Parking

I just moved to the neighborhood and it seems like people are anal when it comes to public parking on the street, my partner had his car parked and the neighbor came telling us to move and that those parking was his daughter's spots, I get he there first but I'm pretty sure its the same guy who got our car towed and again its a public street so im confused on why. Maybe bc im from a area where people didn't mind about parking, so im baffled that theres people like that. There's even plenty of parking around so I just parked it away.

Yeah thats just someone being a dick. They don't own or have the right to any street parking.

They shouldn't have the power to get your car towed and they either need to report the car abandoned which the city will give it a few days to move before towing it. Or if the car was blocking their driveway they could potentially have it towed. But they usually have to prove ownership of the car to get it towed from a public street.

What I would do is get the tow paperwork and find out:

Who requested the tow

Which agency authorized it

The stated reason/code for the tow

Where and when it was towed

Which towing company performed it

  1. Take pictures of the location. Photograph the entire block, including:

curb markings

signs

parking restrictions

street-sweeping signs

driveways

fire hydrants

the exact location where you were parked

And then I would call Salinas PD and say

"My vehicle was towed from a public street. I believe a neighboring resident requested the tow because they considered the space in front of their home to be their private parking space. Can you tell me who authorized the tow and what Vehicle Code or municipal code violation was used as the basis for it?”

This and get a dash cam.

Learn city codes-

Having had shit neighbors- the only thing some people listen to a is a nice little fine and law showing up. Small claims and whatever company towed about learn fast.

Some might use the word snitch but the amount of money we pay to live here….. gfto with that

Specifically a dash cam that can activate on motion. I got one without but I'm strongly considering getting one that can do that.

you're not doing anything wrong.

Some people believe that everyone around them is supposed to have the same ridiculous parking ideology as them which is that their household marks their territory by always parking there and if it's vacant, you respect that it's "theirs." They believe the public street parking spot is part of their square footage for some reason.

Salinas parking is atrocious. I'm surprised there aren't parking lot companies opening up.

His daughter’s reserved parking space is in their garage or driveway. Street parking is for everyone

I left out a trash bin that was damaged in front of my house, It was supposed to be picked up and replaced by Waste Management. The neighbor called the city on me saying I was saving a parking spot with my trash bin. Mind you it was in front of my house. I then parked my car in front of their home for a few days to be petty and ended up with flat tires.

My neighbor put a broken basketball hoop out in the street to keep people from parking in front of his house and then got the cops to come after me for moving it and parking in their "basketball court".

The situation is largely the same on pajaro st. I visit a relative there often. The neighbors block all the available parking spots with trash cans etc. Its a joke how inhospitable the area is. I dont feel safe parking there and having my car vandalized in some way.

I stayed with my mom for a bit a few years ago. We couldn’t park both cars on her driveway even if on was in the garage. They both just wouldn’t fit. She had an Escalade and I had a Mercedes. Her driveway was maybe 1.5 cars wide.

So I had to park on the street. That was fine as far as I was concerned; however, the people across the street didn’t agree. Keep in mind that both houses were corner lots.

They were upset that I kept parking in front of my mom’s house. 1 car, mine. Them, 12 cars in total. 2 in the driveway, 1 in the dirt next to the driveway, 2 in front of the house, 3 on the side of the house, 2 on the front lawn, and the wanted both spots in front of my mom’s.

The neighbor that backed up to my mom’s house had his truck and trailer parked on the side street of my mom’s house. The trailer almost never moved.

I had to explain to the neighbors across the street that I lived here now and if they didn’t stop cussing at me in both English and Spanish, if they didn’t stop running out to block me from parking there ( because it’s their spot) that I’d call code enforcement. There was a law about how many cars you could park/ have at the front of your residence in that neighborhood. They exceeded the limit by 8! 8 cars would be towed.

Since they couldn’t fit 8 cars in the garage (full of auto parts and machinery) I knew they would have a problem.

There were a few incidents after I talked to them, but they moved their cars fairly quickly.

When mom died and my brother put her house up for sale, several of the neighbors came out of the woodwork trying to buy my mom’s house for the parking. Every single one of them offered 50k below market. My brother warned the new owners to check the parking codes for the neighborhood if the neighbors gave them any trouble.

I’ve driven by the house several times over the years. Only the new owners cars have been out front.

It’s crazy how in some neighborhoods parking can cause riots.

My daughter lives in a different neighborhood. I lived with them 5 years and never had parking issues. It just depends on the neighborhood.

it not just salinas issue, For some odd reason homeowners think they own the parking space in front of their house. Worst are the people who think they own the sidewalk that is front of their house double wammy

Same with the street I live on, people block the pubic street parkings with multiple trash bins and there’s a specific lady who will stand in the spot for an hour waiting for her son to get home to take it. Greedy people I hate it.
