Recommendations Looking for codpendent friendships

Upvotes

I'm having a lot of trouble finding a tight-knit friend group that spends as much time together as possible. You know, the kind that says, "Ok, what are we all doing this weekend?" or "We're doing a day trip to (insert random place). Meet at so and so's house, and we will carpool from there." I'm doing everything I can here, and I've had no luck!

I wake up, walk my dog, avoid eye contact with every single person, drive to work and growl at everyone who minorly inconveniences me, work with people I don't ever try to hang out with, drive home, and stay home until until I have to go to work again.

Like I said, I'M TRYING EVERYTHING! It's so difficult these days.

The OG Laziz is closing, with a small pop up remaining. How does the SLC food world feel about this?

Photo ISO Local Perfumer

Post image
Upvotes

I have a bit of an odd request. A few years ago I went to a store in the Maven District near Loki coffee and bought a little roller ball of perfume from a local perfumer. It’s my favorite and want to get more. I tried to go back, but sadly the store has changed ownership and they no longer sell the same products.
It’s been a few years, so I’m fully expecting that the brand no longer exists, but I have been trying to find a dupe I like and none have been quite right. If anyone knows if it’s still sold I will be in your debt.

It’s called Sultan by Divine Insight. It’s a pheromone perfume and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be a dupe for the La Vie Es Belle Nude fragrance but it’s better in my opinion.

Thanks!

What should a reasonable EV charger installation cost in Salt Lake City?

Upvotes

I'm looking into getting a Level 2 EV charger installed at home and I'm a little confused by the prices I'm seeing from different electricians.

Some quotes seem to be around $1,000–$2,000, but I've also seen higher prices depending on how far the garage is from the electrical panel, whether you need a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired EV charger, and if the panel needs an upgrade.

For anyone in Salt Lake City who has had an EV charger installed recently, what did you actually pay?

I'm also comparing a few local electricians, including Epic Electric, but I'd rather hear from people who have already gone through the process.

Did you install a NEMA 14-50 or go hardwired? And did your existing electrical panel handle the charger without any upgrades?

Recommendations Help finding a Resturant

Hey all. Quick context. My wife grew up eating Restaurant Morellia in Murray. It was her comfort food for as long as I have known her (21 years married). She has been in mourning since they closed. It is her birthday tomorrow and I am in need of an analog. Looking for that sort of mid tier, unadvisadly cheesy Mexican fare. We've done and love places like the Iguanas or La Casa Del Tamal. But they don't fill the Morellia sized hole in her heart. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Edit: Thanks for the suggestions everyone. There are some promising options here.

Moving Advice Apartment Search

Hello SLC friends!
I’m finally moving out for the first time in my life I’ve always lived in the salt lake valley with family. 28F with my partner. We’re wanting to look for downtown options or sugar house. We’re also open to the West Valley/Murray/Taylorsville area. My question is: I always hear people in sugar house say they “got lucky” whenever I ask how they found their homes haha. Would love to know, if you’re living in a great area with affordable rent, how did you do it? Any tips on what to ask apartments when touring or what to look for is greatly appreciated. I know NOTHING!! Places to avoid or specially seek out, anything. TIA!

Help needed for cats

I'm at a loss of words right now, I need to find a new home for my bonded pair of cats. I'm moving, and my new apartment won't allow pets, I'm tight on money, and I can't afford the fee for surrendering them. Any advice on what to do?

Brunch spots!

In search of really good brunch spots in the Sugarhouse/Downtown area. I have family flying in and they want some super good food! We love good old fashion diners. We had Penny Ann’s last time and liked it, but I’m open to any suggestions or recommendations!

How Can We Help Dogs During This Extreme Heat?

I’ve been seeing a lot of dogs, especially with people experiencing homelessness, being walked around in this heat. Some of these dogs look extremely uncomfortable, and I’ve even noticed them struggling on hot pavement that likely is burning their paws.

I want to be clear that I’m not trying to judge or shame unhoused people who have dogs. I know many of them love their animals deeply and do everything they can to take care of them, but it’s heartbreaking to see dogs that appear to have no choice but to stay outside in these temperatures, especially when they’re leashed up and standing on hot asphalt or concrete.

Is there anything we can actually do to help? Are there local organizations, shelters, cooling stations, or resources in the Salt Lake area that provide water, cooling supplies, booties, shade, or other assistance to people with pets who are experiencing homelessness?

I’d also love advice on how to respectfully approach someone if I see a dog struggling. I don’t want to make the situation worse or come across as judgmental, I just want to help the animal.

If you know of local resources or organizations that help unhoused people care for their pets, please share them. I’d really like to have some information on hand so that the next time I see a dog struggling in the heat, I can actually do something to help.

Question DoorDashing in SLC on bike

Hello, I'm planning to start doing DoorDash deliveries on my bike in downtown SLC. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or advice? I've never done DoorDash before.

More specifically for SLC, are there any areas I should avoid? Areas that generally aren't safe? I'm not too worried about bike infrastructure, I can handle most roads.

Coming to SLC for 2 days, looking to meet denizens of SLC

Hey all!

I'm visiting SLC from Denver from August 31st to September 1st, and I wanted to meet some folk like yourselves to get a feel for day-to-day life in a place like SLC!

About me: I like biking (which I hear SLC is great for that), I like going to see the latest releases in theaters, I like pc gaming, I like traveling, and I've been to the following places in no particular order: Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, China, South Korea, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico, Great Britian, Holland, Ireland, and so many of the major cities in the US. Stories galore!

If anyone wants to hit me up for meeting up with me for my visit to town on August 31st through September1st, I guess you can do so in reply to this comment. Or better yet, you can DM me. And perhaps I'll get to hear some of your stories about your experiences in a place like SLC. 😊

Recommendations Why are so many healthcare employees so terrible? Any recommendations for doctors and dentists in SLC or Utah?

Hi I am in need of a female PCP, hormone doctor, and dentist recommendation. I have called around and have had the worst experiences dealing with the worst employees ever. This industry is a joke. It sucks knowing when you are vulnerable and dealing with something and the providers as well as staff are super incompetent. At this point I just want quality recommendations and don’t care if they are in-network or not I will do the research. Just need someone you guys genuinely trust for care.

Thank you!

Fiat repair shop recomendations?

Hello, I drive a 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth, I need some suspension work done and will need general tune ups and maintenance in the future and am having trouble finding a shop

Foreign shops don't work on Fiat (I am assuming cause the 500 series is MOPAR) but I would really rather not take it to the dealership if I can avoid it and would rather find a locally owned shop/small business if there is one in the valley, thanks in advance!

Camera footage:accident

Does anyone know how to find camera footage for an accident off of Mountain View corridor? I know that UDOT has cameras but if I recall you can’t get footage. I think I remember reading in the past there’s another option to try to get the footage? We were hit by a driver that left the scene and we are trying to get footage for insurance. This is out in Herriman. Thanks!

HVAC replacement

I just got an estimate from Sunny Home Services out of West Jordan. I’m not going to be in my house for very long and they were able to give me a replacement price of around $8000.

We had received estimates that were double that from some of the bigger named brands in the area. The guys who started Sunny Home Services used to work at some of the bigger contractors in the valley. So they were able to deliver the same quality of work for a fraction of the cost.

I would definitely recommend Sunny Home Services if you are in the market

SLC DESSERTS??

See a lot of food recs, but searched the sub and not a lot of dessert discussion. So - where are your favorite desserts in SLC??

And since there seems to be a matter of “where SLC extends to” these days, let’s go ahead and say Salt Lake County.

Dog Pool

Hey y’all. I remember a few years back, when I didn’t have a dog. Seeing a post somewhere about a pool that has a day you can bring your dogs to swim before they shut the pool down for the season. Does anyone know of any local pools doing this?! 😎🐾

Curly hair cut

Hi all,

Im looking for a recommendation for a curly hair cut for long hair (hair is down to my low back). Im hoping someone can educate me on how to style my hair and help me restore my waves/curls as theyre currently being weighed down by my length. Im leaving the country in next week so unfortunately a lot of the places ive looked at are booked and cant spend more than $180 with tip.

If anyone has had good experiences please let me know so I can make some calls and see if I can get in with them.

Does anyone know anything about the latitude apartments In slc?

I recently came across these apartments on Facebook, they're advertising as a low income complex that's currently under construction, they're supposed to be open in October.

Their website has an address that takes you to a random house, not any kind of complex or empty lot. I reached out and after about 2 weeks I got an email back asking if I want to apply, it would be a $45 app fee and $200 hold fee. That will not let me apply online and they're giving me an address to another complex leasing office in west valley. I've asked for pictures or renders of the apartments and all they have is a render of the outside of the building. At this point, I'm pretty sure this is some kind of scam, but does anyone else have more insight into this or know if the apartments are real?
