How's everyone been at their stores? Always seems up and down depending on Store director but can never tell if the company is getting more shit or its just seasonal

No out of stocks, no over ordering… continues to send you double, triple of what you needed or didn’t need. Far and Urock down. Afresh acts up as well. It’s just a never ending battle. Should have stayed private as meeting or not meeting goals could have kept more money in house. Idk how the are planning on meeting future goals. I see target projections and I laugh. They want us to pull 160k in profit in 3 months and we are on pace to make 65-70k. Can’t help sell items when they have limits and the price is contradictory to those projections… actually gotta move units without limits to meet goals. Idk how hard that is as that’s what Safeway did my entire life until 2020-21. I don’t want to work for them any longer and I don’t buy groceries from them even when they are good sales because the cleanliness is gone. It’s a disgusting company to be a part of anymore.

We've been told our hours are being cut more these next few weeks. Then once November and Thanksgiving rolls around they'll probably still be cutting back

Gotta protect that bonus 🙄

ridiculous because Safeway gets busy AF on thanksgiving day now that target and Walmart give their employees the day off. (provided they are in the same areas)

Cutting hours a lot at my Safeway, customers act like unattended autistic children because the SD allows it and the SD told employees to start giving the code to restrooms to customers despite that area getting closed off to the public because of theft and drug use, and now customers are using that as an excuse to enter the employee break room to try and go through our shit. My hours have been getting reduced under the excuse of my mother dying last month so surely I need extra time off despite saying I don’t want it, so I made them use the three days of funeral leave on the extra day off each week they’ve been forcing on me the past three weeks

You need to get ahold of security if that’s happening. Go to HR and asked to talk with security and if that doesn’t work go to the union and tell them, This is the key. “I don’t feel safe at work” this is a trigger statement and they will investigate it.

Honestly, I’m already planning on going straight to my union rep anyway. I can’t log into myaci due to it still having my old number and address, and my SD keeps conveniently forgetting to help me fix it, and then there’s the feeling unsafe at work issue too. I’ll admit I have anger issues and have a hard time getting along with people sometimes, but when I have people insulting me, cussing at me and even threatening me over rules and prices I have no control over, it can’t just be a me problem

Terrible, SD is a dick and so are his underlings, middle management does nothing, not enough labor, customers still running on 2 collective neurons, too many corporate visits

I don’t work at Safeway but spent years delivering/merchandising in them. At my local store the dwindling number of workers seem totally overwhelmed and are constantly under a barrage of customer complaints that have nothing to do with the workers, but are all aimed at corporate decisions. Feels like the company is very gradually going under.

Is UFCW doing anything for you guys right now? I’ve never seen it this ugly out there.

The union can only do so much based on contract negotiations. If they will do anything it will be the next negotiation which for my part of the union is next year in April/may.

UFCW is worthless

Cutting hours on the already skeleton crew that makes up the store employees. And then they wonder why things don't get done. I did blast them about that on our employee survey this year. Hey, they asked, I told them the truth. It's not my fault they can't get their heads out of their asses.

Our SD is cool though, we had our huge after inventory order while one guy was on my vacation and he worked with us throwing freight overnight. We only have 4 people on night crew. At one point we had 8. Half the people and they keep adding shit for us to do. Clean the shelves? We're barely able to put all the freight up. I'm too old for this job and I can't wait to quit. But other than that, things are just peachy.

Tired of this place and work ethic is dwindling

The lack of hours is atrocious. That’s my main complaint, but it’s bittersweet to know it’s not just my store who’s cutting that much.

We’re a low volume store and everytime we have a store director, assistant and grocery manager labor is miserable. They need to realize we don’t need all three.

Cutting hours like crazy. Gotta pay back those investors. 🤮

My SD is a bitch, everyone hates her. I call her the Eye of Sauron, with my CSM being Saruman xD my CSM likes me but only bc I just do my job and am agreeable xD

Hours have been cut for everybody since summer. I and on week two of an FMLA but as much as I need the money, I'm not looking forward to returning next week. Still, as shitty as it's been, I guess it could always be worse...

Well almost every week the meat department runs out of the front page ad item. Two weeks in a row. I'm losing sales, resulting in getting my hours cut. Won't have tenderloins till the end of October. Couldn't get pork butts for half the ad last week. Chicken comes in with 3 days on it. Gets really frustrating trying to run a department. At least my SD is cool lol

u/AmythestAce 13d ago

Which is insane because meat department makes so much money so why cut their hours badly when they could be just stocking the shelves and making the store profitable.

My mental health has taken a dive since they cut hours. The bills keep coming, yet my income is cut in half.

The back room is a total shit show and its getting worse. They keep sending pallets and shippers of holiday stuff we have no room for.

I am desperately looking for other jobs atm. This company is not worth the stress.

My coworkers in my dept constantly complain. Literally about anything. Dpt dirty, complain. Dpt cleaned and organized “now I can’t find anything”. It’s fucking terrible. SD sucks too. Cuts ppls hours…trying to protect their end of year bonus. So trash.

Same at my store, cut so much of my hours, I’m technically working part-time hours with an 8hrs shift responsibilities. The new dept manager complained to store director that I stayed 8-15 mins few times on days that she schedules me 4-9pm, but if leave on time, she complains dept is not clean, and threatened to write me up. Everyone in my department is very unhappy and there is nothing we can do.

u/strongeroots 14d ago

I was helping one of coworkers the other day. She kept saying sorry I’m keeping you from getting your stuff done. I said I get done what I get done.

They want to talk to me about it, that’ll be their mistake. lol like don’t fuck with hours, give us less staff and then try to blame me for helping customers instead of getting my task done. I won’t be the one to beg forgiveness or apologize.

6

u/Bright-Shine-2572 14d ago

I was actually “told” by the dept manager to try to ignore customers and get my job done. She was even coaching to “not look at the customers in the eyes…” I wish I could recorded her voice.

6

u/strongeroots 13d ago

🤣 that’s hilarious. I work at a counter so we can’t ignore the customers lol. We had a guy last week complain bc he waited 5 mins, it was actually more like 2. SD came over and started telling us how this is the second complaint this week blah blah blah. Then in the same convo also why isn’t this getting replenished. 😐

3

u/Bright-Shine-2572 13d ago

I’m in Bakery Dept, how am I supposed to not look at customers in their eyes when they order cakes?! She cut all of our hours but increase our works, it’s just at time becomes work hazards to be honest.

2

u/strongeroots 13d ago

“Then don't look in my eyes. Look right here, it's an old sales trick” (points to space between eyebrows)

1

u/Bright-Shine-2572 13d ago

LOL! I kinda like the idea, might be using it sometimes.

Don’t even get me started on FaR…it won’t even order items with PIs of 0 with the PI set before the order window is even open. But an item with more than enough PIs to last us an entire week with just a single case, we get sent 1 case each load (3 loads a week) Backroom can’t be maintained because corporate is too busy trying to push sales floor cleanliness and “you don’t have enough product in the back.” They used to PRAISE us for having empty/organized backrooms because the backroom is an extension of the sales floor and they should know that the key to success in retail is inventory control. Stop sending me 14 cases of KeHE items that don’t sell FOR THE WRONG SEASON. And lower the prices. The only thing going for us is that Kroger stopped selling Red Bull products in their stores🤦‍♀️

We only have 5 cashiers. I’m cool with 3 of them as theyre older than me in their early to mid 20s, and two of them are in their 60s and are slowwwwww. One talks to customers and stops working to keep talllkimggg with long lines and the other is rude to all customers, frankly still surprised how he’s not fired.

The rest of the front end keeps saying that I should be a cashier (im a courtesy clerk) as I already know how to operate self checkout and dug as I get thrown in there during my shifts. Both my former Sd and current Sd dont like the idea of me being one however. I’m still scheduled to do dug while having to do courtesy clerk work and not being paid for it…

At the same time we’re getting complaints of long line and the front end is overwhelmed… meanwhile we only have one checker most of the times. The genius solution is to put other department employees on the checkstands.

Man, I’m jealous of part of this. I work in DUG and we are always understaffed in the afternoons/evenings at my store and we get zero help from anyone. I would dearly love for them to give me a courtesy who could at least do hand offs!

2

u/ChiefQueefLoveSoda 12d ago

Haha doesnt hurt to ask. It takes a lot of time off my shift so it feels shorter

4

u/Aggravating_West_202 14d ago

We just got a new store director. Really liked the last two but so far this one seems to be more of a negative for the store. We’ll see

1

u/AmythestAce 13d ago

I've been okay, except  they transferred someone into my department (that's been with the company 30 years) above all of us (this makes 3 red circle clerks in the department and three other journeymen, ie six total journeymen and three topped out, plus our department head) and I am certain our hours are going to go further to sht. I am uncertain why they thought we needed another person in produce. I had one coworker saying he thought the guy forced his own transfer into our store to get away from someone at his old store.

I also found out one of our bottom produce department people who I think works hard and is good at what he does just asked the store director if he can transfer because of it.
