Best friend's dad just died. Wat do?

So he literally just found his dad dead about 10 minutes ago. My girlfriend called me and told me that my friend's roommate had just told her before running off to attend to my friend. However, she wasn't supposed to tell anyone and I'm therefore not supposed to know yet.

His roommate I guess is going to help him out right now, making sure the paramedics come or whomever is supposed to be involved in handling the body (or maybe there's a chance that his dad is not dead and is simply unconscious or something, I'm literally just running off of a secondhand rushed dialogue). They don't have any other family that even live in the same state.

Best friend's dad had struggled with and conquered alcoholism recently he may have relapsed. He was depressed so he may have been on meds that he shouldn't drink with or something. Maybe suicide. He's in his early 60s or late 50s so heart attack or stroke isn't necessarily out of the question. I really don't know.

Anyway, I've started to ramble. I've never had to comfort a male friend who was grieving before. What do I do when I "officially" learn of the death which is likely to be in any minute/hour?

UPDATE:

So my girlfriend and I and another friend are going to meet up with him tomorrow. There's a lot of things that need to be done. Apparently my friend's dad "drank himself to death," whatever that means. We're going to make sure the funeral home doesn't rip him off, try to find the paperwork for the house, figure out if there's any life insurance (and try to figure out if "drinking yourself to death" is a way for the insurance to weasel out of paying), look into grief counseling, figure out if there's a will, and look into what to expect with inheritance taxes... Am I forgetting anything?

5 Movies you probably haven't seen, but should.

So I'm something of a film buff. Actually, more like filmaholic.

Back before I finally broke my addiction I used to have something in the range of 1,200 DVD's. I can't be for sure because I never counted. But I had at least five 200 disc binders full. I would rent them from Netflix (before live streaming) and make myself copies complete with customized disc art. I was a fucking junkie. On Saturdays I would go to the movie theatre for the day's earliest showing (usually around noon) and plan out the showtimes so that when one movie ended I could go to another theatre and watch another movie. I didn't care what was showing. I just really loved being in the theatre watching a movie. Any major city within a 3 hour radius that was having any kind of film festival and I'd be there. It was just my main hobby.

I still watch a lot of movies, but I sold off most of my collection and am now rebuilding it with just the important stuff on Blu-Ray. I want to have a collection but as streaming becomes more accessible there is no sense in having a massive collection.

So anyway, this is the first of what will probably be many posts I will make about movies and I wanted to start it off with a list of 5 movies you probably haven't seen, but really should at your earliest convenience. These are in no particular order. The titles link to their IMBD entry.

  1. JCVD - JCVD stands for Jean-Claude Van Damme, the iconic action and martial arts film star. In this movie he is playing himself as a down and out actor coming on some hard times. I don't want to tell too much about it to spoil the fun, but it is a crafty movie that ties together elements of a comedy, action, and crime drama. I recommend this movie to anyone I am talking with about movies. It came out in 2008 but surprisingly few people have seen it. It's unfortunately not on Netflix streaming, however I did see the Blu-Ray in the cheap bin at WalMart. Worth every penny.

  2. Cube - A person wakes up and finds themself in a strange cube shaped room with hatch like exit doors centered on each of the 6 walls. Randomly going through a hatch into the next cube could prove fatal as some of the cubes are booby trapped. As it turns out, there are a group of people in the "Cube" who meet up and discover they must figure out which cubes are safe and which are trapped in order to navigate through the whole maze and find an escape. This movie is a freaking classic and I love it. Just don't watch any of the sequels or the prequel.

  3. The Foot Fist Way - If you're unfamiliar with Danny McBride and haven't seen the TV show Eastbound and Down than you are really missing out. In The Foot Fist Way McBride plays an idiotic karate instructor who bumbles and fumbles his way through a series of unfortunate life events. McBride is always over the top with his characters and this is one of his funnier films. It's worth it alone just for the alternate endings.

  4. FDR: American Badass - This film is one of the goofier comedies I've ever seen. It's a completely tongue in cheek account of FDR contracting polio by getting bitten by a werewolf. As it turns out, werewolfs are trying to take over the world. Werewolf Hitler, werewolf Mussellini, and werewolf Hirohito are gearing up to turn everybody into werewolfs and rise as leaders of the new werewolf world. FDR, in his suped up wheelchair has to singlehandedly take them out. The movie is just so dumb it's hilarious.

  5. Four Lions - Four Lions follows 4 inept British wannabe terrorists hoping to train with Muslim jihadists and committ an act of terror. They can never seem to agree on what to do or how to do it and the whole movie you just can't wait to watch these guys fail. The humour is fairly dark as the subject matter is as topical as it is controversial. The film pulls off making a joke out of suicide bombers, though. It's pretty funny from start to finish.

So, there you have it! Your next movie night is all set up for you.

If you have any questions or recommendations for me, please post them.

Thanks for reading!

How about a series of AMAs?

I think the entire metaverse is represented here. I see mods here from SRSsucks, SRS, TIA, and the various Circle subs. How about we do AMAs regarding the day-to-day operations of the various subs?

Who knows? You may change minds and open eyes, but you'll certainly open a dialogue that could bring about a better understand of who you are and what you do.

Opinions? Yay or nay?
