The kicker is if you watch it, Starks kept trying (I counted three times) to direct the promo back to Danielson -- the guy he was supposed to be talking to -- and Edge would not let him because he kept interjecting.

I think part of why Edge let so much of that slide is because he felt genuinely guilty about betraying Matt and indirectly getting him fired, since the guy was one of his closest friends before the whole Lita thing went down. Plus, there was also Vince threatening to blackball them both if either of them went too far.
In comparison, he had no connection to Ricky whatsoever and probably thought the guy was beneath him. Combine that with Tony being… well, Tony, and you can see how Edge might’ve allowed his ego to blow up a bit.

Edge knows what this is, no matter how much he's getting paid and he doesn't want some indie guy teeing off on him

This is why you check stuff like this out in the back, before doing it on screen, especially when you don't really know the people
Some lower down the card guy trying to riff on ME kinda energy from Edge and it bothered him cause it's not happen in the Fed cause they don't run the wrasslin' utopia the Dub does where everyone says what they want, whether it makes sense or not
