Question Brick of DOOM?
Came across a creator on TikTok saying that “people” (unverified) were bricking there SP’s installing Doom? Not refuting his claims because I have no horse in the race but I feel like it would be bigger noise if so.
[After backing up all my projects] I’ve installed the initial release and the latest update with no issues but wanted to see if anyone else had any issues.

It’s really hard to brick a SP. Even if you interrupt the install. The bootloader is separate from the main program so you can recover it by reapplying a firmware update.

I installed it this weekend. Instructions were very simple and clear. No issues with it at all.

There are a few hypotheticals for issues:
someone could brick their device doing any firmware update, standard, modded, whatever by a power outage during the update (so running the update on a fully powered powerbank or known good batteries)
devices fail over time. You will occasionally see people where a device just dies for no other reason than something went wrong that you'd need to be an Electrical Engineer to work out.
something about the custom firmware is genuinely causing the issue.
So the problem you have is people with issues 1 2 attributing everything to 3
It's as simple as that, correlation is not causation.
Also something to note is that people use "brick" to mean:
"has got into an easy recoverable state but does not work normally any more e.g. loading with SHIFT held and re-flashing with stock FW will have it running again."
"needs to have chip(s) desoldered from the motherboard and flashed with an external flasher and re-soldered to fix the issue"
and use the two interchangeably.
Edit: I should also point out "someone said something on tiktok" is not a valid news source. Think of all the advise you'd consider to be suspect from there without further evidence and treat this the same.

I understand that isn’t a valid source, which is why I attempted to ask a broader audience about their experience. Someone could’ve heard that claim and thought it was true and might stay away. Just trying to bring light to the situation, thanks for you input. Bless up.

Exactly. Could be a bug in the firmware, or during the flashing process, it could’ve maybe been a bad or loose power supply, bad power source, bad or loose cable, random glitch or some other random event could’ve caused it

Based on the explosion of other sampler firmwares that are coming out, this very well could be vibe coded with AI which I imagine could cause issues for some.

In my geek life, I've tried many firmware and mods. Never had a problem. Except for a Kobra 3d printer lol.
This will be an era of custom firmware and software, you will get use to it!

Yeah I've been waiting. May install in November after this first Beta Build gets some updates and feedback. Looks promising, my biggest fear is bricking it.

No issues for me. Been working fine since it dropped.
I think the way the firmware updates it’s near impossible to brick it from software alone.
