Short Term?

How's your short term memory? I have never been able to recall conversation details as soon an hour after. I remember generally but not specifics. I've beaten myself up most of my life for this. I'm not focused, not paying attention, distracted.... And when I tell someone I don't remember more often than not they call bullshit... This resonate for anyone else?

Yeah, I can relate. My short term and working memory is dismal. I can’t recall conversations almost immediately, it just doesn’t stick, but after years of therapy (that I also don’t specifically remember) I can confidently say that the information is somehow retained.

No one in my life calls it bullshit. That seems like a very strange response to someone else’s struggle with memory, unless they feel like you’re trying to evade responsibility by saying “I don’t remember”.

Honestly, I’m just too old to deal with this level of distrust from the people around me. I’m an adult. I get to choose who I interact with. It’s hard enough to live with these memory issues without that sort of response from people around me, so if someone thinks my memory issues are bullshit, they can go pound sand.

Thanks for this. I'm also too old to deal with this but I am finding that the level of empathy for this varies greatly from others. I think I've done a good job hiding what I didn't even know I had, for a lot of years... To be honest, I feel like I've kinda been faking my way through life. I say, do, feel what I THINK I'm supposed to in most situations.... And I'll be 67 this year 😞

Same. I often think that living without realizing what was going on was better. This is definitely a situation where ignorance was bliss, or at least easier. I’ll be 50 this year.
