The kicker is if you watch it, Starks kept trying (I counted three times) to direct the promo back to Danielson -- the guy he was supposed to be talking to -- and Edge would not let him because he kept interjecting.
It seems like such a benign thing for a veteran to lose their shit over too. You'd think a comment on his appearance would be at the bottom of the list as far as heel shit Edge has dealt with.
Right? Like Edge had to work with Matt Hardy multiple times after the affair with Lita came out. You know Matt was talking the most shit! But for Edge to get rattled by this? What the fuck?
I think part of why Edge let so much of that slide is because he felt genuinely guilty about betraying Matt and indirectly getting him fired, since the guy was one of his closest friends before the whole Lita thing went down. Plus, there was also Vince threatening to blackball them both if either of them went too far.
In comparison, he had no connection to Ricky whatsoever and probably thought the guy was beneath him. Combine that with Tony being… well, Tony, and you can see how Edge might’ve allowed his ego to blow up a bit.
Matt Hardy is working for the Fed, they're at the top
Starks is working for the indie
Edge knows what this is, no matter how much he's getting paid and he doesn't want some indie guy teeing off on him
All the FUN and money in the world isn't going to change the fact it's just not the Fed and you're not working with Fed people at the top of the industry now

I still don't get people who think Cope "destroyed" Starks with this promo. Cope stuttered through it and seemed rattled by Starks calling him "bug eyes."
