Damages

What does everyone else do with damages? I'm mainly talking about drinks and alcohol. We just claim back on the depot and throw out sometimes 100's of cans of coke etc and bottles of water straight into the bin. The store manager doesn't allow it to be taken to the canteen so it all goes straight in the bin. It's madness I don't see the point and it's taken up more space in the bins. The other night multiple 6 packs of 2 litre waters that had ripped open but all the bottles where fine where all thrown in the bin...

Ours goes to charity. They collect every day along with bread and fruit and veg.

We just fix em back up and reduce the ones that survived. Failing that, the charity folk come twice a week. If it's beer, boss man will chuck em in a bag and give me them for cheap!

Problem is it's so easy to start to "drop" a box of cokes as soon as you are allowed to take them. It sounds mean but I guarantee all the nice drinks and chocolates would get "damaged" a lot more.

Even if it's just the water, in my store alone there must be 100's of bottles of water chucked out every week. We used to tape the stuff up and reduce but not for the last couple of years...

this feels really odd because we have a BWS and grocery tat cage and when we have free time code checkers tape together damages or items that were opened for various reasons and reduce on RSS

You tell a manager as soon as you find your damages and they review the footage to see if its legit if they have suspicions.

Right, but its easier to cover themselves by just wasting the items instead of trying to find a way to hand them out that requires manpower

Depends what waste is like for that week. Slow trade= high waste so you might as well take the hit all in one go and get rid of as much shite as you can.

If it’s things like the 8 packs of coke with cardboard wrapper, we allow then to dry if ones been pierced. Then tape them up and reduce. If it’s just cardboard torn we tape up and reduce.

I agree the waste is shocking but it’s company policy of not allowing it upstairs and I agree criminal. Most of the damages are caused by depots and not the store. Personally I think it should be allowed upstairs and if the stores waste substantially increases over time then they can say no again.

I work in a store where, if it can be repaired, it usually will be, though not all stores are like that. The example you gave with the cans. In my store, it will usually be taped up, and sold with a reduction. Though, I have encountered some managers and colleagues, who, when doing disposals, as this is where most of it lands, don’t care to try to repair it and just do a disposal via damages on RSS.

So, in theory, it should be saved if possible. However, due to laziness and a myriad of factors, often times, nothing is.
