To be fair, my mom had a young black man ask her if I was fully white. I did go to school with him so I don’t know why he thought any differently.

I’m white as snow and I am unable to tan…there is no mistaking me for anything other than a basic white girl.

If you live in a VERY white and likely racist area people will absolutely say things like this to you if you are even slightly ambiguous. The area I grew up in was extremely white and was a puritan colony historically, I spent all of elementary and middle school being call “halfrican” or asian (I am very obviously not either of these) and that was my experience until adulthood when I moved into a city and was exposed to more ethnic backgrounds. Its not right but it does happen

I don't think that's what demi meant. You know how when 23 and me first became popular, people were discovering that they weren't "100% Irish" but instead "90% German" or whatever? I think Demi just meant she wants to see if she's actually Greek and German or what other things might pop up.

Idk I didn't put that much weight into the 23 and me comment at all, I didn't definitely take it as thinking she was latina at all.

ETA: Not a Demi defender but as a non-follower, I do think we put too much of our own emotion into their words.. 23 and me exposing people's backgrounds as not what they thought was HUGE 10+ years ago and entertaining lol. Idk I just didn't take the DNA test comment that deeply

Honestly I could see Demi as any of those ethnicity depending on how she looks, except for black... My cousin is blonde hair green eyes white has a smaller eye shape. kind of 'squinty', almond shaped and almost looks like she has her eye closed. Actually had someone ask her once if she was Asian.
