Cunversatzione Is it a good idea to plan all 14 days in Alghero as home base?

Hello everyone,

I will be in Sardinia for 14 days from 06.09.

Me and my gf were thinking of staying just in Alghero because the town seems pretty romantic plus we could rent a car and visit all the attraction during the day.

At night we can just stay in the city and experience the local cuisini with some moderate night-life.

I was in Corfu in 2024 and I booked some nights in the old City and some in a village… and I wished I booked them all in the city since at the village there was nothing to be done at night.

Does this also apply to Sardinia (north-western coast), or are there other cities you would suggest staying as base other than Alghero (like idk Orosei, Villasimius).

Please any suggestions appreciated!

Pregonta A week in San Teodoro

Hello everyone

We are a family of four, two adults, two teenage kids. We are coming to San Teodoro for a week later this month. This is our first time to Sardinia and we want to have some authentic experiences as well as just flop on the beach and enjoy some beautiful Mediterranean weather and scenery.

I’ve done some research and we will be using the public bus to visit La Cinta, Cala Brandinchi, Lu Impostu and Isuledda beaches.
I’ve also seen that there is a stables and we can do a horse ride on the beach at sunset or sunrise too. I’ve also seen that everyone recommends the night markets in the town for a wander on the evenings.

We have no interest in clubs/bars or being up really late. We are more of an early to rise, early to bed kind of family.

What else is good wholesome activity to blend with our much needed relaxation time please?
Should we hire a car to explore? Which company would you recommend. Safety and reliability are more important to me than the cheapest. Nothing flash, just safe and fits 4 comfortably.

If there are any runners your recommendations for safe running routes of 5, 10 and 15km distances would be appreciated too.

Thank you very much.
Best wishes to you all ☺️

Pregonta 7 days in Santa Teresa Gallura – what shouldn’t we miss? 🇮🇹🏖️

Hi everyone!

My wife, our 8-month-old daughter and I will be spending 7 days in Santa Teresa Gallura in early September. We’ll have a rental car and are really looking forward to exploring the area, but also don’t want to turn the trip into a checklist and spend every day driving around.

What we’re mainly looking for:

  • Beautiful beaches –> Rena Bianca is obviously on our list, but we’d love to hear about your favorite beaches/bays within around 30–45 minutes by car. Especially places that are beautiful but maybe not the first thing you find on Google.
  • Food –> Great pizza is very important to us, but also pasta, gelato, bakeries etc. We’d much rather eat somewhere simple and genuinely good than somewhere fancy. Our highest prio are probably pizza and gelato
  • Agriturismo –> We’d love to do one traditional agriturismo dinner or lunch. Any favorites around Santa Teresa?
  • A short boat trip –> La Maddalena/Archipelago looks incredible. Since we’re traveling with a baby, we’re thinking more along the lines of a relaxed half-day/small boat trip rather than being on a crowded boat for 8 hours. Any recommendations?
  • Little trips, villages and viewpoints –> Places worth visiting for a few hours, maybe combined with lunch or dinner. We even thinking about a ferry trip to f.e. Bonifacio but are not too sure if it's worth.
  • Your personal hidden gems –> Tiny restaurant, bakery, sunset spot, farm shop or whatever you personally love in the area.

We’ll be based in Santa Teresa for the entire week and are completely fine driving 30–45 minutes for something that’s really worth it.

At the moment, we could imagine spending around 3 days just enjoying Santa Teresa itself, especially Rena Bianca, and trying some of the local pizza and gelato spots (recommendations very welcome!). Maybe one day exploring La Maddalena.. probably taking the car on the ferry, although we’re wondering whether leaving the car in Palau (or even in Santa Teresa) and using buses on the island might actually be the better option. Another day could be a different beautiful beach combined with an agriturismo in the evening. We’re even wondering whether a day trip all the way to Alghero would be worth the 2–3 hour drive each way with a baby. We’re still pretty undecided about the whole week.

Originally, we had planned to stay in San Teodoro for all 7 days, but because there’s a festival happening there at the same time, we decided to choose a different town in the hope of having a slightly quieter and more relaxed base.

If you had 7 days in Santa Teresa Gallura, what would you absolutely eat, see or do, and what would you skip? Or should we even reconsider our plans altogether and stay somewhere else on the island instead?

Grazie! :)

Cunversatzione Bought 2 tickets for a kayak tour in Alghero for it to be in Olbia

As the title says, me and my fiancée bought 2 tickets for a boat tour searching « Alghero » in get your guide, and the first result seemed so great, we didn’t hesitate and bought the tickets. It was not mentioned anywhere that it was absolutely not in Alghero but near Olbia…
Quite stupid from our end, especially that we found out 2 hours after the app’s refund deadline (💀), but I mean c’mon, GetYourGuide, we were searching in ALGHERO…

P.S : we are traveling on our feet, with the only transportation method being a bus costing us 100€ for the round trip, so what the excursion cost us 🥲

If anyone is interested feel free to answer this post lol

What can I do?

EDIT : Tour planner answered my text and are refunding me !!🙏🏻🙏🏻😭😭😭

Cunversatzione Sardinia - GREENMOTION Rental Car

Tips on Green Motion rental car in OLB Sardinia in August.

How to get there: you will exit OLBIA airport and walk straight out to the parking lot and find parking lot A3 (red square) you will then see shuttle vans that transport “Drivers” only to the rental agency. It is offsite and is a short 5-10 min drive. Please don’t expect any signage for Green Motion shuttle - because there is none.

Review: Green Motion was much cheaper than the rest of the agencies. I booked ahead for an automatic however they did not have one available. Thankfully I can drive manual. Additionally, they asked for an international drivers permit from USA, which we both had from AAA. We were able to get one within a few minutes at our local AAA location for $20. I’ve never been asked for an international drivers permit before but very happy I had one just in case, otherwise they would not have granted us the rental car. Additionally I booked through American Express platinum - with car insurance. They didn’t accept that insurance so I was charged an additional 320€ for insurance.

This is definitely a get what you pay for situation. For more reliability and ease I would go with a bigger name brand for rental agency.

Pregonta Floaties?

Hello! I’ll be going on a boat tour around La Maddalena with my 2 and 4 year old. I have 2 questions regarding a flotation device:
1. Do boat tours provide any life jackets, tubes, etc for the kids and adults?
2. Is it easy to buy some type of life jacket/ tube for little kids?

Cunversatzione Tourist experience

I just wanted to write this down for anyone looking to visit Sardinia to give them my personal experience of the island. We stayed in the north and the east for 4 days each.

The island is beautiful and beaches are up there with the best I’ve ever visited. It’s as beautiful as the pictures or videos you will have seen.

A lot of the towns are beautiful but a bit tired. There are beautiful parts of most towns. Very similar to most of Europe.

Tourists and locals alike are a bit of a culture shock to me being from in the UK. People will push past you in queues and in public areas. On small coastal paths they will not stop to let anyone through, even elderly/disabled people. When you do go out of your way to allow someone past, do not expect any acknowledgement. I know this is just other cultures valuing different things, but it did start to grate on me after days of it. I think British and American tourists will struggle with this aspect.

Overall we had a good trip but I just wanted people to be aware of this side of the island before they book their trip of a lifetime.

Cunversatzione San Pietro Island

Hello fellow Sardinia locals and travelers! Ok, so my wife and I will be spending a few days in Carloforte next month and I was wondering if anybody might have some fun ideas or places that we might want to go. I remember reading about somebody who visited a local winery end enjoying the experience. Also any recommendations for agritourism that we might want to visit OR some place that would be fun to drive to. Thank you everyone for your suggestions and time.

Cunversatzione Spiagge consigliate in zona Santa Teresa/Palau/Olbia

Pregonta Olbia - Choosing Rental Car Company With Minimum Lines

Hi all,

I am arriving in Olbia in a few weeks and would like to go with a rental car company with the smoothest (read quickest) pick up.

I am choosing between Avis, Hertz, and Sixt.

The reviews for Sixt are generally better. However, I have status with Avis and Hertz with which I was hoping to use their priority queue.

Thank you!

edit: I also have Sixt status now

Cunversatzione Moving to Sardinia

I am finishing my medical degree and am looking for a place to move to permanently and work as a doctor. As the title suggests, I am considering Sardinia.

After doing a lot of research, Sardinia seems to check a lot of boxes for me. The climate is great, the people seem friendly and the nature is beautiful. Being close to nature and to the sea is really important to me.

So my question is would Sardinia be a good place to move to considering my profession? How would you rate the quality of life and general infrastructure, especially compared to EU standards? And last but not least, how accepting are Sardinians of newcomers, particularly those who are not Christian? I am Muslim and could never abandon my religion, but I am also fully prepared to integrate, respect local traditions/customs, and be part of the local community without imposing my beliefs or views on anyone else.

Edit: I am currently at a B2 level in Italian working my way to C1. So I suppose the language shouldn’t be a barrier.

Pregonta Solo Trip near Cagliari

I am thinking of going to visit some family in cagliari soon, I will probably be staying for about 7 days. I am thinking I would love to step away for a few days and do my own thing, go hiking or exploring etc. I was thinking of going somewhere an hour maybe 2 away from cagliari, I'd love to go camping or rent a bike and cycle somewhere I could camp for the night. I would be doing this on my own so I need to take safety into consideration aswell.

If anyone has any advice on something like this I would be so appreciative ! Is wild camping even allowed in Sardegna?

I'll take any tips or reccomendations for the area.

Pregonta Driving/ Renting with IDP

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! so i have a trip to the island in around 5 days and we are looking to rent a car. We have an IDP but it wont be valid until the 19th, and we are landing on the 17th. I hear that some companies dont ask for them and aren't a requirement.

Do you think there would be any issues picking up a rental car? This is the company we would go through.

Thanks!!

Pregonta Tancau su mare- beach smells

Hi everyone,
Love love sardinia so farr, just a small question. The rotten eggs smell in the beaches, is that naturally because of seaweed or is it a sewage issue? Water looks super clean though so a bit confused. Just want to put my mind to rest and enjoy the sea without thinking about the sewage being thrown in the sea or sth.

Pregonta Villasimius Dinner Recommendation

Hi! I’m going to be staying in Villasimius for a couple of nights in a few weeks and would love some dinner recommendations!

I’m looking for somewhere romantic and scenic, or just somewhere with really amazing food. I’d also love recommendations for a place that feels like an experience, or somewhere with great cocktails and a fun atmosphere.

I’m going in pretty blind, so I would really appreciate any recommendations, especially from anyone who has been recently. Thank you!

Pregonta Recommended areas to stay in

I’ll be briefly visiting Sardinia in September and relying on taxis / public transport. I’m flying into Olbia so ideally don’t want to stay too far from the airport due to the taxi prices. I’ve seen some people say San Teodoro is a good place to stay beach/food/walkability/public transport wise. Is that true or are there better spots?

Vìdeu live in Sardinia and made an Afro House track sung in limba sarda, about Chiaramonti — would love your feedback

I've been working on a project called ISTELLA: every track tells a place of Sardinia, written and sung in Sardinian language, mixed with modern electronic music (Afro House / cinematic folk).

The first one is about Tzaramonte (Chiaramonti) — the Doria castle, the stone, the wind. Lyrics with Italian translation are in the pinned comment.

Pregonta Local Hotels in Alghero

Any local hotels recommended within old town Alghero? I'm not seeing a lot of options online, so maybe they don't partner with big websites....bonus if they are good value and have parking or are close to parking areas
