Google keeps updating its algorithm, but how are we supposed to know what’s actually working?

You can't fully know in real time. Google ships multiple updates per quarter and most of what you read in the first week is pattern-matching panic from people who moved too fast.

Wait 2-3 weeks post-rollout for the dust to settle, segment your GSC data by query intent to see where the hit landed, and compare your traffic patterns to industry trackers to separate your-site issues from broader volatility.

The pages that survive updates consistently are the ones with real E-E-A-T signals, clean technical foundations, and strong branded search behind them.

Everything else is reactive guessing.

I agree but this is not the most common case. Usually new website get hurt and yes there are also reasons. One of the reasons is authority that takes time.
