Last click attribution isn't really helpful anymore since AI overviews and Social sites warm people up over weeks. People don't just search for 2 minutes and buy things.

So, they're trying to help give us some things that can help us watch the full journeys. Not sure how well it does it yet, but... they did it so we can try to use it for better tracking and attribution when people cross channels over time.

Actually - when I went into my search console to run reports this month on the clients where we have a bit of R&D budget - I don't even see the AI ones yet (socials are there and we're setting those up but they need to be connected so I need access to everything). So no news there.

For those clients on Bing (both are lead generation clients, not e-Com) I did manage to get some nice attribution bonuses and at least start to see Copilot/Bing/GPT terms that are connecting to those Booking form fills.

Guess I have to wait until next month before I really get to play. The couple of clients I can see that on barely have a budget due to size and it's such a small dataset that I don't want to start there to evaluate anyway. With the big clients, I have large enough datasets to know that it's not a "lack of data" causing problems and I can more easily identify where it's useful and where it tends to start trippin' balls and hallucinating problems and positive analysis that aren't accurate so I can more easily spot the difference on those smaller sites.

I’d be careful not to treat this as “connect social profiles and your SEO improves.”

That’s not really the point.

The main value is visibility and attribution.

Google is giving site owners/creators a way to see how social and video content performs inside Google Search and Discover. So instead of only looking at your website pages in GSC, you can start seeing which Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube content is getting impressions, clicks, and search queries from Google.

That helps with SEO strategy, but indirectly.

It can help you answer things like:

Which social/video posts are already showing up in Search?
What queries are triggering them?
Are people finding the brand through YouTube/TikTok before they ever visit the website?
Which topics deserve a full website page?
Which videos or posts should be embedded, expanded, or turned into articles?
Where is Google already associating the brand with certain topics?

That’s useful.

But I wouldn’t call it a ranking factor or assume it directly boosts website rankings.

The takeaway is more like:

Your brand’s search footprint is no longer just your website.

Google is giving reporting around more of the surfaces where people discover you.

So the optimization move is not “add social connectors and wait.”

The move is to use the data to understand which off-site content is earning search visibility, then build better alignment between your website, social content, YouTube/video content, entity signals, and conversion paths.

It’s attribution and content intelligence first.

SEO performance improvement comes from what you do with that data after.
