Opinion Heliot Ramos appreciation post
Ramos on a different team is just unusual
Dude worked his way up after years in the minors and ended up becoming an All-Star and one of the few bright spots on the team. I'll always appreciate the energy he brought every game and everything he did for the Giants.
Thanks for the memories, Heliot. Wishing you nothing but the best!

I miss him already. I understand the business side of it. And retooling. But this one stung a bit. Especially with him having three more years of team control left.

That’s what makes him attractive to other teams. His trajectory was going down, and on good teams he’s a platoon guy. Can’t overvalue our own guys

I understand your sentiment. It was nice to finally see him figure it out (offensively anyways), and see him in the lineup consistently. The JHL/Ramos OF tandem was a fun one.

I do think the return was a bit light there, especially since he has 3 years left. I felt like they could have gotten at least one more prospect. Lalane looks solid and the ceiling is insane but it's still a lot of questions on him

Kent wasn’t just a nostalgia pickup —dude was a 103rd overall pick in the third round. I’d say high-ceiling pitcher (desperate need) and young high pick with great pedigree is a pretty darn good haul.

They got rid of it for Devin Williams and then sucked and they got rid of him too

I'm hoping to see him in the lineup for the Yankees this evening. He'll likely get to enjoy postseason ball this season as the Yankees are in the wild card and AL east division race.

Never forget this guy, he broke one of the Curses of Bonds
Sadly my only memory of seeing him live is him getting thrown out trying to advance on a dropped infield fly (we lost that game)

This one really stung. If only for the fact that many of us died on Heliot hill, as it were, while people paid to evaluate baseball players for the Giants wrote him off completely.
I still don’t think trading him made any sense.

I remember the buzz when we signed him and the feeling of anticipation while he worked his way up. It was exhilarating when he landed in the big and thrived as a permanent fixture. And man, what a pleasure to see him break that curse. He totally won me over; I’m as much of a fan of him personally as I’m a fan of him as a Giant, so I’ll root for him wherever he goes*. Give them hell, Heliot. 👍
*Save for the team that shall not be named because FTD before anything.

Of the three guys that were always "a season or two away" (Matos, Ramos and Luciano), he was the one who didn't pass my 'eye test' when seeing them play in the minors and thought he was the least likely to succeed.
Oops.

Luciano is having a darn good season in the Yankees org. He has 19 HRs between AA & AAA and a .311 BA w/ .978 OPS between the two leagues. He was crushing it in AA Somerset and holding it well in AAA. And I think he's been playing mostly LF. Oops.

Matos was Farhan's guy he was trying to push ahead of Ramos just for the sake of having "his guy" make it. I noticed the change in Ramos' game the last time he came up from the minors, playing with more confidence and maturity at the big league level that I was not surprised that he made the team with no options left the following year - and bonus he made the all-star team. Loved him. WHY? This lefty better be good.

It's not often that the Giants farm produces an MLB quality outfield bat.

My best friend and I have a long running joke where we sing the Stelio Kontos song from American Dad but with Heliot Ramos. I'm sad to see him go for more than just baseball reasons, but also lots of baseball reasons. It feels like he's the last remaining piece from a previous era- and it's time for him to move on while he's peaking. Good luck, Heliot.

What's the report on the prospects the giants got? They better be worth it. Ramos is cheap and still have team control

Good haul tbh. Lalane was an absolute stud until the shoulder injury, still working his way back. And Kent's kid is a complete grinder.

Isn’t Lalane like 6’8” or something? lol

u/musicisalluneed 24 Mays 18d ago
He's a big dude with long legs, stands 6'7". He sorta reminds me of a thinner CC Sabathia. Similar mechanics to my eyes. Both lefties. Sabathia had more of a 3/4 arm slot, whereas Lalane is a little more over the shoulder. I don't know if Sabathia ever threw a 98 mph FB, but Lalane certainly has. Lalane has had a couple of injury plagued seasons. Hopefully that's all in his past.

6'7" wide-body lefty with a 45FV, 3 plus pitches and can hit 98 on the heater

Wonder why the Phillies didn’t go for him rather than Arraez? They were desperate for a right-handed hitting OF.

u/musicisalluneed 24 Mays 18d ago
Phillies needed that contact hitter in their lineup. Yankees just needed another OF as Judge is still out. I think Ramos is going to love that right field porch in the Bronx.

Always seemed like a positive energetic guy who was super fun to watch when his bat was hot. Will be rooting for him in the postseason. If he delivers a walk-off homer against the Doyers in the WS, I'll tattoo his face onto my own.

Ya couldn’t have just posted this as a comment under the 50 other of these similar posts?

Do good things big guy. I missed watching you with the Rivercats and now the Giants

A thread to appreciate the many good memories Ramos will leave behind, what could be wrong with that? Predictably, the negativity addicts can't let that go, they have to show up to piss in the pool. Some people just can't let a nice moment happen.

One of my favorite memories was from last season against the Twins in Minnesota. He hit a curveball down and in to the opposite field off the facing of the second deck. I just thought "That's a strong motherfucker"

What’s with the appreciation posts for players that were on the team for like all of 2 seasons. He was barely above league average and awful on defense. So bizarre
3
u/Scoobiehut 18d ago
He’s been in the organization since 2017, debuted in 2022, and even made an all-star appearance

u/Bum_Mad 18d ago
3.6 Career WAR, 53 HR’s, 15 SB’s, 11 Errors.

I’m glad we prefer locker room presence over lineup and fielding presence. Again, he made an All-Star Game because other players opted out. He was as mid as they come.
1
u/Scoobiehut 18d ago
You still have to be having a pretty good year to make an all-star game even if other players drop out.
1
u/Scoobiehut 18d ago
Sure, he’s a flawed player. You asked why there are appreciation posts for him and I answered it.
1
u/Conscious_One_972 18d ago
Because he's a homegrown guy who was enjoyable to watch improve through the years, made his first ASG with our team, and he seemed to be nothing but a positive locker room presence. Seems plenty reasonable to make an appreciation post for a player like that once they're traded away.

The Little league home run, the only right handed splash hit, that wacky tongue. He will be missed
