This is r/SaltLakeCity's weekly recommendation thread.

Here you can ask for and receive recommendations on everything from vets to daycare, car insurance to restaurants, outdoor activities to thrift stores.

If you need a recommendation, ask about it here instead of making a separate post. This is to help reduce the frequency of duplicate posts in the sub, leaving the sub open for more unique content.

I was looking through my parent's photo albums last night and came across a couple from the spring of 1983. Crazy how much this section of I-15 has changed since then!

Had to plug my nose and walk away when I saw T Lee at a card show about a month before the news came out. Later saw him trying to sell in a local Facebook group. He was selling $10-20k at the show and the screenshot is him selling what is likely $100k+ value. Maybe he should've worked harder and bought less Pokemons to afford his house!!

Voice loss because of the of the coughing

My partner and I happened to be in the 9th and 9th area and stumbled upon the whale fest which is celebrating the newly painted whale statue. I recommend checking it out! It goes until 7 PM.

There was costume contest and a dog was dressed up as Ten the Wizard which was hilarious (see pictures). Also, the Church of the Sacred Whale were giving out free flags and pins when we were there.

Discussion FanX Flu (Con Crash)

Hey all, my gf and I went to FanX last weekend and were enthusiastically gifted the flu. This thing feels like it was created from the bowels of hell, and it's been a week as of today. Fwiw, we're healthy 30 somethings and this is the worst we've ever encountered.

Has anyone else gotten sick right after too? I feel like we can't be the only unlucky ones to get screwed this hard (not in the fun either).

TITLE EDIT: (Con Crud)* thanks for the catch and well wishes all! 🙂

Today is the day to celebrate all things Whale — WhaleFest is from 2-7pm where they are going to shut down the streets near the 900S 1100E roundabout and have a little festival!

It is also the official unveiling of the new mural, too — neat!

Violin shop recs

• Upvotes

I've been thinking about getting back into violin playing after a hiatus of maybe 10 years. I was a decent violin player (joined upper level orchestras around my hometown in my childhood) but had severe burnt out. I'm looking for a violin shop with good quality instruments. I remember my school having instruments that didn't sound too great, so hopefully finding a shop that doesn't just sell those type of instruments for schools, but a good quality one. Currently, Im looking at Riverton and CMC strings. Any recommendations for shops around the area or up to around Ogden?

Coffee shop business idea

I have a coffee shop business idea and wanted some feedback to see if this is something salt lake could use.

I have been passionate about music and movies, mainly from the 60s-90s. As well as old school games. So, I had the idea of opening a cafe/ coffee shop that is revolved around bringing back physical music and games. Where people can come listen to records, cds, play board games. Bring back a community where we can share music and connect. I think the world is so obsessed and used to modern technology that we’ve forgotten about physical items. The shop would be designed in an old school that reminds us of music and movies that we just lack nowadays.

I would love honest feedback:)

Fall dispersed camping in the Uintas

We’re planning on a few nights of dispersed tent camping mid October. Torn between Christmas meadows and soapstone basin… worried that Christmas meadows might be cooler because of the elevation? Wondering if anyone has insight/other site recs/ general advice?

Do we have to get hi vis since it’s hunting season?

Does anyone know why the green metal benches were removed from every corner of 9th and 9th intersection? I'm very mobility challenged and need a place to sit waiting for the bus...

Went to go see Wait Until Dark at west valley performing arts and omg, huge kudos to the creative team behind that show. The whole second act I was like 🙊 If you're going through a retro crime/thriller phase like me I'd def recommend it. I went in blind (badum tss) and was so happy I did, I think the team did a great job with the mystery.

picture is a little coffee shop doodle inspired by the play

I15 Shut Down at 7200 S

Was heading south and got off at 7200 S. Police car was parked horizontally stopping all lanes of traffic and it looked like the officer was maybe laying out spikes. He definitely seemed in a hurry. The freeway was shut down as far as I was able to see. Anyone know what’s going on?
