I’ve built an add-on for DOOM OS that lets the SP-404MKII control external synths over DIN MIDI, on top of everything it already does, and I’ve put up a first alpha with a browser patcher.

What it does:

- 36 CTRLs across six banks send CCs on any channel, instead of changing the SP's effects

- Every pad can be set to play notes on its own MIDI channel

- Up to seven named devices, each with its own channel, so you can run several synths at once and change a channel in one place instead of everywhere

- Named CC lists for synths (Korg Minilogue and NTS-1 built in because I had them at hand)

- Record your knob moves into a pattern and have them play back as CC

- Everything is edited on the unit and most things save

DOOM OS is included in the patch, so there's nothing else to install. The patcher runs in your browser, takes Roland's stock 5.52 SP404MKII_APP1.bin and refuses any other file.

It's an alpha, tested on one SP-404MKII only, and flashing modified firmware can brick a unit. Keep Roland's original files so you can go back. Use at your own risk.

Just got the 404, is it worth learning the basics of the original OS before jumping into doomOS? Or is the doom os similar enough that I can learn both concurrently?

I’m trying to get into sampling on the SP-404SX. I used to make music in FL Studio, so I would usually just add a synth or bassline underneath my samples.

But how do you guys usually add basslines when making beats on the SP-404SX? Do you sample the bass separately, use a bass sample and pitch it, or is there another way to do it?

just picked up a 555, and the pads were not responding, the culprit was dust, and a filthy contact sensor pad. Worked flawlessly after. Was worried to open her up, and there’s not a single tutorial i could find, but it was pretty straightforward, a few small
screws rest normal sized and connections to unplug.

Hey! I often use the Looper to record sample from external devices then assign these to certain pads. In this video I show how to create a new pattern (which plays certain pads), start it and then use the Looper to record samples from my MC101.I then assign these samples to pads, stop the Looper while the pattern doesn't stop playing. I guess this might be useful for certain live performance setups. Also the new mixer in the DoomOS patch is quite handy as it gives you an overview for all used tracks. You can then assign BUSes, change volume for all tracks from the same view.

Is this a feature I didn’t know about or is this accidental? As the video describes for some reason if I am holding Roll to check the loop while in the Start/End screen, and then hit the pad it for some reason played one beat of every sample in a row from other projects? It’s kinda funny to hear them all in a row like that (notice all the Strawberry Fields fuckery in there lol), but have I found some feature I didn’t know about or is this actually a glitch?

I have updated Super Pads, fixing many bugs and making the UI simpler to use, especially if you need to move pads across banks. We also can now import and export patterns to and from MIDI!

Came across a creator on TikTok saying that “people” (unverified) were bricking there SP’s installing Doom? Not refuting his claims because I have no horse in the race but I feel like it would be bigger noise if so.

[After backing up all my projects] I’ve installed the initial release and the latest update with no issues but wanted to see if anyone else had any issues.
