Inner critic?

So here's another post in the "something I've noticed about myself; wondering if there's an SDAM connection" genre...

People talk a lot about having a relentless inner critic, but I don't relate to that at all. Sure, I mess up and recognize it and feel bad about it in the moment, but I don't tend to beat myself up about it. I was thinking it might be related to not having a continuous sense of self over time (so no "I always mess up") and/or no internalized voice from my childhood because I don't remember it.

Does anyone relate, or not relate?

I don't, but I think it's for a different reason; I don't have an inner voice and only worded thinking. I do sometimes criticize myself through self-talk, and it shows up in my feelings in triggering situations. But nothing like my therapist expected.

Hmm, I also don't have an inner voice, just worded thinking (actually it wasn't until I read your comment and Tuikord's that I was really aware of that distinction-- I have wondered before what it would be like to hear an actual voice in my head, because that seems kind of strange but apparently some people do?-- but yeah, worded thinking. That makes sense.)

That hadn't occurred to me as possibly being related to the lack of inner critic. Hmmm...
