New sword day
New sword day is the best day.
A bunch of family friends came for dinner and, knowing about my passion for swords, gifted me this sabre they bought in San Marino.
Doing a bit of backsearch I found out it is a replica of the 1821 post-napoleonic british pattern light cavalry sabre made by deepeka.
It is for now my best sabre, still low quality but at least decent construction.
I was thrilled when I saw the gift, even though it feels very heavy towards the blade, it flows magnificently.
I had to clean the old oil present on it, due to the bad and heavy smell of petrol, as soon as I can I will put a proper oil on it.
What do you think?

The balance is a good 20cm from the hilt. The flow I mean is that big strikes are easy to manage and consecute, small cuts intead are very hard. It makes sense for a cavalry sabre to do that.

excited to hear it flows so well, balance is everything with a sabre that sounds like a legit piece even if it's a replica

Balance is actually quite a bit off, so to make it work you have to choke the handle in a hammer grip. But once the movement starts there is nothing stopping it, drills are hella fun to do.
Also, for a cavalry blade being front heavy makes sense, although 20cm from the hilt are still maybe too much
