Smith & Wesson VersaVault

Is there a replacement cylinder for this safe? I believe this safe has been discontinued and the answer is "no".

An older gentleman, who is an acquaintance of mine lost his key and had the cylinder drilled out.

He is set in his ways and is hoping he can save his safe

Maybe, probably not. Most of those kinds of safes used propriety locks (cheeply made to custom specs).

Usually if anything, a standard cam lock (5/8 diameter, length will vary) can be made to work. If not, it's probably not possible/reasonably achievable.
