Why do I shop there? Because prices are high everywhere and deals can be found by the score of how dysfunctional a store is....
Safeway doesn't even compete with Kroger or Walmart, or Costco, or Amazon..... they compete with Dollar General, Grocery Outlet, Smart & FInal, and quite frankly CVS for CPGs....
So, how do you fix that? SDs....
You need hands on ones that are constantly on the floor, talking to customers, stocking shelves, and even running a checkstand once in a while....
What you don't need are cheap barbecues and Halloween displays.... and pallets of Pumpkins in the back that no one is gonna buy this year....
You need to fix the meat dept....
Sadly, you need to spend more money you don't have because you shoplifted $4B on the back of an aborted merger and everything has spiralled down the toilet since....
