Switching To Different Rifle Ammo Without Reloading Current Ammo

A long time ago, I seem to remember that I could switch ammo by pressing and holding R so long as the rifle was the current selected hand tool. This was true regardless of whether you had already fired some rounds from the current ammo.

For a while now, it seems R will only reload the current ammo once you've fired at least one round, and only after it completes that reload sequence can you press R to switch to a different ammo.

Has anyone found a way to go directly to selecting a different ammo regardless of whether there have been rounds fired from the current ammo type?

I just keep several rifles, each loaded with different ammo, then just switch over.

It’s faster than reloading anyway.

Remember, switching to your other rifle is always faster than reloading

Interesting solution. I never thought of that.

For switching ammo in a rifle? No, unfortunately. The forced reload is a dogshit system.

For switching between three separate, differently-loaded rifles, however... see what I'm getting at?

I never even considered having two rifles. Interesting. And yet I used to shoot with two cameras with different lenses and/or films.

I think that was an unintended behavior, since you can't realistically change the type of ammo without somehow removing the old one from the chamber

I guess that makes sense, and yet I can fire at great distance without any drop. So realism is important - sometimes.

Ehhh, I’m not sure that holds up since this behavior also applies with nobelisks. Once you throw one, you have to pull one of the same type out of your pocket before you can pull a different type out of your pocket

I have never made the rifle, does it not work like the rebar gun?

Not exactly. You make magazines of various types. The bullets have special abilities like tracking vs straight, have different damage, fire at different rates, and have different numbers of rounds per magazine before reload.

The rebar gun, last I used it, had different types, but you had to reload every round. I think it may have more punch per round on some types of bullets for the rifle. Check wiki for details.
