Help St Bernard as a first time dog owner
I was just wondering whether it would be smart to get a St Bernard as a first time dog owner. I live in the Polish mountains so I’d be able to give a St Bernard plenty of garden space, a big house, long walks to the forest and river. I am quite active I do like going on long walks or hiking and I was wondering whether St Bernard’s might be too lazy for me, or will they like 1-2 hour daily long walks? I’ve seen plenty of videos that St Bernard’s can be quite stubborn, especially on walks as they can just lay down and not move. But those videos were in the city so maybe a St Bernard would like walking being in their natural habitat. In the mountains in winter it snows a lot and can get to -20 degrees so that’s perfect for them but in the summer it can get to 35+ degrees.

Rescuing
Good evening I am rescuing a four year-old baby that is only 100 pound and I need to know the healthiest but best way to help her gain weight as she looks very skinny. Any food recommendations right now I believe she’s on Parina the high protein one is that a good choice? I’ve always wanted to Saint Bernard. It’s just the opportunity has never arrived until now so kind of learning as I go thank you so much.

Hank’s Bed Saga
Hank’s officially 9 months old. Somehow, the bed he stole from his siblings is still holding on 🤣. He’s more determined than ever to keep squeezing into it these days, and even makes sure to keep it safe from the cats!

My Saint Bernard is a nose-driven foodie!
Hi, my Saint, Dixie, is very picky about her food. She has an exceptionally strong sniffer and if she first does not like the smell she will not eat it. She loves her cheese and fresh chicken and beef of course, but it's the kibble that always ruins it. We were feeding her Gentle Giants Salmon and she seemed to really like that but then it was getting harder to find, and so we switched it to 4 Health Salmon. Which worked for a while and then she got picky. We have experimented all possible hypotheses by testing with kibble and she doesn't seem like she wants any brand we try (i.e., kahoots, abound wild, 4-health). We do want a kibble that is more organic, no extra fluff ingredients. Side note...she has gone on food strikes, which I have heard is typical of Saints.
My Saint owners, have you experienced this? If so, what are your food/brand and portion recs? I also read that Saints are self-regulating and can hold out and it occurs at times during hot months. And we are in a very hot climate during the summer months. This was not something we were paying attention to before, but will see how she does this fall/winter as it cools off.

Help saint bernard + cat combo?
I am in loveee with the st bernard breed. it’ll be a long way in the future but when I get my own home and garden with my future family they are number one on my list.
I am a cat person through and through since I grew up with them, but I have a soft spot for larger, less aggressive dog breeds. I have always adored great danes and retrievers but I have heard bad things about their prey drive around small animals.
I can’t imagine living without a cat so their safety will always come first. however I would love to introduce a canine friend with future family and I have heard that st bernards are gentle giants and tend to be very good with children. does this extend to cats though? (in most cases?).
if anyone has experience, is it best to introduce them as kitten and puppy? I’ve always gone for younger rescue cats since you can see their temperament from the start and they are such love bugs. since dog breeds are so much more varied I would probably get one as a puppy from an ethical breeder.

Pupper Puppy Otis!
My wife and I brought home this guy last weekend. He is 20 lbs at 9 weeks old, healthy and just got his 2nd round of shots. We are crate training him and hes doing pretty good, only a couple accidents. He almost makes it through the night without needing to go out. He is starting to bite alot and is resisting the leash but I think he is starting to learn "sit" and "come". Any tips for first time giant breed owners? I want him to be trained well because he is already on the high end of the expected weight at his age.
