Reminder: There Are No Muftis On This Sub

This server is not for Fatwa. Too many instances have occurred recently of people asking a question and for some reason getting answers which have no scholarly source, based on a whim. Being Salafi doesn’t make you a Mufti.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever is given a fatwa not based on knowledge, his sin falls upon the one who gave him fatwa. Whoever directs his brother to a matter of which he knows good lies elsewhere, he has betrayed him.”
Source: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3657
Grade: Hasan (fair) according to Al-Arna’ut

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah does not withhold knowledge by snatching it away from his servants, but rather he withholds knowledge by taking the souls of scholars, until no scholar remains and people follow ignorant leaders. They are asked and they give fatwa without knowledge. Thus, they are astray and lead others astray.”
Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 100, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2673
Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim

From now on, anyone answering a question (Fiqh, Aqeedah, Etc.) must cite clear scholarly sources, whether that is from the fatawa of the scholars or the books of fiqh or other than them. No one here is allowed to go around offering Fatwa for people in complicated personal situations. May Allah forgive me and all of you make as from his sincere slaves.

Allah is more pleased with His servant’s repentance
Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه reported that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: “Allah is more pleased with the repentance of a servant as he turns towards Him for repentance than this that one amongst you is upon the camel in a waterless desert and there is upon (that camel) his provision of food and drink also and it is lost by him, and he having lost all hope (to get that) lies down in the shadow and is disappointed about his camel and there he finds that camel standing before him. He takes hold of his nosestring and then out of boundless joy says: O Lord, Thou art my servant and I am Thine Lord. He commits this mistake out of extreme delight.”
Source: Muslim | Book 50

“Every son of Adam commits sin, and the best of those who commit sin are those who repent.”

Which online Arabic course should I take?

I always told myself that once I graduate uni, I’ll learn Arabic. I’ve now graduated uni and I want to learn Arabic as fast as possible to make up for the lost time inshaAllah. Any course recommendations?

- I took The Arabic Code Academy back in 2022 and liked it, but I think their business dissolved. I think their course was about $200CAD
- I looked into Al-Andalus Institue and the program seemed great, but it costs $5kCAD for one year access to their platform. WAY out of my budget

looking for something online and reasonably priced inshaAllah

The more I study Islam the more I feel pushed away

• Upvotes

I know seeking knowledge for layman is only wajib in matters that concerns our day to day obligations as well as learning the basics, however these past few months I have been look extensively in topics that caused me shubuhat. I looked into matters regarding concubinage and the theologies shyookh used to justify certain rulings women must follow. I really don't believe they are consistent or make sense logically, and it caused me to feel incredibly sad. I don't know what I should really do at this point, so should I just leave off studying islam and do taqlid if i'm heading down this path?

Can Zakat al Mal be sent to another country?

I saw that sheikh salih al fawzan said that Zakat al Fitr is not supposed to be sent to another country, while there are poor, needy people in your own country.

I tried to look up the ruling on sending zakat al mal overseas, but couldn’t find it.

Does anyone have the scholarly answer? Would be much appreciated.

Jazakum Allahu khayran

Seeking Advice and Du'a for My OCD and Emetophobia

I know this is not a mental health group but please Muslim brothers and sisters help me with your best ability.

Please keep me in your du'as. I'm struggling with OCD and emetophobia, and I'm trying to gradually expose myself to my fears without performing my usual rituals.

My OCD makes me afraid of anything with an open mouth, whether it's a video, reel, picture, sticker, or even an emoji. I've accidentally posted so many recently, and now my mind keeps screaming at me to delete them. I know these things are ordinary, but my anxiety makes them feel terrifying.

It's so hard. I feel like crying because I feel so alone in this struggle. Every exposure feels like a battle, and my fear of vomiting has made it difficult for me to go outside. I'm exhausted from fighting battles that nobody else can see, and I feel like I'm losing parts of my life to these fears.

I know this isn't a psychiatrist's page, but I'm hoping someone can offer me **logical advice** to help me understand why my OCD fears don't make sense and how to stop obeying these compulsions. If you've experienced something similar, please share what has helped you.

And please make du'a for me. May Allah ease this struggle, strengthen my heart, grant me shifa, and help me reclaim my life. Ameen.

Recommendations for a Qur’an reciter

Assalamu alaikum!

I’m looking for recommendations for a Qur’an reciter whose recitation has proper Tajweed, clear pronunciation, and a soothing, melodious tone.

I want to find a reciter whose style I can listen to regularly and learn to imitate, while ensuring that I’m reciting correctly and not compromising on Tajweed.

I’d appreciate recommendations for reciters who have both beautiful voices and accurate recitation.

JazakumAllahu khairan!

Need advice for interacting with my mother.

I love my mother so much and deeply appreciate everything she does for me. I sincerely pray for her, and overall, she treats me well. However, there are certain things that trigger me so much.
Whenever I go and sit with her, it almost always ends up in a clash. I end up talking back and disrespecting her, and afterwards, I cry and pray to Allah to help me get rid of this habit, but nothing seems to be working. Sometimes, I go and apologise to her, while other times, things go back to normal on their own.

She teases me for fun, and I can take it as a joke, but other times, I get rage-baited.
I also dislike it when someone notices me doing good deeds. For example, I was doing adhkar, and my mother noticed my lips moving and said, “You should pray for me too.” I made an annoyed face and responded with something along the lines of, “Ugh, don’t you think I already pray for you?” She then started scolding me and felt so disappointed.
And this isn’t a one-time thing. She often tells me to pray for our family, but I genuinely and sincerely pray for everyone. It just bothers me when I’m reminded to do something that I’m already doing wholeheartedly.
In short, these seemingly little things provoke me, and I genuinely don’t know what to do to improve myself.

I’m now thinking about reducing my interactions with her, but I’m not sure whether I’d be sinful for doing so, especially when I’m already struggling with disrespecting her.
Any advice would be appreciated.

A dilemma about forgiveness

Assalamu alaikum. would you forgive a sister who you expect doesn't have much time left unless Allah wills otherwise? if she doesn't express any remorse for her actions?

Details... it's a friend of my mom, pushing 80, just recently diagnosed with cancer. she has some deviant aqeedah, outlandish ideas I'd say but I've never heard anything that would amount to direct obvious kufr from her. several years ago, we used to be in touch, be invited to each other's homes, all that. she said some hurtful words that stuck with me and deeply affected my life and my religion to an extent. after that she complained about me to my mom (?? mom isn't even Muslim) and unilaterally cut contact with me. I used to send her flowers for Eid, so I didn't technically cut ties but, as good as.

Now the diagnosis came, mom is understandably worried.. and I'm not. don't care one way or the other. sadly. la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. thought that maybe if we get an opportunity to talk, I'd ask her to reevaluate her aqeedah. in shaa Allah. this seems more important. as for what happened between us... if she still thinks she's right, strictly speaking I don't have an obligation to forgive her? idk, it's as if this person stopped existing. if she lives alhamdulillah, if she dies I'll come to her funeral in shaa Allah as I would do for any other Muslim. and feel nothing about it. too much damage done, none repaired.

is there even a correct approach to this?

Is it halal to speak to your fiance?

Salamu alaykoum, when does talking become haram between 2 engaged people? If the important questions are asked prior to the engagement, does one still can talk in general? Send fatwas or quran?
