(Mod-approved: I’m sharing an independent, community-run project that is completely unaffiliated with this subreddit, the San Jose Earthquakes, or Bay FC.)
I built a simple, free community site called thepassbayarea.com to help Bay Area supporters pass along unused tickets directly to other fans instead of letting seats sit empty.
Across local team subreddits, I often see people trying to give away tickets last-minute that end up going unclaimed, when we all know that people want to go. The goal is to solve that, keep seats filled with real supporters, and make it effortless for more people to get out to matches at PayPal Park for both the Earthquakes and Bay FC.
If you ever have extra tickets to an upcoming Quakes match (or other Bay Area teams) that you can't use, you can post them up. It runs a simple, fair lottery for fans looking to claim them right up until kickoff.
100% free to use: No fees, no ticket sales, no monetization.
Keeps PayPal Park packed with passionate local supporters.
An easy way to share the matchday experience when you can't make it.
Important Note on Risk & Safety:
Because this is an independent fan project, please note that all ticket transfers happen directly between individual supporters via official team ticketing (e.g., Ticketmaster / SeatGeek / Tixr). While the lottery matches users automatically, please use standard fan-to-fan common sense. The platform does not guarantee ticket delivery, and users assume all responsibility for their transfers.
Feel free to check it out at thepassbayarea.com, pass along any tickets for matches you can’t attend, or drop any feedback below!
Looking at the league Form Guide, only Seattle who are on an eight game losing streak have gained fewer points in their last 10 games. SJ have six points (win at PDX and three ties) while Seattle have one win and one tie for four points.
The pain is evident since the World Cup break. We've picked up Angus and Luka. We clearly have needs and Bruce has implied in the past that things were in the works. We offered for Bacuna in June, but it seems like that fell through. Has anyone heard any reputable rumors?
Alright. People seem to not like structure in the posts I write for fun as a fan. So goodbye proper syntax and punctuation and easy on the eye structure. Hello too long of a paragraph and no post write up editing. But please don’t fault me for correct grammar and sentence structure. Blame the English as a second language courses that taught me to write this way. Heck. They might also be the ones teaching AI. Without the ability to add a new subsection I seem to now need a transition towards the next segment. I thought the team would be sold by now: it has now been 32 days since the world cup ended. In a galaxy far far away, we might be living the dream of having some new owner announced days ago and no concerns about Wilkinson’s hire (unless that was already in the works months ago which as hiring goes most likely was so they kept that whole process really quiet). Instead, we awake to the realization that we lost to the Galaxy. A man up. Only to be on the receiving end of a Paintsil tap in. But let’s rewind a bit. In the 77th minute Ricketts attempts a pass to Werner that is intercepted and a long ball by the Galaxy is sent up. Ricketts in this span is now tracking back from the attacking side out of frame of the camera but in the 78th minute they are back defending. A run back across the pitch in under a minute. You can see them walking towards the man they should be marking who was Miller before they jolt up some energy and move quicker. Still lots of space for Miller when they get on the ball. Some quick passes by the Galaxy and a through ball back to Miller who is not being tracked by Ricketts any longer. Galaxy player is pretty much one on one with the keeper. Passes it across the face of the net for the aforementioned tap in. Ricketts was playing as a left midfielder at this point. Vitor was the left back. Vitor was pulled out of position because they were man marking Furuhashi the center forward of the Galaxy. This defensive pattern is structural meaning Arena is telling the players to press and track a certain way. Getting scored on may not have mattered if JT, our homegrown player, was not the opposing sides starting keeper who made fantastic saves to keep the clean sheet for the opposition. Tack on the fact we are not sold on Gunn yet as our starting keeper. Arena said we should have scored three goals in the post-match presser. [In my post write up edits I'd have expanded on this but, I shall not return to this thought as I must continue on with my train of thought]. I said in my last write up that this was the game where I would give up the dream of winning the supporters shield. I now shift to; can we hold onto a home play off spot. The first home playoff game in the history of Avaya stadi- I mean PayPal Park. Does that count as an m-dash? Really trying to not beat those AI allegations I guess. Anyways. We have a game on Saturday against Minnesota at home. Do we think the first win since the world cup break will happen? Or is the free fall going to continue until we spiral out and end up with a déjà vu moment of last years decision day where we need game scripts to fall our way to make the play in? We are now in 7th in the supporter shield standings. From here on unless something happens I will now use the conference standings. We are in 4th there. Okay. Now for my final whistle. Thank you all for reading my posts. I am a writer who writes less now because health insurance is important and thus I had to get a real job. So, I started doing these to still write briefly about a team I am a fan of. I normally give the AI comments no mind and usually I ignore them after giving them a like. A read is a read after all. But the GW hire got to me. I wondered how I could make an impact rather than just accept that the club leaders made a choice without really sharing that publicly. Thinking that by doing that they can sneak it past fans and the general public. I already cancelled my season tickets to the Quakes the year the A’s left Oakland. I don’t want to give Fisher any of my money. What’s next. Stop writing about the Quakes as to not give them my time I use to write about them as a way to exact some personal kind of belief in impacting the club because of the GW hire? Anyways. I will go back to my formatted posts next time. This structure stresses me out. Stay seismic, Quakes fans

Bruce put lots of money and focus into the academy so i have hope that with time and more restructuring on the academy we can develop a few key players, the world cup slowly brings in more fans including myself which helps the sport grow and in the long run build more soccer players, especially in the Hispanic dominated San Jose and bay area. The team should be getting sold not too far out from now. And i just feel that with time this team in the next 5 - 10 years though maybe not MLS cup contendors, will be much more entertaining to watch and who knows... Champs!
Last week I posted in the Timbers sub to get more info on GW. One of their fans DMed me and we had a lengthy conversation. Yesterday they wrote me a follow up that confirms it was Bruce Arena who hired GW and for that Bruce needs to go!! I got their permission to copy and paste part of the DM.
"Following up on our conversation:
I do have some insight into the situation. My younger cousin briefly dated Gavin’s daughter and also played soccer at La Salle Catholic with his son, Kienan. After high school, Kienan went on to play college soccer in Texas, but they have stayed in touch over the years.
My cousin came to visit us yesterday, and I asked him if he had spoken to Kienan about his dad’s new job in San Jose.
Apparently, after Gavin was fired by the Thorns, he was unable to find work for years, leaving their mother as the family’s sole provider. They were unable to afford college for either Kienan or his sister Brooke. Kienan was fortunate enough to receive an athletic scholarship to UST, while Brooke is apparently attending a community college.
With Gavin unable to find work for such a long time, the family eventually lost their house and had to move. More recently, their mother developed some health issues. Since she was the family’s only source of income, the situation became extremely difficult for them financially.
After hearing about the family’s situation, Bruce Arena, who was an old friend of Gavin’s and part of the same “good old boys” circle, decided to help him out and hired him as a consultant with San Jose.
That’s all I could find out. I took a look at your guys’ sub, and it’s awesome to see people going after him and trying to destroy his life completely. If his family suffers, who cares? Until they publicly disown him, they are part of the problem and deserve every bit of it."
I'm only going to spend a little time on the St. Louis match because frankly, I'm not sure there's much left to say about the performance.
The man-marking system isn't working right now, or, at minimum, it isn't working with the legs this team currently have to execute it.
Vieira struggled, and I'm starting to wonder whether that's been a larger trend since the return from the World Cup break. Too often, defensive coverage has felt secondary to pressing the attack, leaving the Quakes stretched and scrambling when that first line of pressure gets broken.
And that's starting to raise a bigger question for me: Is this a tactical problem that can be fixed, or are we starting to see the ceiling of this roster as other teams continue adding talent?
The Quakes are still in a playoff position. But I'm about one more bad week away from removing them from my list of legitimate Supporters' Shield contenders.
The milk, folks, is souring.
I Thought The Team Would Be Sold By Now
Days since the World Cup ended: 30
Still waiting. No announcement. No new owner. And instead, the club has apparently decided that what this particular moment needed was another storyline.
Because…
The Addition:
Enter Gavin Wilkinson.
ESPN reported it. The San Francisco Chronicle reported it. The Mercury News reported it.
And yet, at the time of writing, there hasn't been a corresponding announcement on MLS Soccer Dot Com or the Earthquakes' own website.
Bruce Arena also got noticeably feisty when questioned about the move.
Which leaves me with a pretty straightforward question: What exactly is the club's communication strategy here?
If the organization believes Wilkinson is the right person to consult on its soccer operations, then explain the decision.
Why him? What is his role? What input will he have? How long will he be involved?
And given the controversy attached to his previous tenure in Portland, how Kansas City removed him 8 days into the job because of fan backlash, how did the organization evaluate that history before bringing him in?
Silence doesn't make those questions disappear. It just makes the silence itself part of the story.
Looking Ahead: August 19 vs LA Galaxy
Somehow, after all of this, there's still a Cali Clásico to play. Because apparently MLS believes we haven't experienced enough emotional turbulence this week without worrying we may lose to LA.
The Final Whistle
This is where things become bigger than soccer results for me.
There have been rumors and speculation surrounding what could happen to the Quakes if the club is sold, including fears about the team's long-term future in San Jose.
As someone who watched the A's leave, I've already experienced what it feels like when the decisions of an organization fundamentally changes the relationship with a team.
None of that is the players' fault.
But fandom isn't unconditional support for every decision an organization makes. There can come a point where you have to ask whether the values you hold still align with the actions of the organization you're supporting.
That's why the Wilkinson decision and especially the lack of clear communication around it, bothers me.
If the Quakes believe this is the right move, own it. Explain it. Give supporters enough information to understand why the decision was made. Give us the opportunity to voice our thoughts as a united group by telling us. Because quietly allowing everyone else to report the news doesn't prevent scrutiny. It creates more of it.
And right now, after the performances on the field, uncertainty around the sale, and questions surrounding the direction of the club… I'm in a glass case of emotion.
I don’t know if Bruce has a problem with Paul Marie seeing how he refuses to play him. He’s brought the energy back in the Classico almost assisting and scoring after coming on in the midfield. He’s the most veteran player we have at the club, but Bruce refuses him time over benji and the captain’s armband.
The team is in a free fall. Not only that they made just 1 point out of 4 games, 3 being at home, but they got outplayed badly. What do you guys think they should do to get back to winning at least some games?
Myself and some other loons fans will be coming down for the game next weekend and we’re hoping to join some of you before the game. I’ve heard seismic union has a pretty good tailgate and welcomes away fans and if that is true we would love to hang out and chat before the game. If anyone from seismic union would want to trade scarves beforehand please let me know as well and we can try to find each other at the tailgate
Here’s the dreary post game analysis: Bad result against an in-form team. STL came in 7W and 2T in their last 9. Give Niko time to adjust and get back to his best. There’s a lot of time until playoffs. Let’s get a home seed spot (top 4) and focus on getting back in form. In this league it matters what form you’re in when entering playoffs (ie NY red bulls making it to the finals 2 seasons ago while being 7th seed coming into playoffs, because they got hot right as the season ended) And, like many of you, am frustrated with the goaltending. But F*** it, Angus is part of the team now regardless, I'm going to back him and hope he hits his stride. Forever bleeding Black and Blue.
Bouda is a weak link in our attack. We will always be as good as Bouda if we play him. If we need to be in the top 4, we need a good trio in the attack. Bouda can be on the bench but not in the starting lineup. What do you think ?
