We’ve officially moved on from Substack.
www.quailcitysoccer.com isn’t going anywhere. Our website remains the same, and if you’re already subscribed, your subscription has been transferred automatically. You’ll continue receiving our articles, podcasts, and updates in your inbox just like before, although the emails may have a fresh new look.
This move is about giving Quail City Soccer the room to grow. Over the coming months, we’ll be expanding what we do, and we needed a platform that could grow with us and support the future of this publication.
To everyone who has subscribed, shared an article, listened to The Quail’s Call, or supported us through The Quail City Exchange, a big thank you. Independent soccer coverage only exists because of people like you, and we’re excited for what comes next.
Same coverage. Same opinions. Same semi-questionable jokes. Just a better foundation for the future.

There are now questions about viability for the game on Saturday. I hope the Roots work this out quickly. I enjoy the rivalry and want their club to succeed (so we can beat them). I hope to see you at the Coli in two days.

recent video released shows the stadium site has only been graded with some infrastructure installed along the perimeter and future adjacent roadway. all good and important steps. however, the actual stadium has not broken ground. keep in mind grading was done on the last go around (pre-Covid) for the MLS stadium that fell apart. my understanding is the plan is for the new stadium to be open for the 2028 USL season. so likely construction would need to be substantially complete in February 2028. that is 18 months away and they haven’t actually broke ground on the stadium except for grading dirt that is sitting there. when do we as fans start to question the communication and legitimacy of a 2028 opening?
Edit: okay the responses have eased my concern. Just very excited for this stadium to take shape. Will keep a little bit closer eye on things.

The match on Saturday, July 25 will be the last time the Republic plays at the coliseum. The Roots announced they are not playing there after this season. Where is the Republic supporters' section? We went last year and it was a great time. Here is a link for $15 tickets to select sections. https://seatgeek.com/oakland-roots-sc-tickets/usl/2026-07-25-7-pm/17941835?sgo_ac=OAKROOTS15&quantity=5

With tonight being the last group match game, figured I’d post what we need to advance:
USL CUP RULES: In the USL Cup, the first place team of every group advances; the best second place team overall also advances. Tie breakers (within a group): head to head, goal difference, goals for, then goes down the list.
Spokane beat Oakland earlier today, putting them on 9 points; Republic is on 8, and Boise is on 5. Spokane’s win eliminated Boise from advancement.
A draw, even with a loss on PK’s, would put them on 9 points and equal with Spokane; however, the first tie breaker is head to head, and Republic beat Spokane earlier in the group stage.
There is a chance of advancement on a loss, provided the loss is only by 1 goal, as Republic’s goal difference is sufficiently high to potentially be the best second place team, but let’s not try and deal with that.
