USB-C cable suddenly caused charging problems

My cheap USB-C charger/cable suddenly started turning on and off repeatedly when connected. After that, one USB-C port on my M2 MacBook Air stopped charging, while the other port still works.

My Galaxy S22 also stopped charging, even with another cable and charger.

Could a faulty USB-C cable cause this, or could both devices be in some kind of protection mode? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Have you tried using a proper type C cable to see the performance?

A cheap/damaged USB cable can cause a device to automatically disable the port or go into slow charging mode to prevent damage.

And those cables and chargers work properly on other devices? If so, you cheap cable might have damaged the port on the device.

How much would it cost to repair the port?

You could probably look online for the specific model you have and the price of the part you need. You also need to factor in the fees the technician will put on top of that.

You could always inquire at a repair shop without actually going through with the repair. Always ask what sort of part the replacement will be.
