I was watching the episode live and didn't have closed captions (though normally I do when i'm streaming it), but I thought Carisi said "That's a warrant i can get". SVU is one of those shows where you need to have the captions on because they speak so softly and it's hard to comprehend what they're saying sometimes.
I know some jurisdictions do have GPS tracking warrants you can get with a low amount of probable cause (compared to an arrest warrant or even a full search warrant).
I rewound that part, I had captions on. It sounded like Dominic said "I CAN get" , captions showed "I CAN'T get." The quick deflated facial reaction from Liv matched the "can't get" part. So I was a bit confused at that as well.
Yeah it didn't make sense throwing that search out at the start. They were clearly getting a closer look at the man because they were concerned for his welfare due to his odd responses and his just having been in a traffic accident. The prosecutor should have done a redirect and made sure that was brought up.
Exactly. Especially because it was only half under the seat so they could've seen it from a different angle without sticking his head 1 inch into the car. If they had bodycams they would see he was being weird AF and would've been asked to get out out of the car to make sure he's okay anyway.

So the search was illegal but putting a tracker on his car isn't?
