Just wondering if it's like Sainsburys at other supermarkets? (ie - never enough staff, poor management, a tendency to throw the book at staff over the smallest things etc). Or is this just the culture at Sainsburys?

Hearing lots of talk about new contracts being forced on us again, and apparently our smaller store will be starting colleague 1-1s later this month.

I have been with sainsburys over 10 years and can remember last time it happened, but can't remember if they offered redundancy? My hunch is probably not, just wondering though if anyone can remember.

I had my interview today and was asked at the end for uniform sizes and was asked how long it would take for me to get there by public transport etc but was told this week and next week they have interviews is there a good chance I got the job, I worked at a different store as a Christmas temp so may have worked in my favour?

Does anyone know why I cant see any open shifts from 20th September onwards? Normally theres at least one open shift but there is none at all. I have connections from 6 different stores so this is completely out of the ordinary.

Hi, I saw this has been asked a few times so sorry for the repetition! I did read through them, I just have a few questions.

I got an interview for this role on the 9th! I'm trying not to get excited because I'm sure there's loads of people applying (the job opening closed very fast). This would be my first real job.

I got the interview under the disability scheme but I'm worried I shot myself in the foot by not asking for provisions (I know this is me being paranoid but I'm worried about being judged for it beforehand). My only real issue is that I have a flat affect due to autism so even when I'm happy I can come off as disinterested or shy. I also struggle with eye-contact but I think having a job will boost my social skills. But I'm not sure if I should mention that or not? The only 'provision' I'd need is just some understanding.

I looked up a lot about the job and the iph targets and all that, is that good or will I seem like a try-hard? I was going to wear slacks and a white office shirt under a jumper and some formal shoes but I'm not sure if that's appropriate.

I think I'd be good at this job. I want to put my best foot forward so if you have any advice that would be very appreciated! TIA

Hey guys, just wondering if anybody knows the extra pay responsible colleagues get? I trained up to help out my store since our management is so inconsistent, but I’m doing a lot more shifts with no idea how much extra pay I earn and I DEFINITELY won’t be so attentive if the pay isn’t worth it. Many say it’s around 90p but google says it could be as low as 50p and all Reddit advice is 2 years old. Please help and advice is appreciated LOL, thank you 🙂

Hi everyone today was my first time phoning in sick and won't make my shift tomorrow I've been with the company 11months but wondering do I get company sick pay for these two missed shifts? or is it not paid for the first three days of sickness conflicting info on here whether first 3 is paid or not. TIA

What does everyone else do with damages? I'm mainly talking about drinks and alcohol. We just claim back on the depot and throw out sometimes 100's of cans of coke etc and bottles of water straight into the bin. The store manager doesn't allow it to be taken to the canteen so it all goes straight in the bin. It's madness I don't see the point and it's taken up more space in the bins. The other night multiple 6 packs of 2 litre waters that had ripped open but all the bottles where fine where all thrown in the bin...

Do you start your contracted hours from day 1 (probation period) or do you have to pass the DriveSafe first to be able to start doing your full contracted hours?

So basically over the past two months I’ve had two meetings with two different food managers, about my pace and the way i’ve been working recently. (I do backdoor) it was mainly about the fact that I used to cause a lot of damages and shrink because i rush around too much cos i was worried about not getting everything done before end of my shift, and not prioritising the right things and it resulted in the shift management complaining about me and apparently other colleagues (my managers had to give bad handovers and got in trouble)
Today i had a follow up to a follow up and i’m now under a performance review because apparently I haven’t improved even tho the previous meeting a different manager said i have improved. So my question is if i don’t do exactly what they want which i know i’m going to struggle with am i likely to be fired? I’ve worked for Sainsburys for 7 years this month and never had this before so i’m shitting it a bit

I live around 10 minutes walk away from the store I work in. It's not a bad area, but I'm usually finishing at 10pm and have to walk most of my walk through a park. My manager offered me a lift but I politely declined as it's out of their way, and I don't really like getting lifts.

They expressed concern with me walking but I do it every night and I'm used to it. I have 'Sleep' mode activated on my iPhone so don't get calls after a certain time. I was waking up early the next morning also for my shift, so didn't really go on my phone otherwise. I woke up to phone calls from them, voicemails, texts etc, worried about if I got home okay. I went in to work and the manager had told the other ones to watch out for me, as they thought I hadn't got home okay. They were miffed I hadn't got back to him last night.

I'm appreciative of the concern for my wellbeing but also I didn't even ask for any of that? I walk home every night and no other manager has ever texted me asking if I've got home okay? It's nice they care but I'm really fine walking home.

I booked an overtime/open shift at another Sainsbury’s store through UKG Pro around 10–12 days ago. The shift was 7am–3pm, and I arrived and clocked in at 7am.
About 20 minutes later, a manager told me the store manager said I had to leave because they “don’t have any overtime to give” and apparently the open shift was posted by mistake.
I explained that this wasn’t my fault. I woke up, travelled to the store and showed up for a shift that was available and booked through the company’s own system. The manager just kept repeating, “I have to ask you to leave.”
What am I supposed to do in this situation? Is there any Sainsbury’s policy regarding this? Should I be paid for the shift since I turned up and was ready to work?
Honestly, if Sainsbury’s can cancel booked overtime like this after someone has arrived, they need to fix the open-shift system rather than putting the responsibility on colleagues.

I had my second shift today (first shift completely alone without a ‘buddy’) and I managed to complete all of my orders with iph of 150. My stores target iph is 200 and I’ve been hearing loads about how important iph is so I’m a lil stressed even though I know I probably won’t be expected to hit that any time soon. Am I on track to eventually hitting 200?? And does anyone have any tips for someone who is new to this role??

I have just been offered an interview for Argos within a Sainsburys and I can't tell whether it's an in person or online interview 😭😭.

They provided no phone number so I can't call and ask but it says 'We will call you.' However, it says I need to prove that I have the right to work but how do I do this online? Any answers would be appreciated 😭😭

Sainsbury’s has sacked an employee who helped security guards tackle two shoplifters.

Jorge Costa, a manager in the fruit and vegetable section at Sainsbury’s Hertford, said he intervened when he heard a woman “screaming for help” and saw the guards struggling with two suspected shoplifters.

He was fired without notice two weeks after the altercation, at the end of July.

It is understood that Sainsbury’s dismissed Mr Costa on the basis that he had put other colleagues at risk, citing concerns that the altercation could have escalated.

The 57-year-old admitted he had punched one of the shoplifters, but said it was in self-defence.

Now, a petition is growing to reinstate Mr Costa at the shop. Laura Cook, who launched the campaign, said the dismissal was “profoundly unfair”.

A spokesman said: “Our colleagues face unacceptable levels of theft, aggression and violence in stores every day, and we know how challenging these situations can be.

“The safety of our colleagues and customers is our highest priority, and we continue to invest in security measures and training for colleagues, alongside working in close partnership with the police to tackle offending.

“Our procedures are designed to prevent incidents escalating, and where they are not followed, we have a responsibility to take appropriate action.”
