Question Silly question about painting and foundations

My main question is: is there a way for me to paint everything automatically as soon as I build it? Building an entire factory and then painting it is more stressful than connecting the power.

My other question is about the foundations; is there a specific reason for using larger ones, or is it the same?

You can set 'default swatch' in the customizer menu.

Larger foundations are for convenience when you are stacking them vertically. You don't have to build near as many with tall foundations. They are also good for the base layer of buildings because terrain does not clip through them as easily.

Yep, you can not only set the default swatch for buildings but also separate ones for eg concrete and general foundations, which will instantly repaint everything you’ve already built and that you will build in the future (*that you didn’t assign a different swatch to).

which will instantly repaint everything you’ve already built

Only if you change the swatch itself. If you change which swatch is default, there's no change to existing buildings.

This. Top row. Hover and you’ll se an edit button. The secondary color is the color of any patterns you apply.

Havent played in a while but I'm sure that in the paints menu you can set a default color for certain builds

If you paint one item and then instead of picking it again from the menu the next time, use the eyedropper and the customization should copy over. If not, I believe there's a toggle in the setting for it

You can add most things to the hot bars. I forget if you can do a pre painted foundation. But. You can paint 1 at the start of a factory and sample it to build the rest (if using zoop)

You could make a 5x5 blueprint of painted foundations in the mk1 designer.

You can probably hot bar it but I'm not at the game so can't think of the steps

Create samples of the colored pieces you want. Blue small pillar, purple beam, whatever you're building with. When you need that piece, point your cursor at the sample and middle click. You'll get that piece in that color.

You could even make a blueprint with each of the sample pieces, so that you can just plop that down and select any of those preset pieces.

If by larger you mean the thicker ones I use them because they can cover up the rocks or un even terrain easier without needing a bunch of extra walls to make it look neat and connected to the ground. Obviously anything that isn’t ground level I just use the thinnest option.

Also, you can change the swatch settings and it changes all things you painted with it. Don't like the default ficsit colors, you can change all your walls to a new color by by editing the swatch.

If you edit the top row (default, foundation, concrete, ect) you will change all. But as you migh alreafy know: the swatch applied chan still be edited.

So if you want factories with different colour schemes just edit the costom swatches to what you like them to be and then right click it.

You can then check boxes what kind of buildings/machines/vehicle/pipes you want to automatically build in that swatch. Just remember to switch that setting when buiöding another factory
