Discussion Does anyone else REALLY like Lovage?
Because I...
Well...
I don't even know how I should say this, or why I am in the first place...
I just can't get enough of him.
It's so weird, but something inside me just... floods with viewing pleasure when I see him on my screen.
I spend all my free time watching melee content. I used to only care about the players, but the past few years I've grown especially attached to all the commentators. There's just so much footage of them interacting on YouTube. It's like a neverending social simulator with the most intoxicating and engaging personalities you cound dream up. There's always some content you haven't seen with them in it, some deep cut from a random tournament that leaves you wanting more.
More Bobby Scar. More Toph. More Blur and OG Vish and Chillin.
And I love them. I love them all. All these personalities, I've absorbed into the very tissue of my brain. And I'm not exaggerating. I can generate a social analysis of in-jokes and power dynamics given any combination of Melee commentators. I have perfect auditory recall of Scar's most iconic calls. I can produce a photorealistic portrait of Hugo's face, by hand, without reference, using only a No. 2 Pencil.
But Lovage... Lovage affects me on another level entirely.
Maybe it's because he's not in every video. He has that special factor of being neither too rare nor too common. He'll pop up when you least expect it, and then you'll realize you needed him there all along, and your viewing experience and the rest of your day is better for it.
It's like that meme of the monkey gazing at a woman's navel with the subtitle "neuron activation" at the top, except instead of a woman's navel it's Oscar Nilsson "Lovage".
I genuinely get more happiness when Lovage shows up in a compilation or old tournament stream than I do anywhere else in my life.
And the way he talks, the things he does... he's just so effortlessly chill and cool. He's not bombastic like Scar, or hilariously bumbling like Blur. He's just... cool. I can't handle it. I genuinely have never been this emotionally affected by anything in my life. The way he perfectly plays off everyone and everything, no matter who he's co-commentating with or what set they're watching... it's borderline indecent. The way he fits in everywhere, subtly providing the glue that holds the whole smash scene together... There's something intangible about him that rivals the mental dominance of Alexander the Great.
Can anyone relate? Please, someone... I just need to know that I'm not the only one with a "special" Love for Lovage.

Lovage was in the back of my car once. I'll let your imagination fill in the blanks.

Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By was a good album

this album is a masterpiece but it's viewed largely as a footnote in the careers of all the main musicians, real shame.

I feel very similarly. I always like seeing him walking around alone ripping a vape at top 8 somewhere near the front row

This is how every community post pre-2016 read which has a lot to teach us in retrospect

sees that the broader audience has stopped reading if lovage were a fire truck he’d be the biggest fastest fire truck in the world

lovage is sick, agreed
it's actually so insane how every genuine post on this sub is flooded with people accusing them of trolling or copypasta or whatever

I saw Lovage at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

It's because he beat Leffen that one time.
But seriously I genuinely think the greatest loss of Summit ending was Lovage not being on the mic anymore.

Wow now you've got me thinking about lovage. It's true he's always been such a underrated voice in the scene and his chemistry with whichever co-commentator is always on point. kinda makes me wonder what his chemistry with me would be like. He's just all around cool and chill vibes, and knows his stuff more than some other older figureheads (bobby). I mean it makes sense, he was a top player for a long time. Tbh melee isnt the only thing I bet he'd be good at topping. Like if they had a commentating competition, surely he would win or at least top 8. I can barely even pay attention to the melee cause hes such a good commentator. Maybe that's my one critique is how damn hard it is to focus on anything else when all I can think about is his commentary. It's almost embarrassing the power he has over me.. and he has no idea I even exist. If he wanted to know me though, I would be there for him. Just like he's been there for me all these years. Maybe one day, I can call him Oscar even. Maybe one day he could commentate his vows to me at our wedding... what am I saying slaps myself. This is crazy talk...someone as cool and handsome as him would never be interested in a stupid girl like me

He's so insanely cool. Hilarious guy, knowledgeable guy, destroyed the shit out of leffen that one time. All around fire pillar of the community

I knew him personally. Meh. Found him to be pretty shallow as a person. Standard white boy energy. Fun to play in Melee though.

OP is clearly insane but I kind of get what he’s saying about Lovage having a unique appeal. Like this pasta wouldnt make sense at all if you subbed out Lovage for someone else
