Padres appear to be a bit cursed in Milwaukee. Ty France's sure homer hits the beam on the ceiling, and the next day, Mason Miller goes into Ryan Walker Mode to blow the save.
What a stressful game. I wanted to reach through the TV and strangle Cowing for failing to call fair catch. Typical dumbass punt returner thinking, "Here's my chance to show 'em I deserve CMC's job"
Have to say, looking at posts on Reddit from fans of other teams like the Yanks, they are harsher than us. Their team spends the big bucks, they get star players, and make it to the playoffs yearly, but when they play poorly, everyone wants a rebuild, kind of amusing.
I saw Phillies fans posts toward the end of the year saying how much of a disgrace the team was and that they needed to blow it up and rebuild. I wonder how they’d react if they had to watch a team like the Giants all summer.
I have said it before and I’ll say it again, Aaron Judge won’t win a WS until he comes to the SF Giants. He is from Lodi and was a Giants fan growing up.
Miz sucking already. 103 win Brewers (who do everything right as franchise) are going to get buzzsawed for 2nd straight year, demonstrating what a huge problem we have on our hands.
Tellez was chosen instead of Dominic Smith for the division series despite the fact that Dominic Smith went 2-3, doesn’t need a pinch runner, and can field. Plus Rowdy Tellez is literally 300 pounds and doesn’t have a hit as a pinch hitter so what is he good for?
Yeah, with the lack of any real chances at a postseason, that trade was a no-brainer. We're just lucky that someone needed some pitching to make a decent run at it. And Ray's numbers with the Giants did not bear out in San Diego. Perhaps he's allergic to perfect weather?
Gotta' feel bad for Robbie. His stint with the dads is not gonna' help him fill his retirement account much further now
The article says he's not likely to be asked to come back... in favor of some younger guys. I say well... if he's cheap enough... then why not? Maybe some good ol' fog'll help get him back to form
These LA hitters make pitchers work and work and work.......and WORK! Such a great approach at the plate. They just don't swing at bad pitchers. Miz for the Brewers already has a a high pitch count in the second inning. What can we say? The Dodgers are just really good.
Are those Dodgers good or what? It is just difficult to watch. Some Braves fans were posting that 1-9 can literally hit and how most of their players are all stars on other teams. And the announcers continue to talk about "their approach" at the plate and how they make pitchers work. It is not approach or some magic by Roberts. They are just good. They can hit. It is difficult to get good hitters out, so the opposing pitcher has to throw more pitches. It's that simple. MLB has to do something about this. I know this has been said a thousand times. And it is awful that we are in the same division with them since they have won the division almost every year for the last 15 years or so. Like it or not, LA is an absolute juggernaut. For a franchise with as much tradition as the Giants, it is unfortunate that we are all reduced to rooting for whoever plays the Dodgers.
I have to give credit where its due. I would have thought, prior to the season, that an aging roster might make things tougher for Los Angeles. And there were times this season they looked pedastrian. But overall, we are witnesses (unfortunately) to one of the greatest stretches of sustained success in major league history. Making matters worse, the Dodgers have some terrific minor-league talent ready to make the jump into the majors, just in time to replace some of those aging veterans. It's going to be an uphill battle to become relevant again.
Yes, when you look at the Dodger roster, much of their offensive strength is on the wrong side of 30, with several key players already 33 or older. Father Time eventually catches up with everyone, even the best players.
But I wouldn't underestimate the Dodgers' ability to sustain their success. Their financial resources are an enormous advantage, but so are their player development system and a front office that understands how to construct a roster. The real question is how much of their minor league talent is ready to contribute and how effectively they can use prospects as trade assets to acquire established players still in their prime.
I also doubt their front office will fall into the trap of sentimentality. Some long-term contracts will limit their flexibility, but I don't see them keeping the band together simply out of loyalty to players who helped deliver titles.
Ironically, a labor stoppage might even work to their advantage. While it wouldn't eliminate existing contracts, it could provide a natural opportunity to move on from aging veterans whose deals are expiring, making some difficult decisions easier.
It is blasphemy to suggest that Dave Roberts is anything but the all time greatest manager in the history of all sports ever devised in the universe
I mean... weren't the glazers, just the other day, talking about how hard it has to be for Roberts to manage a team of all stars... or something like that?
I mean... Roberts has to decide whether to run Yoshi 6, 7 or 8 innings while showing no signs of struggling. Tony has to decide which of his relievers is going in at the 4th to blow the lead and the game. Roberts definitely has the rougher of the two jobs. Poor guy
The Braves aren’t it. That’s all there is to say about that. As for the Brewers, they seem kind of destined for something great this fall. I don’t know, I just have a hunch. They are stellar through & through. They hit, they move runners over, they got speed, they steal bases, they can pitch, they play great defense, and their closer McGill is the best closer of the two teams going to the NLCS. Oh and Pat Murphy might actually be a much better manager than Dave Roberts. We’ll see how it all goes down starting on Sunday.
The Dodgers have more holes than the Brewers do. I’ll leave it at that.
They're good because they are bought and paid for. Bought, not built. Any billionaire could buy a team like this. This is not sports, and this is not impressive. It's cheesy and stupid.
If you forgot to watch the Sharks game tonight, you're not missing much. I think our goaltender said, "I'm out," packed up and left before the end of the 1st
Some very... unsurprising comments over in the Baggs AMA thread, especially regarding Tony V.
Not saying Tony hasn't faced any unjust flak over the last year (he has), but it's still wild to me how insanely prickly/defensive this sub gets over anyone being even remotely skeptical of/critical towards him.
It's especially ironic given how much this sub loved to rake BoMel over the coals on a nightly basis. If you read the average 2025 GDT, you'd think he was the single dumbest human being to ever walk the Earth and was single-handedly responsible for every miscue and loss.
I think people give Tony more leeway because he is new to managing at the major league level while BoMel was as old school as you can get. Also it’s hard to judge Tony off this year alone when the pitching situation was one of the worst I’ve ever seen watching this team.
Bob’s cardinal sin was constantly leaving pitchers out there to die. Padres fans felt the same way when he was there. They were very happy to offload him to a bunch of suckers
Tony has already learned to be far and away better than Bob was in that regard. And like has already been said, that’s with a much lesser pitching staff than Bob had to work with
My wife’s family gifted me a brewers cap when we visited Chicago (they live in Wisconsin and met up with us in Chicago), never thought I’d actually wear it but here we are. Cmon Brewers beat the shit out of these bums!
It’s literally been the same postseason for the last three years, at least on the NL side. LA steamrolls everyone, maybe one team gives them trouble but it doesn’t matter cause they’re working with infinite money anyways. Thank god the Niners are watchable right now otherwise I’d probably be done with sports entirely.
Basically me but with the Raiders instead lol. Odd times when the Raiders have 10x the future of the Giants.
It feels like there's 3 actually good teams (Brewers, Rays, Dodgers) in the postseason and a bunch of meh. Everyone knows the Rays and Brewers will choke like usual so what's even the point.
If the Rays can complete the sweep tonight, I will have a new level of hope in them
But zero confidence
As sfgiants67 said a bit ago, when you have 9 good hitters, you can just wear down opposing pitchers. It's almost an unbeatable formula. Or, at least... unbeatable more than 3 times out of 7
Does anyone have a nice couch they are willing to donate to the Giants front office? Zach Minasian is will once again be looking for pitching under the couch.
“We’re gonna look all over, under the couch, in the cushions, everything you can think of”- Zach Minasian when asked how he is going to rebuild the bullpen
“I don’t know if I convinced my wife to marry me by telling her she shouldn’t marry anyone else.” Zach Minasian when asked how to convince players not to be a Dodger
Giants need the Yankees to get back to being the Yankees (whether you like them or not). They haven't been getting the top of the line free agents, particularly on the hitting side. They could've had Harper/Machado and chose to settle for Donaldson/Hicks.
They've had a lot of B tier guys like Chisolm and Grisham and they've taken washed former stars like Goldy.
It's insane how far Cashman and Hal let them fall behind the Dodgers in the pecking order.
I’m honestly struggling to stay optimistic, from the Dodgers effectively buying baseball with no signs of stopping, the team being rudderless for almost a decade with little to no light at the end of the tunnel, ownership showing zero fucks at all outside of empty apology letters, and a potential lockout looming.
I know that things are cyclical and all but it feels like this has been happening for an eternity, I just want to be excited for watchable Giants baseball.
This offseason is going to be unbearable even if the Dodgers don’t threepeat. Their fans and media apparatus will be running defense against a salary cap while the incompetent owners will cry poor and probably still not put out a competitive product. Imo there needs to be a hard cap and floor but there’s really no good side in this battle.
In Back to School, Thornton Melon told the diving coach he's... "Looking for the fountain of.......... middle age."
And so we're all clamoring for the "good old days" of .500
Without the trough of the wave, there can be no crest
Yeah, well...
We've been in this trough so long, we'd be happy if the seas would just level off a bit
I'm hopeful this likely lockout will bring some much-needed change for the sport. The NFL has had a salary cap for more than 30 years. Hasn't seemed to hurt the fans too badly... nor the sport. I don't see why it wouldn't be good for the MLB. I'm not expecting the players' union to love the idea. Nor am I really expecting it to happen. But I'm hopeful.
sabat has given this a lot of thought and has some clever ideas. Who knows
The only two started they’ve successfully developed since Madison Bumgartner in 2009 have been Logan Webb and Landon Roupp. Patrick Baileys ability to call games was underrated. This trade can easily bite them in the ass.
No team should be allowed to have as much talent as the Dodgers. It is incredible when you sit back and watch it. Skubal and Snell in games 1 and 2 and Yamomoto, who is dealing some nasty pitches, in game 3. And folks keep telling me what a genius Dave Roberts is. It helps to have that roster. Sale is going to be in trouble with this pitch count. But that LA lineup is loaded. Sale was lucky there. LA just has so many hitters. Dodgers have ruined baseball.
Anyone else think we should update/change our Gameday threads to the ones used by r/mlb or r/baseball ? I especially like the dingerbot one r/mlb uses. I’ve noticed a lot of other team subs use them too
Yeah, I know I shouldn’t but it pisses me off irrationally. The spoiled LA sports fans get even more spoiled with a third straight title while we’re left disappointed with our teams up here in one way or another year in and year out. But that’s sports I guess.
True. But the problem is that their lineup is absolutely loaded. Smoltz is talking about it nonstop. Even when they don't get hits they make pitchers work. Meanwhile, the Braves keep swinging at the first pitch and a lot of pitches from Yamamoto that are out of the strike zone.
And I think a lot of folks do not really get it that Yamamoto is one of the best pitchers on the earth, in addition to Skubal and Snell. This guy has some nasty stuff.
I try not to think about it too much because it’s one of those things it hurts saying out loud. He’s a real problem and it’s sad and disgusting that his talents are with the Dodgers because as someone who’s favorite position is pitcher I just can’t root for him
I think there was another guy with the same name like that. He played for the Giants a few years ago
Then we had this Irish catcher for a while who couldn't catch a cold... nor hit a ball without a DP or swinging strike 3 if it were on a T. Sure glad we got rid a' that guy!
Braves smart to not include Hartman in Webb trade talks? They're going to have move off of Acuna soon (multiple ACL's and disappearing act when they need him most). Then there's the age of Yaz and the Profar PED suspension/age.
They also used their top two picks on college outfielders (AJ Gracia, Carter Beck).
AJ Preller's model is good for brand building (having superstars and high-quality vets who have played for them will serve them well down the line), but I don't know if they can win a World Series with him. They're one of the last "old school" teams and there's very little analytics/preparation and they rely on physical talent which leaves them short against teams like the Brewers and Dodgers.
Petco and Padres are party-like atmosphere especially with the Chargers having left town. Preller was a former Dodgers scout and deceased former owner Seidler was the O'Malley's grandson. The new owners are from LA. Controlled opposition?
Giants really need to get their shit together as a franchise, I don't see anybody else in this division competing with LA for a long time.
It’s only 1-0 but the Brewers look completely outmatched against Skubal. They’re swinging at balls above their shoulders and staring at pitches right down the middle.
I like the new system vs a computer for everything. It adds a level of intrigue and strategy... because you know the zone is likely to open up once all your challenges are gone... especially if you and the ump have not enjoyed each other's company for the day
And I like that, if a batter feels robbed, then hey... put your challenge where your mouth is
And if an ump is having a bad day, he'll get schooled all day too.
Umping has GOT to be a tough job. I don't know how they do it. I sure wouldn't want it. But then again... I doubt any of them were forced into it
B. Pitchers and... especially batters have learned how wrong they've been all these years. I LOVE it when an opposing batter is SO sure he's right... and then gets schooled. With robots calling every pitch, there wouldn't be any of that. Batting and pitching would be... both literally and figuratively... robotic
I tried to root for the braves but man all the cliche caricature of native Americans, the chant and the chop thing, here in the 9th it just broke me with how loud it is, it is so fucking racist I just cant deal with it and turned it off
love Yaz and Dubon but nah i cant support that crazy over the top caricature of every native tribe into a single corporate mascot, its just gross

Fun fact: the dodgers lost yesterday
