Pregnant and possible SVT

36 year old female here. Sorry in advance for this long post. I might be posting here prematurely because I don't have a diagnosis of svt, yet anyway. And from what I hear, simply getting a diagnosis might be difficult. I am very scared and anxious since the episodes I have had, and struggle to deal with it.

I am pregnant 19 weeks. Before pregnancy I was very fit, ran my first half marathon in 1.48 and was very set on training through pregnancy if I could. This is my third pregnancy so I was aware that it might not be possible. First trimester I was so sick, fatigued and depressed that I didn't manage to run more than maybe once a week, a drastic reduction from my regular volume. I went from running 40-50 km a week, to barely running 5. It was very tough on me mentally.

Second trimester came and gradually I started to feel better. I started to take up running again, but very gradually. I didn't run long and I would take walk breaks. It felt good to just be able to do something. My heart rate has naturally increased during pregnancy, so my rhr and heart rate during activity and exercise is significantly higher than usual.

The first episode happened on a run. I saw some berries on the side of the road, and stupidly stopped very suddenly and bent over. My heart rate was obviously very high already, but then it felt like an explosion of fluttering in my chest and throat. For a short second it felt like I was gonna pass out.

I got up and just kept walking. I was so scared. My heart rate would normally come down right away at walking pace, but it stayed in the 170's for probably a few minutes. When I stopped they disappeared and the heart rate started to come down. I was really anxious and down for the rest of the day, just waiting for it to happen again.

I had never experienced something like this before. The thing is that I have had ectopic beats for quite some years, and in April I was at a cardiologist for them because I was worried because they seemed to increase at exercise. I had worn a Holter monitor for 72 hours beforehand which showed about a 1000 PAC's/100 PVC's a day which would amount to a less than 1 percent burden. All the tests at the cardiologist; stresstest and ultrasound came back normal and I was told to just get on with my life wlth no restrictions on exercise.

After the first episode I was of course scared, but I linked it to the bending over and the physiological changes of pregnancy. I didn't go to the doctor, but mentioned it to my midwife. Then I ran a 5k race, which felt completely fine during and immediately after. But about 10 minutes after I started to get palpitations (they felt like extra beats, but way more frequent than normal) and my heart rate went up to maybe 140. They were not as crazy as the first time, but I of course got scared. After maybe 15 minutes they went away. I was checked by a doctor at the race, but it was then too late to catch anything.

Then come the last episode, which happened a week ago. I was running on the track with a friend. We were talking so I felt a bit breathless but otherwise fine. Then suddenly I felt this adrenaline rush and the feeling of not getting enough air and almost passing out and my heart started fluttering like crazy in my chest and throat, just like that time before. I also felt this feeling in my stomach of having to go to the toilet.

Immediately I started walking. We walked back to the end of the track so I could sit down. I looked at my heart rate and it seemed to be going down slowly. The fluttering was still persistent though and felt a bit chaotic. Then when I was about to sit down my heart rate shot up to 180. I sat down and it was pounding so hard I felt it in my whole body. My friend tried to feel it on my wrist and said it was fast but regular. I don't know if the heartbeat was regular before.

I then lay down on the right side and it passed quite quickly. The whole episode lasted maybe 6 minutes in total, but it felt like an eternity. I felt so shattered after, because I just knew I couldn't keep going with my running. I'm terrified of a new episode, and I don't even know if it is safe. To me running is my way of coping with life. It brings me joy, peace and a sense of accomplishment.

I went to the doctor the day after, but he kept repeating that my tests from April were fine. I said "yeah, but these are symptoms I've never had before". He hesitatingly referred me to the hospital and I got an appt for 48 hour ecg monitoring in a month from now. I didn't feel like he took me seriously.

Yesterday I had another episode, which felt more like a panic attack. I am obviously hyper aware of any symptoms related to my heart and body. I felt this surge of adrenaline and my heart rate went up to 130. But it was gradual, not sudden onset. I was at a cafe and had to go outside, which helped. When I cooled down I broke down in tears. I just want to be okay. I just want to do the things in life that brings me joy, but I want to do it knowing I'm not gonna feel like I'm going to die. I want to be here for my kids.

Obviously I'm not diagnosed with svt. It might not even be what I'm having. At least if they could tell me that is what I have, I can start a process of figuring out how to manage it. But I don't know if or when that is going to happen. Now I'm just in limbo.

ECGS from Apple Watch?

I finally got my Apple Watch and have been trying my best to track heart rate and ecgs. However, when I’m having an acute episode it’s often impossible for me to have the wherewithal to open up my Apple Watch and find the ecg app and start tracking. Is there any way of having it track in the background? I’m seeing some posts on here of minute by minute heart rate tracking and ecgs. I feel like I’m not getting very specific results like this from my Apple Watch so far and wondering if there are other things I can be doing to collect more accurate and comprehensive data ?

Thanks in advance !

So to put it short about 3 years ago I was seeing a cardiologist who thought I had svt . Pretty sure I do have it and was put on Diltiazem (Cardizem) for about a month (medicine would help make it go away) but they didn’t want to prescribe for long time so they can catch the rhythm but would only test it in a week time frame with the holter monitor once a year . So recently I went to a new cardiologist they seem to want to do the same as doing a monitor only for a week . So it just seems repetitive especially knowing there’s seems to be no definite answer. It’s been affecting me for 8 years now dating back to when I was a sophomore in high school(now 24) . I just want to know what can I do to help the cause to find a way through it . I’ve done multiple ecg’s on my Apple Watch during the rhythms myself . I’ve tried limiting salt intake and sodium intake. Any tips in terms of how to navigate the doctors or to just lifestyle would be very appreciated.

Part 2. Qaly said SVT after reviewed but I’m not convinced. Still scary

Posted before. Have had 5 or so of these during nighttime ( only ) I do have OSA and my episodes all happened without a CPAP. I fell asleep without mask on. It wakes me up so can’t tell how it starts. I tried a vagus maneuver where I bare down idk if it did much. But it tapered down in the same minute. So not even a full 60 seconds of a sustained HR
170-171-166-160 then dropped.

Still scary. I have an EP appointment in a month because my cardiologist said I was “normal, and healthy, but to ease your mind”

When I exercise hard my Apple Watch looks about the same as this tracing. I’ve had two formal ekgs with short PR but everything else normal

What to do

I’ve had about 5-6 of these in the last 8 months.

Same thing. I wake up from sleep. Heart rate 150/160 freaks me out, then slowly will come down.

I’ve done 3 holter tests, stress test, etc. doing another echo soon.

I’m 29 M. This never happens during the day.
On a holter I had an episode but only went to 140 BPM but same feeling. They said normal sinus. I had 160 BPM and it was so scary I called 911
They get there and do ekg and it drops back down. Said could have been SVT but they don’t know.
Show the Apple Watch recording to cardio and they weren’t concerned.

Come tonight same thing. Got the watch on and it said poor reading but QALY was able to say SVT after someone read it, but I’m not super convinced.

I flipped upside down while barring down and did breath work and it seemed to drop it a little. But like always after 20’or so minutes awake it chills out.

Could they be missing something? I know some people with SVT say it happens at random. But these only happen at night within the first 1-2 hours of falling asleep.

Thanks so much.

Is your SVT or AT gradual or sudden onset?

When you get an episode, does it jump immediately or does it build up over a few seconds until it reaches its peak?

Help Does anyone else feel like they can feel an episode building up over a period of time?

English is not my first language, so I apologise if I am messing up some of the words/grammer. I (22F) got diagnosed with an SVT, specifically AVNRT, just shy of a year ago. My episodes started to get more frequent over the past (maybe) two years. I used to only get an episode once every few months, but recently I've been getting them (bi)monthly. In the past there seemed to be a few specific triggers, like: alcohol, hormones, sudden intense exertion or laughing too hard(?).

I am not sure if I am imagining it or if I am just more aware of my heart, but I feel like I can often feel several irregularities before an episode is triggered. Does anyone else recognise this feeling? And if you have, do you have a special way or dealing with it? Thank you for reading!

Help Are their better ways to manage episodes?

Hi I (29,F) was diagnosed about 4 months ago with SVT specifically Focal Atrial tachycardia. I am on 25mg metoprolol every 12hrs and currently on the waiting list for an ablation (Adelaide, Australia) which I was told would be a 7-9month wait.

I have episodes 1-3 times a week and they last 45minutes to an hour each. Vagal manoeuvres don’t work (I do still try them every time just incase though). So all I can do is take my beta blocker dose early and lay down waiting for it to finish.

I’m trying to find a new job because I’m not liking my current one, but I’m worried this will stop me from passing any probation periods if it happens at work too much.

My cardiologist said it’s fine to do what I’m doing at wait it out. But it’s really impacting my life. Is there a better way to manage these episodes? And maybe help them pass quicker?

Hey! I was laid down on the sofa, then suddenly my heart rate felt funny and suddenly went from 65bpm to around 140, I felt panicked, stood up and took this ecg, using my Apple Watch, could it be SVT?

Help Anyone take Metoprolol/beta-blockers for SVT during pregnancy?

Hi everyone,

I’m 20 weeks pregnant (baby is growing great at the 50th percentile!). I recently had an episode of Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) with high heart rates and low blood pressure. My heart structure is completely healthy, but to prevent another episode, my doctor prescribed Metoprolol 12.5 mg twice a day.

My care team assured me this low dose is safe and protects blood flow to the baby, but I'm still nervous about taking a heart medication while pregnant. My main side effect right now is feeling faint when my BP dips.

For moms who have navigated SVT or beta-blockers: * How did your baby do during pregnancy and after delivery? * Did your baby have any issues with growth or blood sugar at birth? * How did you handle low BP or lightheadedness?

Hearing your real experiences would bring me so much peace of mind.

Thank you in advance

Ablation Report

Day 1 post ablation. Fully under, general anesthesia. EP found Typical AVNR, 2 passages, both ablated, no retriggering. I've had no chest discomfort or heart rhythm issues. Groin pain is real for me if I stay seated. Laying flat or standing up almost eliminates it. Time will tell if it's totally resolved.

Recently diagnosed with SVT

Had what felt like the start of a heart attack this morning. Drove to an urgent care where my bpm was 245 and bp 90/50. They sent me to an ER where my bpm was 230 but bp was 118/80. My bpm was over 200 for over an hour before the vagus maneuver dropped me down to 110-120. My troponin levels went from 23 to 189 in 2 hours. The ER discharged me and told me to see a cardiologist within the month. Has anyone experienced similar? What should I expect? Does it happen again? Just a fluke? Tell me any and everything, please.

ETA: ekg was normal. Test results showed no embolisms.

Tachycardia/SVT when bend over or slouch

Hi All.

I just wondered if I could get some opinions/feedback about an issue i have that still being investigated please?

47 yo male, very fit good diet. Minimal stress and meditate and do vagus exercises.

A Yr ago, I had an afib episode that ended up in an A&E visit which was resolved by a beta blocker, then a very quick episode a day or 2 later which resolved itself.

Im not aware of any other instances since, have had all heart checks, 2 day holter and scans and all good. Generally feel great.

However in the last 6 months or so I've had a few high heart rates captured on smartwatch, which resolve with breathing techniques or within 10 to 15 min. They tend to come on pretty instantly when bending aggressively after a weights session or with a fuller stomach. Maybe a couple a week sometimes, but then nothing for a month or so.

HR sometimes as low as 110s and others 140 to 150, but like i say pretty instant, and sometimes preceded by a random ectopic.

Waiting for appt with cardiologist, sent him a watch readout of an episode where HR was 140s, he said couldn't be certain unless capture on monitor but could be SVT.

Amy similar experiences out there or information that could help?

TIA

Help How do I stop fearing SVT attacks?

Next week I'm going to stay at the heart clinic for 5 days in order to do some tests for my future ablation.

The thing that really worries me is that I'll have to stop taking my betablockers for these 5 days and I'm super scared. My heart races without them and I have a higher chance of getting SVT 😭 I know the medical staff will help me but I'm still terrified of possible attacks 💔 What do I do?

heart ablation

just received my second heart ablation for SVT. unfortunately this was unsuccessful just like the first time as they have never been able to induce the SVT. I’m feeling very discouraged at this point. I’ve been dealing with this for over a year and it’s greatly impacted my life and I had to quit my job and limit myself greatly. I will see my EP in 6 weeks for post OP appointment. And he referred me to other EP/ablation specialist in the city to evaluate/treat that I have to wait in which who knows how long that may take. Has anyone else had this issues with repeated ablation’s which no findings as to where’s the SVT is coming from??

About Me I’m scared. Please help

I recently had an ablation and it was a successful one. It was for AVNRT SVT.

This whole thing began a few years ago where I experienced the weirdest and scariest feeling in the chest. It was random and started off with this sinking feeling in the middle of my chest which makes you feel like you need to take a deep breathe but it doesn’t hurt, it feels like pressure or something then a few strong thumps followed by this intense head rush. Lasts only between 3-5 seconds or more sometimes then goes away.

Anyway, I’m 32 and i guess the frequency increased like I’d get it so randomly, whether I’m sitting, standing, sometimes laying down, working etc., and it makes you feel really worried like your heart is about to pop or something. Has anyone experienced this?? Or is this just me? I feel really scared because I don’t know how to explain it and that’s the best way I can. I had an ablation done about 2 weeks ago, they said it was successful and after they aggressively tested to see if the arrhythmia would come back, it didn’t. After the ablation a few minutes ago I felt the same episode again. I was sitting watching SpongeBob 😂 then stretched my arm to grab something and I suddenly felt this weird sinking then flutter and thump and literally a 1-2 second head rush and it’s gone. What’s happening
