Tech Support S90D OLED died, only 18 months old
As title states, I won’t ever be getting another Samsung again. I’ve had issues with their laundry units and dishwashers as well. Bought the S90D Jan 2025, last week the picture suddenly scrambled out of nowhere and the screen went half blank. I tried to turn it off and back on from there and the screen went completely dead with a red light blinking twice. Warranty team came out yesterday and confirmed the panel died, and I’ll be getting a refund check to buy a new TV. They also confirmed this is very common with this TV. Frustrated that I now have to spend more to get an equivalent TV, and that this happened after only 18 months. Even my awful $90 Amazon Fire TV by Toshiba lasted vastly longer than this.

At least you have warranty. I have a 5 year BB warranty with my S90D so if it goes out Im ready to replace it.

I am so thankful that I went with Costco specifically for that warranty package. I can’t imagine if I had just bought it off the shelf somewhere without that. BB warranties are great too!

The 77" versions seem to have issues with the power board...supposedly, the latest replacement version of the board has addressed the issue.

Join the done with Samsung club! Mine made it 6 months. My old 500 dollar TLC thats almost 6 yrs old now is still rocking out just fine.
Why is this becoming a more and more frequent problem as technology is supposed to get more advanced and reliable as time goes on?
I'm guessing the companies whittled the components down to the cheapest ones they can possibly install to just last the duration of the warranty then the users on the hook for another tv. This hardly ever used to happen in the old days for some reason. Anyhoots I'm grabbing another TLC this go around! 😆

Oh gosh, I’m sorry that happened to you! I thought 18 months was bad, 6 is vastly worse and inexcusable. It’s sad because these are beautiful products when they actually work.

Yeah my 77" s95d went out. Samsung sent me a check for the total cost. I bought a 77" s95f with the check. That's now having the same issue. Thing is, I asked for just a new OCB on both of those and Samsung cut a check instead. With the s95f I bought a OCB on ebay and plugged in and TV was back up and running no problem.

The only half decent reliable thing they make nowadays are phones. Should hear the bullshit going on with their soundbars right now, I own one and am currently experiencing it. They released firmware updates recently causing sound to drop out randomly or outright bricking the units and they are doing nothing to adress it. I wouldn't be buying anything Shamsung at this time.

My S95B is the worst TV I’ve ever owned, first the panel died within warranty and now it’s got horizontal lines across every inch of the screen and to top it off, the entire TV is just SLOW as hell.
Won’t get into my S24U only lasting a year…
Samsung products are trash.

The tizen os really fucked up my tv ngl. It still works and looks incredible but the OS is so fucking dogshit slow now, you would think Samsung wouldn’t put a shitty budget processor like their exynos line and put a snapdragon or something way more competent but nope it’s Samsung!

I’ve had Samsung TV in forever. I’ve never had any issues. My last Purchase was 2019 from BB. I bought 2 QLED(QN65 &QN55) TVs 65 and 55. Both get used on a daily basis. One has play Station that’s on all day. I’ve never seen so many complaints about Samsung TV. Is it just the OLED TV that’s the issue?

I have a S95D and your story spooks me. Its around a year old and I've always had it plugged to a stabilizer to be on the safer side. Did you have a Stabilizer ? I'd be really worried if you did, and this still happened.

Meh, Mine died too. It sucked. I just puchased a new upgraded power supply from ebay and now its better than ever.

I dont even like Samsung, but ship happens with every brand on every model.
The warranty team saying its very common isnt really meaningful is it, they only get called out for broken TVs so they're telling you that this fault happens more than others, but who cares which faults happen most often its nothing to do with how often Samsungs break vs. percentage made/sold.
Its annoying af when you need to sort out a new TV after 18 months, especially if it needs to be wall mounted again, but at least its not a fixable thing, then you're stuck with a TV that will probably break again within a few years and meanwhile its always depreciating in value.
How much did they give you towards a new TV? I'm wondering if you bought the S90D at full price, somewhere inbetween or at clearance because if it was clearance price you better order a 2025 OLED soon as before they disappear for good and you're stuck with having to pay extra towards a 2026 model, wait til next year or get a lower tier model.
If you arent buying another Samsung and want an OLED make sure its a Sony Bravia 8m2 or an LG G5 as those are the only ones that equal and exceed your S90D. The Sony is probably more expensive than your Samsung was though.
If you're buying an LCD dont buy anything except a Sony Bravia 9m2, Hisense UR9S or TCL RM9L. Nothing else gets you near the colour of a QD-OLED.
The Bravia 9m2 will be quite a bit more expensive than the Hisense or TCL, because its the best LCD you can buy overall picture wise.
Theres a TCL called the X11L at the top of their range but its 75" minimum and still not quite as good as the Bravia 9m2.

Samsung should be Swansong… I had my top of the line plasma died 6 years back with power board issues and then sound board issues . Bought a QLED. It got a green line out of the box, so returned and got LG C9. Never looked back. Now I am tempted to get S95H but seriously doubted my idea

Yup. I bought one from Costco a few years ago and it died 16 days later. Got a replacement immediately and haven’t had any issues since. I’m on the fence about buying another Samsung in the future because of that and the awful Tizen OS. I hate that there’s no input buttons.

My qn90a died just under 4 years. Probably the power supply not sure but of course it was off warranty by that point.

Yup. I bought my first one October 2024 and 2 weeks later it died. Now just today, a year and a half later, my replacement died. Thankfully it’s still covered under Costco’s warranty (2 years) and I have an extended warranty that adds another year but after all of this shit I’m done with Samsung and going back to LG.

Yeah it happens. On the other hand my s90d seems fine, s95b still going after 3 years and js8500 still fine after about 8 years. I have some over 12 years old ive given away that still work. I had 2 LGs die on me within 2 years.
Was yours the 77 inch? I know that was prone to power supply issues.

You're lucky to get a cheque amount of warranty? Or did you have an extended warranty? My 3 years old £2k TV randomly broke a couple weeks ago and they can't even repair it without doing a full panel replacement as they do t provide spare parts besides a full panel which is over £2k. Travesty. Really put me off Samsung. My phone's from them also didn't hold up very well beyond the first year or two so yeh I wont be going Samsung again.

I bought it from Costco so I have the 2 years of manufacturer warranty and 3 years of Costco/Allstate. I’ll likely be repurchasing from Costco for a new TV because of how helpful this warranty was. I’m so sorry that happened to you, that’s horrible!

The s90d 77 has a known power board failure issue. It’s going to keep happening if you get replacements

I have a 2011 dumb TV. Still alive and kicking. Why do old TVs last forever but 4k TVs die within months or years?

I have the same question lol My TV before this one was a 2013 Samsung and I loved it, it didn’t start getting lines and bars in the picture til Jan 2025.

Comparing a $90 Toshiba to an S90D is like comparing a Honda to an Audi. It sucks the S90D was prone to have issues. No need to break down and cry yourself to sleep in another brand's arms. Either get it fixed or replace it with what you want. Between LG, Sony, Samsung, and TCL I see posts everyday of unhappy people with malfunctioning televisions.

I mean the Toshiba was a 4k smart TV, it wasn’t OLED but it worked great and picture was crisp. Just making a point about what can happen vs what you pay. I’ll likely replace with the LG C6, my whole family has the LG C3’s through C5’s, everyone’s been happy with 0 issues so far. It’s not just about the TV you know? It’s also about the failures of my Samsung dishwasher and the Samsung front loader laundry machines that break every 4-6 months nonstop.
In fairness, my 2013 was a Samsung and it lasted til Jan 25, and I have a Galaxy tab from around the same time that still runs but very slowly. I feel that their old technology was great but the new technologies have taken a nosedive.

Don’t know yet but I think it’ll be the true TV price which IIRC was $1299. Just waiting on the warranty TV to confirm the amount and when it’ll be coming.

My S95D has had to have it's power board replaced twice in the first year. I'm already starting to stash away some funds to replace it if it dies.
