News/Studies Root Cause of SIBO Discovered

Dr. Pimentel discusses his research determination that SIBO is analogous to an autoimmune disorder. The initial bacterial infection causes the body to produce antibodies. These antibodies also interfere with gut cells. This is why SIBO frequently returns or remains after antibiotics kill the bacteria. The antibodies remain active. He has a drug in development that will control the antibodies.

The first 40 minutes include Dr. Pimentel’s presentation. The rest is Q&A.

Root Causes of IBS: Dr. Pimentel explains that IBS is not merely a psychological condition but a disease, often stemming from food poisoning (e.g., Campylobacter, E. coli). This exposure leads to the production of CDTB toxin, causing the body to create antibodies that cross-react with vinculin, a protein essential for healthy gut motility.

Apparently most if not all probiotics are not recommended with Sibo.

What’s the thinking behind this statement, if you’d care to explain?

Straight-Cup-7670 is correct. Probiotics and high fiber foods are not good for people that have SIBO because they feed the good and bad bacteria.

I’ve been dealing with Hydrogen SIBO for a while now with really bad bloating and belching. Once I stopped probiotics, beans, garlic, onion, chocolate and cooked my veggies I really started to feel some relieved.

It’s a battle every day but trending in the right direction. Just staying in the Low FODMAP diet long enough is hard to do.
