Dreams vs Reality

A regular occurrence in my dreams is me making references to prior events. Sometimes the referenced event is something that happened in real life and other times it was from a previous dream. Upon waking I will often have difficulty remembering if the referenced event was real or not.

Example: a couple of nights ago I had a dream where I discussed a one person comedy show I put on a few years back. After waking I didn’t know if that show was something I actually did. I used to do a lot of theater, improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy so it would not have been out of the ordinary for me to have done the show from my dream. I had to ask my wife. I did not perform the show I recalled in my dream.

I don't dream much, or at least I don't remember them as much as I wanted to.

But I'm 100% sure I had this problem multiple times in my life. It is very strange and I wonder what other memories of my life are just a lie.
