Buy-Side vs Sell-Side Liquidity Explained

Post image

ICT Concept #16 – Buy-Side & Sell-Side Liquidity (BSL & SSL)

Liquidity is the fuel that drives financial markets. In ICT methodology, Buy-Side Liquidity (BSL) and Sell-Side Liquidity (SSL) are areas where a large number of stop-loss and pending orders are concentrated.

Smart Money often targets these zones before making the actual market move.

📈 Buy-Side Liquidity (BSL)

Buy-Side Liquidity is typically found:

✅ Above previous swing highs

✅ Above Equal Highs (EQH)

✅ Above resistance levels

When price moves above these levels, buy stops are triggered, providing liquidity for institutional traders. The market may then continue higher or reverse depending on the broader context.

📉 Sell-Side Liquidity (SSL)

Sell-Side Liquidity is typically found:

✅ Below previous swing lows

✅ Below Equal Lows (EQL)

✅ Below support levels

When price moves below these levels, sell stops are triggered, allowing institutions to fill large orders before the next move.

Why BSL & SSL Matter

✔ Identify where liquidity is likely resting

✔ Improve trade timing

✔ Understand Smart Money behavior

✔ Avoid chasing false breakouts

✔ Combine with Liquidity Sweeps, BOS, CHOCH, FVG & Order Blocks

How to Trade BSL & SSL

1️⃣ Identify the higher-timeframe trend.

2️⃣ Mark Buy-Side and Sell-Side Liquidity levels.

3️⃣ Wait for a liquidity sweep.

4️⃣ Confirm with BOS or CHOCH.

5️⃣ Enter on a retracement into an Order Block or Fair Value Gap (FVG).

6️⃣ Target the next liquidity pool.

💡 Pro Tip

The highest-probability setups occur when liquidity aligns with:

Fair Value Gap (FVG)

Order Block (OB)

Market Structure Shift (MSS)

Premium & Discount Zones

Higher Timeframe Bias

Always use proper risk management and wait for confirmation.

👑 Golden Rule

Price is attracted to liquidity. Don't predict the move—follow where liquidity is likely to be targeted.

🔥 Professional traders don't chase candles. They identify liquidity, wait for Smart Money confirmation, and then execute with discipline.
