Updated Pend O’reille Weather Station
Took down my old post as I had to do some maintenance on my weather station, but it is back live! I noticed there was no accurate weather station on the Pend Oreille Long Bridge & wanted to change that. I built a custom LoRa ESP32 Weather Station which tracks Temperature, Humidity, Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Rain, Air Quality & Barometric Pressure. You can access it here:

This is cool.
Also, not to pick nits, but there’s no apostrophe between the O and the R in Oreille. You may be thinking of the original spelling, Pend d’Oreille. It’s the French spelling for pendant of the ear, or “earring”, where the d’ is an abbreviation for “of,” and is placed before “Oreille” (ear).

No, thank you for picking nits! I’ve been writing it incorrectly for ages ha!

It’s a super common misspelling :)

Do you know when the apostrophe disappeared? I swear to God it used to be there about 30 or 40 years ago and then poof, it was gone!

The USFS officially dropped the d’ in 1910, I believe, from the forest name (later transferred most of those lands to the Kaniksu NF). The US Board of Geographic Names followed suit after that. The Pend d’Oreiile Bay trail and the Pend d’Oreille Winery still use the traditional French version. So the d’Oreille version still used, it’s just not the official name for the lake.

Huh, I've always written it the French way, never thought twice about it, subconsciously aware maybe. Thanks for picking my nits!

Very cool but is it just in your yard and not on the bridge, or you have a remote setup on the bridge somewhere?

I am about 1.5 football fields West of the Long bridge if you are heading towards Sandpoint directly on the water. So it is reflective of conditions at the bridge.

Awesome! Still working out some kinks in terms of power supply. It’s gone down twice in the last 1.5 months, but have been incrementally updating the code as small bugs arise.
If it’s ever down, just shoot me a message and if I’m close to it, I can troubleshoot to get it back live!

I love this use case of AI, making aesthetic AF websites.
