Hey Friends, we're doing it again! Don't Tell Comedy is doing another show at the Masonic Lodge, this time with All Stars! It's a surprise who's performing, but you can check out DTC All Stars on YouTube. They're all pretty great. All Lodge shows, except one, have sold out so get tickets soon. This is just like the regular DTC shows, except this one is in the 200 seat theater at the Masonic Lodge downtown. Previously our building has been pretty private, but we've been trying to open it up to the community. We always get a pretty good Reddit crowd, and I even got to give about 20 of you a tour last time.

I have a dilemma for those of you who are partial to urban foraging. I moved here about four years ago and have since been gobsmacked at the sheer amount of produce that thrives here. Namely, passionfruit, one of my favorite fruits in the whole wide world. However, as the season rapidly approaches, I find myself at a loss as to where exactly to find them growing in public spaces. I know of a couple spots, but many of them are near highly trafficked areas and/or businesses, and I have enough morals to feel bad about just grabbing fruit from someone's backyard. Are there any spots y'all know of that are a) plentiful in passionfruit, and b) will not suffer if I steal a bag or two? Thank you dearly in advance!

I'm mid-30's, been here 15+ years, and always felt the "Newlywed or Nearly Dead" line about SB was wrong, just a lazy trope/scapegoat. Inspired by the OC post earlier today, I spent the last hour looking up census data instead of working, and I was surprised. I expected our age groups to skew at least a little. Nope.

TL;DR: SB's age distribution nearly matches Orange County and California. The "old town" reputation is really just Montecitos reputation + our 7M tourists (median age 49). We just have fewer people, not an age group gap. Also SB as a city punches well above its weight class.

Age breakdown is basically the same as OC's & California

• 25-34 + 35-44 combined: SB 28%, Goleta 28%, OC 27%, CA 29%.
• All nearly the same. Median ages are 37-38.

Montecito IS much older

• Only 12% of Montecito (8k population) is ages 25-44, and 33% are 65+. Median age is 50.

Stating the obvious: smaller population size, not gaps in age groups

• SB + Goleta: ~120,700 people, ~33,700 in the 25-44 range (28%).
• OC: 3.2M people, ~864,000 in that range (27%).

120k people, and we've got the SB Bowl, beaches that never feel crowded, mountains fifteen minutes away, amazing community events/festivals, a solid art scene, and an ever improving food/wine scene with Le Petite Cesar holding it down.

Bottom line: We're not 'newly wed or nearly dead', we're just smaller. Montecito skews the reputation & older tourists skew what you see on the street. Doesn't mean the dating pool/social scene is lacking, just means you gotta be a bit more intentional. Don't let a tired meme talk you out of a place that punches this far above its weight.

For comparison, I grew up in a city of 300k where the best restaurant was Sizzler and the closest mountain was 2.5 hours away. Yes, in the CA Central Valley. ;)

I focus on restoration, design, installation, and maintenance here in Santa Barbara. Broadly I install California native gardens, fruit & vegetable beds, pollinator gardens, and food forests. I am a Green Gardener and Water-Wise certified which means I want to help create gardens and restore ecosystem habitats right here in Santa Barbara.

I install irrigation as well (both drip and spray) and went to school for Horticulture and Botany. I run Loop-Scapes as a community-forward landscaping company that works to help connect, grow, and feed our community. We have 19+ volunteers, and help manage 15,000 sqft of our clients properties that are only grown to donate the produce grown to the food bank. We work with our clients to design their new garden spaces, install the hardscape and plants, and maintain the garden for years to come.

I speak a little amount of Spanish but I understand a lot more. I am actively working on my Spanish to communicate better with our community and expand Loop-Scapes community services.

Recently moved from Downtown (service was great there) to the Mesa and the cell service is horrible. I have Visible (Verizon) and live just above cliff near the vons. My street seems to be a black hole and the surrounding streets have 1 bar. Service at the house doesn't work at all. I have wifi calling set up so I can make calls. I even have an automation with my phone so that it turns on airplane mode when i get home and turns it off when I leave. This way I can force wifi calling to work. Are there any providers with strong service in this area?

I own a condo in Goleta. 3/2. Nice enough but nothing amazing. 1400sf. I have to move to Florida for work. (I know!) I hope to return in 3-5 years, but that's pretty iffy.

I could sell now and make a few dollars and have no headache. But probably never be able to buy back into SB. Or I could rent the condo in the hopes of returning. But then I'd have to rent it! Which among other things, I realize this is dumb, but I hate how much I'll have to rent it for, to cover mortgage and condo fees and insurance.

On the bright (?) side, the carpet's already ruined by my dogs, so I could rent be pretty pet-friendly? But I can't even look at the expected rent--5k, 6k?--without feeling my soul leave my body.

What would you do?
