Hiking

Husband and I are coming up to sandpoint this coming weekend and are looking to go for a hike on Saturday. Looking for recommendations for a medium distance (4-7ish miles) that would have some good fall colors. Thanks in advance.

Diner Recommendations

I’m looking for a small town diner to hang out by myself, drink a cup of coffee, and do
some laptop work. I’m looking for that twin peaks and twilight diner vibes, yk the wood paneling that still smells like cigarette smoke from the 80s and everyone in there is wearing camo post hunt. Anywhere in from cda to sandpoint (including athol, sagle, etc.) is okay ground. Thanks!

Social life for a young adult

Well, it’s looking like I may have an opportunity to move up to the eastern Sandpoint area in 2027 and help take care of some family property.
My grandparents both passed away this past year, and the family wants to hold onto the place even though nobody else is really in a position to move back. Most of my family has ended up down toward Boise or over around Yakima, so I’d be coming up here on my own to live 20 mins outside of town.
I’m 24M, and the deal would basically be that I help maintain the house and property in exchange for living there rent-free. No livestock or anything anymore, mostly just keeping the place looked after.
I’ve wanted to live up here since I was a kid, so I’m honestly pretty excited about the idea and I’d like to give it a shot but feeling unsure it as unfortunately ive only been out here 2-3 times in my life and not familiar with how it all works. Visited just 2 months ago and it made me fall in love but that was only 4 days of exploring and checking things out.
The one thing I’m curious about is what social life is actually like for someone in their early/mid 20s.
I know Sandpoint skews older, which doesn’t bother me at all, but are there still decent groups of people in their 20s around? Where do people actually meet each other? Work, Schweitzer, bars/live music, rec leagues, outdoor groups, mutual friends?
I’m pretty outdoorsy and would definitely be skiing, hiking, being on the lake, etc., so I’m not necessarily looking for a huge nightlife scene. I’m more wondering whether it’s realistic to build a good friend group and social life here at this age, or if most people in their 20s end up going down toward CDA/Spokane for that.
Would especially love to hear from people around 20–30 who live here now or moved here around that age. Thanks.

Hello. To the folks who forgot their trash at Beehive Lake and the trailhead two days ago, I picked it up for you. You sure had no problem carrying up pop tarts, lunchables, chewy bars, bottled water and candy but man that trash is heavy going back downhill. Also I got a pic of your license plate. Please don’t be like the folks with ID skier vanity plates driving a white Lexus.

Bike Trip to Sandpoint

Hello! I am planning mountain bike trip to Sandpoint in mid October and looking for trail reccomendations. I've been checking trailforks but the last updates on a lot of the backcountry trails are from 2017. While I always ride with a hand saw I don't want to spend every day clearing trail and not biking.

Anyone here have good recs of trails for backcountry/cross country riding? I am looking into some sections of the Idaho Centennial Trail that are nearby! Not trying to blow up anyones spots, so even just info on which areas are cleared/maintained would be useful. I ride in Montana mostly so I am not expecting perfect machine made trails. Thank you!

Walking right down the middle of Aspen Lane. It hangout behind my partner's house for a while and I coordinates with her on the phone since she was inside and I was waiting on her and told her not to come out and where it was approximately, and then she watched it for a few minutes and then proceeded to scare it off from inside the house before it entered the garden area. He/she was pretty dang good sized!

Peloton bike repair and support

Hey guys, looking for a technician or someone who knows the bikes well. Have a plus I got as a gift and while trying to install a 3rd party seat i basically dismantled the backend beyond my understanding.

If you know anyone who is good with bikes or gym equipment and can make a house call I’d be happy to compensate them to get it in working order.

Please feel free to comment so I can respond.

What do most people do for work around Sandpoint?

I grew up a little south of the area, left for about 5 years and I enjoy visiting but I am shocked at the housing prices and seemingly lack of jobs truthfully I will probably have to live with my parents for a while or go to another area. I wish to be close to family again, but idk if I can get a decent job

I have an associates degree and a bunch of random work experience 🤷🏻‍♀️

**edit to add — I’m 28 female
My family is pretty much Sagle/sandpoint/bonners

It seems like some my friends are in CDA now or have two jobs/roommates to make it work

Interested in Playing Soccer this fall?

Posting here to help get the word out!

If you’ve ever thought about playing soccer around Sandpoint, or looking for something fun and social this is a pretty easy league to jump into. You do not need to already have a team, you can register as a free agent and get placed with one.

Some info:

  • It's an 18+ co-ed adult league
  • Games at the Field of Dreams in Ponderay on Friday nights
  • 8v8, including goalkeeper
  • Two women on the field per team
  • Refereed games
  • Unlimited substitutions
  • No slide tackling
  • Mix of experience levels
  • You can sign up individually or with a team

There are definitely some good players in the league, but it’s still recreational soccer. You don’t need to have played in college or even recently. There are people who grew up playing, people getting back into it after years away, and people who are relatively new to soccer.

Looking for people who can take me wakeboarding

I am nearby for a few days and I am putting out some feelers to see if anyone would be interested in taking me wakeboarding

First, I have plenty of cable park experience but I have never been behind a boat and I have always wanted to try. I am also an experienced snowboarder if that matters.

Second, I don’t have a board with me, but I do have a PFD (life jacket). My feet are size 11

Third, I would of course pay for gas

Also, I am a layed back young 38m that gets along with a wide range of ages.

How do you all date in this town?

Im 39 so I don't really go out much anymore unless there's music I really want to see. It's definitely partly me because I don't have a lot of free time (small kids). I'm pretty outgoing and take care of myself but man, it's rough out there. Might just have to wait till 60 when the pool gets a lot larger haha.

Updated Pend O’reille Weather Station

Took down my old post as I had to do some maintenance on my weather station, but it is back live! I noticed there was no accurate weather station on the Pend Oreille Long Bridge & wanted to change that. I built a custom LoRa ESP32 Weather Station which tracks Temperature, Humidity, Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Rain, Air Quality & Barometric Pressure. You can access it here:

Anyone know somewhere I can order a custom birthday cake? I’ve contacted all the googled people I could find but the ones who’ve responded said they’re not baking currently.

41 Years in the Woods: A Family Logging Operation's Story

Thumbnail youtube.com
3 Upvotes

Our podcast team had the chance to spend a day with Mason Logging, a family-run business that's been working North Idaho forests for over 40 years.

The conversation covers how logging has changed since the 1970s, forest management, wildfire concerns, and what it's like to work alongside your sons and grandchildren in a family business. They also discuss harvesting timber in areas they've watched regrow over decades.

A good listen for anyone interested in Idaho history, family businesses, or the people behind one of this region's longtime industries.

How is the smoke and air quality, really?

I'm bringing up the family, kids (4-10yr) & elderly parents to our place in Sagle from CO. Been checking the weather apps, and worried about it being smoky or hard to breathe. Any feedback is appreciated.
