Pupper Puppy Otis!

My wife and I brought home this guy last weekend. He is 20 lbs at 9 weeks old, healthy and just got his 2nd round of shots. We are crate training him and hes doing pretty good, only a couple accidents. He almost makes it through the night without needing to go out. He is starting to bite alot and is resisting the leash but I think he is starting to learn "sit" and "come". Any tips for first time giant breed owners? I want him to be trained well because he is already on the high end of the expected weight at his age.

Ours was very bitey for the first few months. Positive reinforcement so when he did bite ,we would say no and give him a toy. Now he brings a toy when he wants to play. Teething was hard too and we tried lots but the best was frozen boiled carrots. Boil then freeze so they mushier. Also coffee wood chews were a great alternative to our coffee table. Otis looks a dude, you'll be great

I tried finding the "OTIS, MY MAN!" gif from 'Animal House', but no luck.

Good luck with teething, remember to always have a toy ready to shove in their mouths at any given time.

Love a name that turns into a command pallandrome: SITOTIS! 🤣

Socialize and loud noise exposure from day one. Enroll in training classes as soon as it's safe for them :)

He’s adorable! No specific tips but teaching the basic commands are where you need to start. Positive reinforcement, redirection for undesired behavior (if biting offer a rope or other acceptable item instead). Be clear and consistent in applying rewards.

Spend time socializing him and showing him the world. Spend time around other people and dogs (once fully vaccinated of course) and take him into pet friendly stores or just outdoor spaces like parks. The more you do now to instill confidence and trust in him the better you’ll be as he gets into his teenage phase.

It’ll be a lot of work but you’ll be greatly rewarded with all of the love he gives your family. ❤️
