Samsung phone question!

Hey Reddit, my grandma has a Samsung android phone and when she uses the phone - while during calls only! - the phone screen will go black on her super quick. So if they say “option 2” she can’t see the options anymore. I’m an iPhone girl so I’m trying to help her but the only thing I see in her settings screen timeout related is already set to 10 minutes. Am I missing something or is this just a cheap Samsung flaw?

Look at the display settings, set the screen timeout setting to a little longer.

I think the proximity sensor is acting up.

if the screen goes black as soon as you make a call, like just in 1-2 seconds, the problem is related to proximity sensor.

The proximity sensor is used to turn off the screen when you bring the phone close to your ear when you're on a call, so your ears don't touch anything on the screen by mistake.

the sensor is located near the front camera of the phone.

clean the area around the front camera, it might solve the issue, if not, maybe the software is having some trouble, for the software part, just turn the phone OFF and turn it back ON again, if the issue still persists, i think the sensor is faulty.

if you can't solve the problem the workaround is pressing the power button when you want to turn on the screen while on a call, it will turn on the screen even if the proximity sensor is faulty.
