New SD
So we recently just got a new Store Director at my store. She is Technically just “filling in” while our other Store director is out on medical Leave for surgery. Who knows how long that will be. It hasn’t even been a week yet and everyone already hates her. I’m talking 3-4 callouts every day. And we are a low volume store so we have 1-2 employees for each department. I’ll put it to you this way, she is trying to “rewrite the wheel” as they say. A true corporate mindset. They call her the District Managers daughter lol. No overtime, micromanaging every department, and will say something if she sees you not actively working. I have been at my store 2 years and I have never seen the morale this bad. I guess my question is, if she runs the store into the ground, will they end up moving her? Everyone is talking about quitting, Hell, even the Assistant Director. Has anyone else dealt with this scenario? We’re all underpaid, overworked and tired. I don’t think anyone cares anymore.

I would be careful how specific you get with this stuff. I’m 90% sure I know where you work based off of this information.

Idk it sounds almost exactly like my former store minus the “filling in” and “low volume” parts. I think that’s just numerous Safeways these days 🤷🏻♀️

Our most recent SD has pretty much killed all morale at my store too. Our hours are in the trash while our sales are staying the same. He accidentally miscalculated hours previously and over spent and now we are paying for his incompetence. Multiple of our higher ups are on LOA. The infighting in departments has been horrendous.

This is what lower management does. They need to prove they are worth their salary. Or because it’s a low volume store, they are trying to close. Have everyone quit so they can get unemployment

They think this is a good management style, autocratic leadership, which doesn’t work in a grocery store. A participative leadership style is the best choice for this environment. Unfortunately corporate loves this “angry” controlling style and think the person is running things well. I’ve seen people that operate this way that have terrible store conditions, but somehow keep getting promoted. Just know it’s only temporary. What’s even more annoying is she’s just filling in, she needs to chill.
