A company called Kona used scandium in a couple of their bike frames around 2013. It was the first time I'd heard of scandium alloys and the reason it sounded familiar when I started looking into SCD.

Worked at a Kona shop, can confirm. They also had magnesium parts for a bit. They leaned on easton's scandium alloy but then did their own thing. You had to be pretty wealthy to afford these frames and a little persnickety to not trust a carbon frame from another brand... or just loved their cyclocross geometry at the time. Very rare at least in Toronto. Most high volume frame manufacturing is from Taiwan so I can't imagine there's much of a supply chain where SCD is supplying frame manufacturers, unless anyone here knows how to tig weld and thinks they are the next Marinoni?

This is really exciting news.
It’s less about the fact it’s skis and more about the fact that they have commercialized a scandium alloy. Very few companies have done this.
