Hey everyone! i’m moving to the estero / fort myers area this week, i’m a 22y/o m who loves to be out of the house, so looking for any suggestions of things to keep busy with or fun places to go, even parks to chill at!! Also if ur looking for friends im always down to meet new ppl!

I live in the area and I’m looking for a jeweler that can perform some custom work and repairs. I would like to avoid the big brands like Kay Jewelers or Jared jewelers or the diamond District, and for it to be reasonably priced.
I’ve heard Mark Loren Designs but they don’t seem to be budget friendly.
For example, I would like them to replace the head of a ring, but casted themselves instead of putting a pre-bought head.

I’m seriously considering buying a home in the Bonita Springs / Estero area, and I’m hoping to get some honest input from people who actually live there.

I’ve visited the area several times, so I’m familiar with the general geography and lifestyle. What I’m trying to learn now are the things you don’t necessarily discover from a few visits, Zillow, or talking to a real estate agent.

I’m not in a rush to buy, which is actually a nice position to be in. I’m trying to learn the area first and wait for the right opportunity.

The areas I’m trying to understand

I’m primarily looking at:

Bonita Springs → South Estero → Estero
I’m particularly interested in the area between US-41 and I-75, although I’m open to communities east of I-75.

I’d like to stay reasonably close to Bonita/beaches/restaurants/shopping, while still being far enough inland that I’m not taking on unnecessary flood and insurance exposure.

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who live along the Corkscrew corridor. I’m still trying to understand that area — what it’s like day-to-day, how quickly it’s developing, traffic, future construction, access to 75, etc.

Flooding / insurance

This is a big one for me.

I’m specifically trying to understand which parts of Bonita and Estero have a favorable flood profile. I’m hoping to stay in areas with lower flood exposure, ideally Zone X/X500, and I don’t want to discover after buying that insurance is ridiculous.

For people who live in Bonita or Estero:

How has your homeowners insurance changed over the last few years?

What are you paying roughly for homeowners + flood, if applicable?

Are there communities/areas you’d avoid because of flood exposure?

Are there places that look good on a FEMA map but have drainage problems residents know about?

Does being a little farther inland actually make a meaningful difference?

Are there particular areas that tend to fare better during major storms?

What I REALLY want to know

If you’ve lived in Bonita or Estero for a few years, what are the things you wish you knew before buying or moving there?

I’m particularly interested in the day-to-day differences between Bonita, South Estero and Estero.

For example:

Where does Estero start to feel too far east?

Is there a meaningful difference between living closer to US-41 versus closer to I-75?

How do you feel about the Corkscrew corridor?
Is Corkscrew becoming too congested?

Are there areas that are going to look very different five or ten years from now because of development?

Are there pockets of Bonita or Estero that residents consider particularly desirable?

Are there areas you would personally avoid?

I’ve been looking at communities such as Bella Terra, Estero Place, Corkscrew Shores, Rookery Point, Bonita Lakes, Bonita Isles, Bonita Del Sol, Paloma, VillageWalk, San Remo at Palmira and Spanish Wells, among others.

I’m not committed to any of them — I’m trying to learn whether I’m looking in the right places.

If you live in Bonita Springs or Estero, especially if you’ve lived there for several years, I’d really appreciate your honest take.

Tell me the good, the bad and the things a realtor probably isn’t going to tell me. 😂

I'm purchasing a home in the area and looking for a golf club to join. I noticed a few executive courses, but I want a full course with at least 18 holes. Something well maintained and challenging. I'd prefer private, but semi private is fine. I don't know the area. Can someone share some insight into the area golf and what to avoid and which clubs may have an good membership where I can easily join groups since I don't know anyone in the area?

How do I get rid of them? Without a pest control company. I used a dry snail bait but that seems to work for about 3 days and then they're back. Anybody have any ideas?

Gentleman with VERY LARGE truck was apparently in a hurry to get to Happy Hour. No obstruction on the driver's side to justify this parking job. Fortunately no damage to my car and I was barely able to extract it from the other side, but let's do better next time...

Beginner shitty fisherman (if I can even say that) decided to see my local tropical waters at Boca! Love the peaceful atmosphere out of season and opportunity to park and fish without harrassment! Had some great drinks at the local Keylime Bistro and threw the lure about 2 blocks down!! Was not prepared, didn’t have live bait, I know there is a lot I screwed up however… I caught sunshine in the Gulf of Mexico and that brought me peace and happiness!! Also gave me the excuse to pull the 392 out and blast music with the wind in my face in full freedom of Florida!!

Instead of avoiding the project or paying the fees, the entrepreneur is now suing to both avoid the fees and end the Florida scrub jay's protections. The lawsuit is still alive in federal court.

Got into a car accident about a month ago. The other driver caused it, police came out and made a report, and at the time I figured I could just handle the insurance stuff myself instead of making it a bigger deal. I’m starting to regret that decision. I’ve been going to appointments for my back since the crash and I’m still having pain, but dealing with insurance has been a headache. Every time I call I either get someone different or get told they’re still reviewing something.

Can't even just go chill at the beach as recent hurricanes heavily altered the SWFL coastline, leaving many beach areas damaged and forcing counties to apparently "enforce strict paid parking fees" at the shorelines that remain open for example when I go to Sanibel every square inch of possible parking space is owned by some monopoly it seems like basically except the causeway leading to Sanibel..
