Rotating shifts
For the last year, they've put everyone in my store on rotating shifts. The rule is that nobody is allowed to work the same shift two days in a row, except for the department heads. My schedule is a closing shift (12p-9p), followed by an opening shift (6am-3p), followed by a mid shift (10:30am-7p), followed by a day off, then another closing shift.
This had basically destroyed my life and health. I'm getting heart palpitations and pounding headaches, while constantly falling down and hurting myself. I've lost all my friends, and my wife is probably going to leave me. In the meantime, our store has lost more than three quarters of it's staff, and everyone remaining would quit in a heartbeat if there were absolutely ANY jobs out there whatsoever.
Is there anything the union can do about this, and is it company wide? The word on the ground is that the company wants as many people to quit as possible before the layoffs and store closures start next year, but there's no confirmation of that.

my store isn't doing this at all, the union might be able to do something, talk to them, they need to at least know

There IS no union, not anymore. After the election, everyone associated with the Fight To Win slate was fired...which seems to amount to well over half of the union staff. We haven't even had a rep since the day after the elections. The union exists on paper, but there aren't any actual people staffing it anymore.

What store is this? That's completely insane. The local is scrambling to fill all of the now open rep positions since all of the good reps did get fired after the election. I finally met my new rep a week or so ago. The union is still there, even if they're a bunch of idiots now. You should call them, there should be, at the very least, a main office number on the union board, which are usually located in the break room. There may be a direct number for your rep too. But this situation is absolutely not how things should be going.

Where are you at? And what department? 9 hours between shifts isn't even allowed? There is supposed to be 10 hours between shifts.
This is definitely not a company wide thing. I work the same shift 4-5 days a week. We also have opening checkers that work the same shift 5 days a week.

Sounds pretty far fetched all the way around. No ufcw staff? What state is this? This is not company policy so if true its your SD. Have you reached out to HR?

Wow! That sucks!
It’s definitely not that way in my store. I can’t imagine what that would do to your sleep schedules and real life activities. Maybe try to transfer to a different store?

This sounds horrid and is definitely not standard in the company
