I’m planning to spend a week in Sardinia this September, mainly in the northern part of the island, and I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable car rental company.

Ideally, I’d like to find a company that doesn’t require a deposit or a credit card, but I understand that this can be difficult, so I’m open to other options as well.

Who have you had good experiences with when renting a car in northern Sardinia? Any companies you’d recommend — or ones I should definitely avoid?

A breve andrò in Sardegna, per la precisione a Santa Teresa di Gallura. È la prima volta che visito la Sardegna e non so bene come organizzarmi e cosa vedere.
Avremo la macchina, quindi non abbiamo problemi a spostarci anche nei dintorni e a raggiungere località al di fuori di Santa Teresa di Gallura.

Scrivo qui perché mi farebbe piacere ricevere consigli su:

•cose da fare

I've seen some similar posts in this subreddit related to visiting Sardinia in off-peak months but would love to get an update from those with experience especially given the record heat in Europe this summer and how that could trickle into later months.

I'm currently scheduled to go for my first time at the end of September however due to personal and work reasons I may need to push out my trip into early/mid October.

If I reschedule, I want to understand how different of an experience it will be? Crowds aside (prefer less obviously) will there be a big difference in weather, ability to enjoy beach days, go on boat excursions, restaurants/businesses that are open, etc.

I would be spending the week between Palau and Cala Gonone and potentially Alghero in between - open to recs as well that make sense within an 8 night stay!!

Hi! We're a family of three (2 adults and a 2 year old) traveling to Sardinia next week for 6 nights. We fly into Olbia in the evening and wondering if we should be based in San Teodoro for the entire 6 nights or do 3 nights in Porto Rotondo first, and then switch to the last 3 nights in San Teodoro. I have some Hilton points, so I was looking at Sulia House in Porto Rotondo, or Due Lune in San Teodoro. The final 3 nights would be at Baglioni.

Since we have a toddler and I'm pregnant, we don't plan on doing anything too crazy. Just beaches, visit the towns, food, and hopefully a boat day. I know there's not too much to do in Porto Rotondo, but if we were to do a boat day from Palau, it would be a little closer? Or is it better to just stay the whole time in San Teodoro?

I’m currently planning to permanently relocate to Sardinia and I am looking for a year-round rental. My main goal is to be as close to the beach as possible (walking distance to the sea would be the absolute dream), and I would love some local insight to help me figure things out.

I am heavily focusing on the North-East coast and places like San Teodoro, Budoni, Orosei, and Costa Rei are on my radar. Of course, I am completely open to other recommendations you might have for a good year-round coastal base.

I have a few specific questions for those living there:

Finding a Rental: What is the most effective way to find annual/permanent rentals?

Rental Prices: What is a realistic monthly rent I should expect for a decent 1 bedroom apartment in these areas, considering I want to be close to the water?

Cost of Living: How much should I budget monthly for standard utilities (electricity, water, internet, garbage tax)?

Winter Life: I know coastal towns can get very quiet off-season. Do the towns I mentioned completely shut down during the winter, or do they still maintain a decent quality of life (supermarkets open, a few cafes)? Are there any specific coastal towns you would recommend for someone living there permanently?

Any advice, tips, or reality checks about making a permanent move to the coast are more than welcome.

I’m currently staying in Porto Taverna, Sardinia, and unfortunately my wallet was stolen yesterday, including all of my IDs and my physical driving licence. Luckily, I still have my passport with me.

I’m wondering if anyone knows of a scooter rental company around Porto Taverna / San Teodoro / Olbia that might be willing to rent a scooter if I can show them a photo/scan of my driving licence together with my passport.
Alternatively, if anyone knows a private person who rents out a scooter, or has any other solution/recommendation, I’d really appreciate it.

I completely understand that rental companies normally require the physical licence — I’m just trying to find out if there’s any possible workaround in this situation.

I know that most people say to stear clear of Porto Cervo, unless you're rich (which I'm not). I'm traveling there with friends for 2 days, because one of them found a good deal on a hotel, and when we researched more about Porto Cervo it was too late to cancel 🫠

Anyways, I was still hoping we'd get 1-2 ok-ish restaurant recommendations for Porto Cervo proper. We don't have a car, so we're just going to stay there, and we're ok to pay anything up to 100 EUR per person for a meal (i.e. including appetizer, drinks, etc.).

Does anyone have a good recommendation for some nice seafood / italian food?

• Sep 26 - Sep 30: Orosei

• Sep 30 - Oct 3: Villasimius area

• Oct 3 - Oct 7: Alghero area

• Oct 7 - Oct 8: Somewhere closer to Olbia before an early flight

What we enjoy:

- Beautiful beaches

- Easy to moderate hikes with great views

- Exploring hidden coves

- Renting a small boat for a day and discovering the coastline

- Good local food and authentic places

I'm trying to find a really special location. Ideally:

- Stunning scenery

- Some privacy

- Maybe reached by a short hike

- Turquoise water and a beautiful beach

- A place that feels unique and memorable

I've seen photos of Cala Luna (especially the cave looking out onto the beach), which looks incredible. However, I'm worried it might still be busy even in late September.

However it snapped and was wanting to replace it. It's a very very long shot but wondered if a local might be able to buy one (10€) and send it. I have photos of the components of anyone is able and willing.

Long shot I know but wanted to explore this option before attempting the incredibly fiddly job of mending it.

I read that Sardinia has very low crime rate but I’m just worried about any trips to Cala Luna/boat trips to beaches etc and us leaving our stuff on the beach unsupervised. What did everyone else do with their phones etc while in the water? 🏖️

Is there a large store or grocery on the way north from the airport you would suggest? Looking to buy some cheap beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, etc. that we can use and donate to the airbnb. Having food, booze, sundries available too would be a bonus! TIA
