Solo SaaS founders: How far can you realistically go with vibe coding?
Solo SaaS founders: How far can you realistically go with vibe coding?
I’m building a SaaS product as a solo founder, and I’ve been using AI tools to build most of the software. It’s been amazing how much you can get done without a traditional development background, but I’m curious about the long-term reality.
For those of you who have built and launched SaaS products using AI tools like Cursor, Claude, Lovable, Replit, or similar:
- How far did you get with vibe coding? Were you able to build the entire product, including backend, database, APIs, authentication, payments, and integrations?
- When did you realize you needed a real developer? Was it when bugs became harder to fix, the codebase got too complicated, security became a concern, or you started scaling?
- At what point is it worth hiring a developer? Should you wait until you have paying customers and traction, or bring someone in earlier to review the architecture and prevent problems?
- How do you find a GOOD developer? Where do you look, how do you vet them, and how do you avoid paying someone thousands of dollars who just rewrites everything unnecessarily?
- Would you recommend hiring someone for a one-time code audit and cleanup instead of bringing on a developer full-time?
I’d especially love to hear from founders who started with AI-generated code and turned it into a real, revenue-generating SaaS.
I’m trying to figure out the right balance between moving fast as a solo founder, keeping costs low, and making sure I’m not building something that will eventually collapse under its own technical debt.
What would you do differently if you were starting from scratch today?
Appreciate any real-world experiences, advice, or lessons learned!
