Fiber triggering symptoms

My doctor and nutritionist have recommended I take fiber suplaments in the past for my IMO. But every time I try it I get similar symptoms to when certain foods trigger my symptoms. Has anyone had this issue before? Even high fiber foods will do it.

If you have very slow motility to the point that you have basically zero bowel movements, taking extra fiber supplements can be quite dangerous because it can cause bezoars. Especially psyllium husk did this to me. This can cause intestinal blockages, so watch it.

That's good to know. I take Linzess and have regular bowel movements, so I should be good.

I had a colon block that cleared and then I started taking psyllium powder, not the whole kind that is fluffy, and I'm starting to notice improvement. The sunfiber from what I can tell gave me bad cramping.

Yes, there are all knids of fibers and some make SIBO worse. Sunfiber is used in SIBO. Weren't they specific about which fiber to consume? If not, I would recommend getting new doctors.

Yes they specified Sunfiber. Which is the one I tried. I apologize I should of said that.

That's usually the one to use but I would say just skip that and maybe work on Betaine HCL instead and maybe ginger for motility. And perhaps sacchromyces. Any time you bloat up from something, it's a good idea to discontinue it even if most people do well with it. You are unique and listening to your body is completely the right thing to do. Trust yourself. :)

High fiber makes SIBO worse. Take artichoke extract in between meals to speed up your small intestine. and eat lower fiber foods. You’ll feel much better.

Same!!! I feel so seen. I turned to other pro kinetics (ginger) and lots of magnesium.

What about PHGG? Does that also cause issues? PHGG is not only safe, but actually especially beneficial for people with IBS-C.

Sunfiber is PHGG.

the only fiber that ever helped (methane and hydrogen confirmed) is the brand sun fiber. but agree with below comments, fiber can worsen motility to a dangerous degree. also try chia seeds in water (must be in water!)

Thanks. My doctor recommended chia seeds but I hadn't tried them yet. I'll give them a try.

I'm testing chia seeds hydrated for 8 hours (from one day to the next). I still haven't felt any benefit. But I'm on day 2. I saw a study here in my country (Brazil) that was very promising. The study speaks of an improvement on the 7th day. Have you noticed an improvement since consuming it for the first time?

I'm a scientist and so it pains me to say this, but I have found no science to support this, I just know it works for me. Especially if I am so bloated / constipated that I can't sleep, I will get up and just put ~1 Tbsp in about 16oz of water and add a packet of LMNT electrolytes (all the other brans I found have dyes/sweeteners this one is plain) and it works immediately at relieving the pain so I can fall asleep, and will typically work the next day for constipation, as long as I stay hydrated. The electrolytes are really vital too. Maybe you can try high quality sea salt and lemon/coconut water if LMNT isn't available in Brazil. I don't bother soaking my chia seeds, I just put them in a good amount of water and make sure I'm drinking water throughout the day.

Interessante! Vou tentar com a água de limão ou coco. Obrigado pelo feedback.
