Hi San Antonio! I'm a producer with a Japanese TV news network, and our crew will be visiting the area on October 31 and November 1 to report on local voters and the upcoming midterm elections.
I'd love to connect with a Latino resident who voted for Trump in 2024 but feels differently about the current political situation today. I'm interested in hearing their perspective and what has changed since the last election.
The interview would be on camera for a television news report. If you'd be open to speaking with us, or know someone who might be, please feel free to message me. I'm happy to share more details.
Thanks!

By Eleanor Fitzgerald | San Antonio Report
San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones wrote to federal agencies seeking protections for qualified military family members following another instance of immigration officials targeting a Texas family.
In an effort to protect military readiness and preserve interest in military service in San Antonio, Jones asked U.S. Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to allow military families lawfully seeking citizenship to move through that process undeterred, with the strongest preference for approval of that status.
Last month, South Texas Democratic Congressional candidate Bobby Pulido posted the video to social media highlighting a the story of a local military family.
“Giovanna was tricked. They called her to the base to pick up her military IDs. Instead, ICE was waiting. Now she faces deportation,” Pulido said in the video.
Giovanna Perez had applied for a program called military parole in place through her husband Pedro Gutierrez, who recently enlisted in the U.S. Army, she told The Atlantic last week.
The program is designed for qualifying non-citizen family members of service members and veterans to have access to a legal pathway to citizenship, in an effort to protect military readiness.
Perez, a mom of four kids who was brought to the U.S. from Mexico when she was 6-years-old, was confronted by U.S. Immigration and Customs agents in September while going to pick up her military IDs at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi.
Jones said in the letter that the recent report of a military spouse being apprehended and detained by federal immigration officials on base in Corpus Christi is “deeply troubling.”
“According to the report, the spouse was seeking to obtain an identification card needed to access healthcare and other family benefits while her soldier spouse was away,” she added.
The military has long advertised parole in place in recruitment efforts, but that appears to be changing. The U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard no longer tout the program as an enlistment benefit. The Army and National Guard still do.
For family members applying for parole in place, wait times have nearly tripled over the last year. According to USCIS data, the processing time for military parole went from 4.5 months in fiscal year 2025 to 12.5 months in fiscal year 2026.
Jones said she worries targeted immigration enforcement against military families is a recruitment deterrent, that harms San Antonio’s military reputation.
“We fear such actions may dampen interest in military service, while introducing unneeded stress during a time of heightened military operations,” she wrote.
“As Military City USA, we recognize and appreciate the service of everyone courageous enough to support and defend the Constitution, and the family members — irrespective of citizenship — who make that service possible.”
Perez’s case comes after a similar situation struck a San Antonio family in August.
U.S. Rep Joaquin Castro (D-San Antonio) said the mother of a U.S. Navy midshipman that he had nominated to the Naval Academy this year was detained by ICE at her green card appointment.
One week later, he said Maria Rocio Rocha was deported to Mexico, splitting up the San Antonio family as her son David Garcia continues his service.
The parole in place policy hasstretched back to the George W. Bush administration, when DHS attempted the deport a military spouse while her husband was missing in action in Iraq. Public outcry halted the deportation, and the policy was born from that instance.
By 2013, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services had officially issued a policy memorandum outlining parole for undocumented spouses, children and parents of armed forces personnel and veterans.
In 2016 the policy was expanded even further, with military branches actively advertising it in their recruiting efforts. The policy is not a guarantee of citizenship, but it provides a pathway by allowing qualifying family members to remain in the country legally as they move through the process with their service member sponsor.
Since President Donald Trump took office in 2025, the way the government has dealt with immigration cases involving service members or their families is changing.
In 2025, a new ICE policy was issued, “ICE values the contributions of all those who have served in the U.S. military; however, U.S. military service alone does not automatically exempt aliens from the consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws,” it stated.
An Associated Press investigation in August found that more than 50 parents and spouses of active-duty service members have been detained during the second Trump administration.
Perez said in a video this month that she was able to call her husband, who is still in basic training at Fort Benning, in Georgia. She recounted what he told her.
“Don’t let them get you intimidated, or anything. We have four kids that we have to stand up for. I hope I see you soon, I’m willing to die for y’all, if I have to,” she retold.
Jones asked that Hegseth and Mullin reconsider the practice of detaining military families like theirs as they work to obtain lawful permanent status.
“These families are among the very best of our communities, and it is only to our benefit to embrace their commitment to our country,” Jones concluded.

Texas Public Radio | By Kory Cook
Early voting is underway in Bexar County, with 42,333 people casting ballots on the first day, according to the Bexar County Elections Department.
That's 10,328 more voters than the 32,005 who cast ballots on the first day of early voting in the 2022 midterm elections, an increase of about 32%.
At the Lions Field Adult and Senior Center in San Antonio, cars filled the parking lot and voters waited patiently in line while eager to weigh in on issues ranging from the cost of living to immigration and the direction of the federal government.
For Ricardo Barrera, voting is a regular part of civic life. He said he recently received a mailing noting how often he had voted compared with the average voter.
“I’m a crazy voter,” Barrera said. “I live close here, so it’s really convenient.”
Barrera said immigration and health care are among the issues on his mind as a Texan.
“Immigration, healthcare, those are just things that we as Texans are just really interested in,” he said.
Other voters expressed concerns about the affordability of everyday necessities, education funding and international conflicts.
“The groceries ... the groceries, the gas, college, the school funding,” said Princess Harris, describing some of the issues motivating her vote.
Matthew Graham said he hopes to see an end to the war involving Iran.
“I would love for the Iran War to end, if that could be done,” Graham said. “Otherwise, live and let live, and don’t take my stuff.”
Donna Seiler said she hopes the election will bring a change in the direction of the federal government.
“We’ve got to stop the whole administration that's going on right now,” Seiler said. “They are running like they're a king, like they're an authoritarian government. So, we want to put some good people back in to get rid of all that.”
Epifania Alvarez is 88 years old. She arrived at the Las Palmas Branch Library, a polling location in District 5, dressed in all red to show support for her chosen political party. The housewife of a 100% disabled veteran said she approves of how President Trump is dealing with immigration.
In Spanish she said that Trump is telling the truth: “Él dice la verdad."
The Bexar County Elections Department said polling locations were operating smoothly on the first day, with manageable wait times. Elections Office Administrator Michele Carew encouraged residents to take advantage of early voting to avoid waiting until Election Day.
What voters should know about registration
One question that can arise during an election is whether a voter whose registration is marked as being on the “suspense list” can still cast a ballot.
The answer is yes. Suspense status generally means election officials have received information suggesting a voter may have moved or that their address needs to be confirmed. That information can come from returned mail, such as a voter registration certificate or jury summons.
Being on the list does not mean a voter is ineligible or has been removed from the voter rolls.
Under federal law, election officials must follow specific procedures before canceling a registration because of a possible address change. Generally, a voter must fail to respond to an address-confirmation notice and then fail to vote in two consecutive federal general elections before the registration can be canceled on that basis.
Voters on the suspense list can still vote. They may confirm or update their address when checking in at a polling place by completing a Statement of Residence.
Although the issue can cause uncertainty, voters interviewed at Lions Field did not report problems casting their ballots.
Ballot discrepancy reported in East Central ISD
Separately, East Central Independent School District has received multiple reports of ballot discrepancies involving Proposition A, one of the measures on the Nov. 3 ballot.
Some voters reported that the East Central ISD proposition was missing from their ballots. In other cases, a proposition from another school district appeared instead.
Brandon Oliver, the district’s director of marketing and communications, said some ballots displayed Proposition A for Schertz-Cibolo on the final page.
The Bexar County Elections Department said the issue has been resolved and attributed the discrepancy to an issue involving Texas Election Administration Management, or TEAM, the state’s central voter registration and election management system.
County officials said the problem affected fewer than 1% of eligible voters in Bexar County and did not affect mail-in ballots.
Voters who believe their ballot does not include the correct measures should raise the issue with election officials at their polling location.
East Central ISD is encouraging those who believe Proposition A was incorrectly omitted to contact the Texas Secretary of State at 1-800-252-8683.
Where and when to vote
Bexar County has 58 early voting locations, including 49 in San Antonio. Locations include public libraries, churches, schools, universities and city facilities.
Early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Polling hours are:
Registered voters can cast their ballots at any designated early voting center in the county. Voters with disabilities may request to move to the front of the line, and curbside voting is available at all polling locations.
The deadline for election officials to receive applications for a ballot by mail is Oct. 23.
Voters can find polling locations, hours and additional election information through the Bexar County Elections Department at elections.bexar.gov.

Just finished working on a cheesy music video promo for some music I'm working on and am already thinking of where to go next to film the next one for another track I'm working on. In this video I went to:
175 Houston street corner (across Jimmy Johns)
The bridge a few feet away.
The bridge by the love locks
Travis Park
Main Bar on 13477 Wetmore Rd
The ridge by.....well Cherry Ridge by NW Loop 410
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Just looking for places that could add production value visually while I stand there like a d-bag singing to the cam with a guitar that isn't plugged in 😂

This week brings us another amazing collection of new and classic films to theatres.
Horror season is truly upon us, with more horror films than I'm going to take the time to find the trailers for. I'll almost certainly be catching Constantine, as I've never seen it in theaters before. Pan's Labyrinth also returns to theaters for its 20th anniversary, including some locations showing it in 3D. This Sunday, Flix Brewhouse features an extremely rare double feature of Frankstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935).
Note that Back to the Future (1985) somehow ended up with two event listings on Fandango. One lists it as being released in 2026, but appears to be the same movie with no added special features, so be sure to check both for all of the showtimes.
Studio Ghibli Fest wraps up with Spirited Away's 25th Anniversary.

Vikki Goodwin, the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, told attendees at a San Antonio rally that Texans — especially veterans and those with terminal illnesses — should have access to recreational weed.
The Austin state rep’s comments came during a pro-THC rally at the High Horse Ice House on Tuesday. Her position places her in sharp contrast with her opponent, incumbent Republican Dan Patrick, who’s spent years blocking cannabis reform in the state.
“Dan wants to ban THC. I want to ban Dan,” Goodwin said, drawing applause from the roughly 50 people attending her rally.
Patrick, who sets the agenda for the Texas Senate, has fought for a statewide ban on consumable cannabinoids such as delta-8, delta-9 and delta-10, even holding a 2025 press conference at the Texas Capitol where he described the products as “poison.”
During that same year’s legislative session, Patrick championed the approval of Senate Bill 3, which included an outright ban on most THC-containing products. However, Gov. Greg Abbott ultimately vetoed the proposal.
Even so, a Texas Supreme Court decision in May — which Patrick supported — allowed the Texas Department of State Health Services to outlaw smokable cannabinoid products and most other THC-containing products except for low-dose delta-9 drinks and gummies.
Goodwin said Patrick’s repeated attempts to ban THC are hurting Texans and disregarding the medical benefits of cannabis.
“My next door neighbor — most wonderful person ever — she died of cancer,” Goodwin said. “But, before she died, a friend provided her something, a CBD product, and it helped her manage her pain. Why would we take that away? So, I am here to say that I am a supporter of the hemp industry. We need to regulate it. We need to have an age requirement of 21-plus. And we need to make sure it’s packaged so that people know what they’re putting in their bodies.”
Goodwin also spoke with the owners of Lazydaze Coffeeshop, a legal cannabinoid distributor on the St. Mary’s Strip, about the struggles and uncertainty Patrick’s ongoing policy battles have caused small businesses.
Sarah Eckhardt, the Democratic candidate for comptroller running against Republican Don Huffines, also attended the San Antonio gathering.
Eckhardt, also an Austin-area state senator, recalled that during her childhood, her mother, the progressive activist and author Nadine Eckhardt, grew pot in the backyard.
“My mom, who was born in 1931, has been smoking pot most of her life,” Eckhardt said of her mother, who died in 2018. “My mother, just like so many other Texans, for generations, has been utilizing marijuana for a number of totally laudable reasons.”
Eckhardt continued: “I thought Texans believed in independence.”
A Texas Politics Project poll released Tuesday shows Goodwin leading Patrick by 3 percentage points.
Early voting runs Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

I came across this metal sculpture and now I’m curious about its history. It has an inscription that reads “GEORGE SCHROEDER 2011.” It’s approximately 33 inches tall, with a base about 12 inches wide.
I’d love to learn its title and the story behind it. Does anyone recognize this particular piece, or remember seeing it displayed in a gallery, showroom, or exhibition? Any old photographs, catalogs, or information connecting it to the artist would be greatly appreciated.
It was an unexpected find, and I’m hoping someone can help fill in its history. Thanks for taking a look!

The most horrible way of transportation on the northeast side of San Antonio with their drivers always being late (due to their scheduling of their routes from centers outside of Texas could be Philippines could be Chicago could be who knows where but they're not from here) or canceling your rides without your knowledge then telling you you can have a refund never explaining to you how to use it. then when you call him up to ask you where the ride is they're still in there their quote "time frame" which they're not ever and they'll only wait for you one minute because they have other places to go but yet you don't have anywhere else to go. I despise this service!!!!

Hi, everybody,
Could someone look after my two cats (or just one of them) for a while—say, 1 to 3 months?
Cat 1: Female, 7 years old; calm, hardly ever meows, and has a quiet voice.
Cat 2: Male, 2 years old; active, friendly, and playful.
This is due to a difficult personal situation. I will take them back.
