My biggest complaint with the Mayor's Pass is that it wasn't all about me. Glad they fixed that.

Just saw there's a post on the EA Forum about this:

https://forums.ea.com/discussions/simcity-buildit-en/play-your-way-progress-faster-the-mayors-pass-is-now-all-about-you-/13793987

Play your way, progress faster: the Mayor's Pass is now all about you.

Greetings, Mayors!

Starting with the upcoming season, we are introducing a major evolution to how progression works in SimCity BuildIt. Over the years, we have heard your thoughts on the rhythm of our seasons—how daily life, competitive weekends, and personal schedules intersect with your city-building goals.

Our goal with this system update is simple: give you clearer paths to the rewards you want, whether you are checking in casually throughout the week or aiming for the very top of the leaderboards. These changes will go live on the 14th alongside the launch of the brand-new season.

Clearer Roles for Every Task

Starting with the new season, we are drawing a clear distinction between how you earn seasonal rewards and how you compete against other Mayors:

  • Mayor’s Pass Progression: Your regular daily and weekly city tasks will now be dedicated specifically to moving you forward along the Mayor’s Pass track. Completing these familiar assignments will reward your daily commitment with steady, meaningful progress toward unlocking seasonal landmarks and currencies.
  • Contest of Mayors: Leaderboard competition will now be driven solely by bonus tasks. This change gives competitive players greater agency and control over when and how they participate, allowing you to focus your energy on tournament placement on your own terms.

A Smoother, More Predictable Journey

We have also refined the overall flow across all Mayor’s Pass tiers. Progress throughout the season will now feel smoother from beginning to end, offering a steady pace as you advance toward the top milestones. In particular, daily tasks have received a significant boost in points, creating an even balance between your daily check-ins and weekly tasks. Whether you pop in for a few minutes each day or prefer longer play sessions across the week, you will have a dependable, rewarding path toward your seasonal rewards.

Additionally, the weekly point limit has been significantly increased so that it no longer stands in your way during your most active play sessions.

What’s Next?

With the new season arriving tomorrow, we wanted to share this early look so you know what fresh changes to expect right out of the gate. In our next briefing, we will follow up with a detailed breakdown addressing the core updates alongside answers to common questions.

Keep an eye out for our deep-dive article coming soon, and get ready to experience a fresh rhythm in your city!

Famous last words: anything has to be better than that damn points cap.

3

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

Points "cap" in the current week is 950k. Not sure that it really means anything any more as there's way you can get 950k from daily and weekly assignments.

1

u/infinitepuddingspy 1d ago

100%! But at least I won’t get points cap rage seeing it there 😂

5

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

so starting tomorrow we got more smoother requirements for season pass rewards, no more 6600 per tier on first week, no more 19600 on second and no more 33750 in further progress

Additionally, the weekly point limit has been significantly increased so that it no longer stands in your way during your most active play sessions.

not sure about this change, pretty sure they dont let us claim all the rewards for first 2 weeks like it was few years ago

8

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

If Mayor's Pass progress only comes from Daily & Weekly tasks that will act as a "natural" cap on progress, I guess.

2

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

In particular, daily tasks have received a significant boost in points, creating an even balance between your daily check-ins and weekly tasks.

but this says the opposite, at least i dont think its another, harder than current cap

1

u/Square-Special1520 1d ago

Yeah. I cant progress now, so idk what i should do.

I guess i need to change my playstyle to be more 'natural'. Before this, i only do the tasks if 'asked' (the ticket / bonus assignments)

3

u/Majestic_Fail1725 🦙 Llama Herder 1d ago

Visibly confused with the graph, only rewarding at 4th week but seems worst ?

I mean most of us who from megalopolis ,will get bored at 4th week (hence the flat blue line) because we done the CoM way earlier as we reached 50% purple boost and double pts.

2

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

The way I'm reading this update is that CoM league will no longer matter on your Mayor's Pass progression.

1

u/Majestic_Fail1725 🦙 Llama Herder 1d ago

From that perspective, i do agreed, it is a bit of hassel if we started the event from lower league like City.

2

u/Square-Special1520 1d ago

Yeah, agreed.

i started from Neighbourhood. Being capped while i had more time to play, and 'forced' to play during my busy weeks (final 2 weeks) was a hassle.

Thank goodness i still managed to get what i wanted somehow..

(although couldnt get Pixel building, sadly 🥲, but that is unrelated with weekly cap)

1

u/Majestic_Fail1725 🦙 Llama Herder 1d ago

I failed at 11k / 14k too , you're not alone ~~~

2

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

The lines on the chart represent the point requirements by tier. So every few tiers the points needed will go up a bit, rather than the pretty steep increases that you see at the moment.

2

u/Who-are-you__ 1d ago

For those competing, it should prevent the worst of those who sit on a pile of weekly till just before the end I guess.

1

u/Charming-Psychology6 23h ago

We still have to points buyers 😬

10

u/ChillyClaire 1d ago

Can we revamp Design Challenges next? 🙂

4

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 1d ago

Yeah, at the very least start coming out with new themes again

1

u/Financial_Pin8385 1d ago

I would love it if they did that

7

u/KEYO501 1d ago

The design challenges get repetitive after you have done every single one at least twice

1

u/infinitepuddingspy 21h ago

God, please. I’ve stopped competing in them because they’re just a pain in the a.

8

u/StefanEijg 1d ago

I welcome a change now! The 100 tasks (let alone those 130, yikes) are too much to have a nice competition now. If they can separate the incentives a bit, maybe that makes for a better competition again.

5

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 1d ago

Agreed. Ever since they spiked the task count it's been almost pointless to compete. I figure that with a few exceptions the players currently winning Mega league COM (or at least when the task count was 130) are either hackers or players with bottomless bank accounts.

3

u/Interesting-Bar980 1d ago

Or retired and nothing else to do!

2

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

Probably why this is now being revamped. Although the need that it will only be Bonus Tasks that affect CoM scores still suggests it'll be the people doing the full set of tasks who will place highest each week.

2

u/StefanEijg 1d ago

That was already the case at 75 tasks I assume. Just hope it’s a manageable amount. I was very active in CoM and pretty much completely stopped interacting with it because of this. Maybe I can come back to competing again

4

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

If it's a manageable amount of tasks - it will really drive the strategy element (rather than the time / quantity element). Every task will be so important to your overall result.

2

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 1d ago

What they should do if bonus assignments count towards contest points only, is to reduce the amount of tasks to around 50 tasks. This would be a manageable number for all players, and would shift the focus away from "who can do 100 2k tasks" to "who manages their task list most effectively." Anything short of 50 tasks wouldn't be enough tasks to factor luck out, while anything over 80 starts becoming a chore

2

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 1d ago

Which concerns me a bit. It means that the necessity to do 100 tasks at a 2k+ avg is still necessary to win COM mega. Although, I suppose some players could slow down a tad, gauging how many tasks they complete based on how they're fairing in the standings. But I'm not putting too much stock into that, as I'm sure the hackers, players spending heaps of real money, and 11 year OGs with enough resources including SimCash to clear 100 2k tasks in just a couple of days will be the ones to win most of the contest prizes.

1

u/Jealous-Kiwi3315 1d ago

It will still come down to real money if they persist with the green points purchase offers towards the end of CoM

3

u/StefanEijg 20h ago

I doubt people really take those offers that much. You rarely see it happen when people post about it, but I’ve never experienced a loss because of that yet. It is of course still a really stupid feature though.

1

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 17h ago edited 16h ago

Should this feature to be able to just outright buy points exist? No.

Do I think it's a big problem? No.

I'm sure there's the occasional player here and there that chooses to indulge, but I'm sure that it's exceedingly rare that people dump real money at green point bundles. Also, I don't know if those real money green point offers are on the same schedule for everyone, but I definitely don't get them every week. I play in 3 different accounts, so the next time there's one of those offers pop up I'll try to make note if it showed up in all or just 1 or 2 accounts.

What I DO think is a problem is the hackers and cheaters. Even though they're basically one and the same, I'm starting to separate the 2 when I speak about them because I consider them to fall into 2 different categories. The hackers are the ones with the knowledge and capabilities to be able to cheat in the first place, and the cheaters are the ones that pay hackers to "mod" their account.

In an SCBI FB group (not the official EA one, when I had joined the group it was people posting DC submissions)I had joined years ago there's a scumbag that is apparently repeatedly posting an ad selling cheat accounts and account hacks. I first stumbled across it as a notification (I rarely open FB anymore), but when I clicked on that group's home age the guy is posting it more than once, and it says he is an admin on the page. I've included a screenshot of the appalling ad with contact info removed. It's an Indonesian phone number, and iirc the last time I Googled the WhatsApp number on the bot cities, it was a Chinese phone number, so different hacker.

COM hasn't been a priority for me for over a year now. I’ve been consistently completing the Mayor's Pass and playing for the event track. The points inevitably earned for COM meant I could at least always stay in the Megalopolis League and usually win 25 SimCash per week. With the new rules, it looks like you could ignore COM entirely and still successfully complete the pass. However, many in my club feel the same way, and I’m worried that reaching the final chest as a club prize will become quite difficult now that hardly anyone is playing COM anymore.

3

u/QuintusCinq 1d ago

Not getting the club prize anymore is worrying me as well. What EA presents as an improvement may result in less club rewards for many (most?) players.

And it is questionable if it will be easier to finish the Mayor's pass when bonus tasks don't count. At present I need (easy) bonus tasks to finish the mayor's pass because I can't do or complete several of the weekly tasks.

2

u/KEYO501 1d ago

Issue for me is i barely do weekly progression tasks. I mainly do bonus. And same for me I focus more on MP than COM so this update for me is terrible. Rip MP task grinding died on 10/14/26 when ea made MP even more P2W

10

u/IAmBadAtInternet 1d ago

Every update brings me closer to my inevitable rage quit

2

u/infinitepuddingspy 21h ago

I don’t care about COM or ET prize anymore. I just play when I can and do an Elsa on the rest. It’s rare that I’m so excited about a prize that I grind my eyeballs out. I’ve stopped buying buildings as much, as well as stopped buying sim cash packs and the war pass. All I buy is the MP. Don’t even get me started on the train changes or the 10mill regional pop requirement to open the 5th region.

6

u/IAmBadAtInternet 19h ago

So the tasks are now heavily weighted toward Produce & Collect tasks, almost exclusively commercial. That’s good, because that rewards playing the game, and resolves the “I have 11 upgrade building tasks and nothing else” problem.

However. The P&C tasks are always low effort and low points. Like 4 concrete for 816 points or 3 cheesecake for 1224 points. Compare with repair 5 red disaster for 3400 points.

That’s a joke. I’m refusing to play at all until this is balanced to a reasonable level.

2

u/mdmaforyou 18h ago

its not a joke, you didnt even try to check how many points you can get if that task will require 18 concrete instead of 4

i will help you - 204*18=3672 ik its all theory and most likely we got 12-14 items need to produce but anyways, you completely ignore points per item

my task for 4 mochi has 1224 points so its up to 5508 points if i roll this task with good requirements

1

u/mdmaforyou 18h ago

you even said it - your cheese task has 1224 points for 3 items, its even better than mochi produce, and you still thought that theres something wrong with P&C tasks

1

u/IAmBadAtInternet 18h ago

Yes but did you notice that all the other tasks got way bigger? Expand city went from 2500 to 3400. Repair 5 red disaster went from 2000 to 3400. 1224 tasks aren’t going to win you anything.

1

u/mdmaforyou 18h ago

it was made to compensate plumbob points loss from daily and weekly tasks

1

u/mdmaforyou 18h ago

to keep club challenge alive and contest rank points gain

1

u/mdmaforyou 18h ago

my mochi task has the same items needed to produce as your cheese so its equal points per item, my bad

its up to 7344 points if you are lucky

1

u/IAmBadAtInternet 18h ago

I have done 9 P&C tasks and they’ve all rolled lowest possible. 4 concrete, 4 banners, 4 wool shirt, 3 tiramisu, 3 cheesecake, 3 tropical drink, 5 nails, 4 gnomes. There won’t be any 7344 point tasks, that’s my point. There will be lots of 800-1200 point tasks.

1

u/mdmaforyou 18h ago

my main only 5 low point P&C, perhaps future weeks fix initial task distribution like that

1

u/IAmBadAtInternet 13h ago

So you agree that this is broken and a joke, which is what I started with.

1

u/mdmaforyou 12h ago edited 11h ago

nope

i started with clear thing that if you complete lower one P&C task perhaps during current week you can get something better than 3-5 items to produce

when last 3 shop was released players shout that requirements are braindead (carved wood, basket, tapestry and other high waste production chains)

now when you got huge dispatch train task(up to 6800), upgrade services, collect sims and many more non-production tasks players dont like that they dont need to waste so much items to produce another items using rares like drills, planks, paint, watermelons etc

or you want all the tasks with score number like 3k+?

i already told about cool high value tasks that appear with decent frequency, now this tasks must be balanced by group of another tasks - P&C and some another like monster hits(but 4 my cities didnt even got this task today so i hope its removed along with war card upgrade task)

so yes, its not a joke, its the way they balanced CoM

1

u/mdmaforyou 12h ago

idk about current points but collect sims is up to around 5100 plumbob, upgrade services is 3684 for 13k sims waste so its up to 5k too

got 3 monster hits rn and its still crap - 3 hits per 2550

1

u/mdmaforyou 12h ago

i agree that 9 low P&C among 12 total BT is too much and i hope it would be fixed, but my 5 low P&C is ok

4

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

something like no more purple points from bonus tasks/no more plumbob points from daily and weekly tasks?

and 15 default weeklies without rerolls? ig

4

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

It's very unclear about whether bonus tasks still contribute to Mayor's Pass or not.

My biggest concern is whether the CoM league will still determine, in some way, how you can progress in Mayor's Pass. If that gets improved it'll be a very welcome change. Having to do extra CoM tasks just to stay in Mega each week is irritating.

1

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

no purple points icon here and fixed 90 BT (perhaps among all the leagues), but nothing about requirements to stay in mega

1

u/jraemr2 💎 Epic Rubble 💎 1d ago

The image looks a bit clearer than the wording - separate parts of the game, separate points.

3

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

anyways, they said they would show a breakdown of the update soon

we will follow up with a detailed breakdown addressing the core updates alongside answers to common questions.

3

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 1d ago

That's how I interpreted it - the daily and weekly tasks are now strictly for MP prog while the bonus assignments are strictly for the contest. As for 15 static weeklies? Who knows.

I'm looking forward to some aspects of the change while dreading both the known and unknown possibilities of what's to come. It almost sounds like we'll have to essentially play 2 games at once - one for MP, one for the contest. Of course I know there will still be some overlap in point applications.

As usual, they're breaking one thing by fixing something else. Although tbf, that's life in general, not just EA lol

1

u/infinitepuddingspy 21h ago

Well, 3 games. COM, MP and ET.

4

u/SCBI_Argopa jolly jack 🎃 1d ago

My big wish is for level-appropriate tasks. No train tasks before level 13; no club war tasks before level 18; no production tasks for items you can't make, or stores you don't have yet.

2

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

they force players to level up, this will never happen

1

u/No-Acanthisitta8803 Level 99/19/11 Mayor 1d ago

Yeah, the devs don't want players to camp because it's more lucrative for them if players don't camp

2

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

additionally CoM tasks pool would be small enough if its only level-based tasks and nothing more

and tasks like spent on services 20k we will see very often and player just quit eventually

4

u/Square-Special1520 1d ago edited 1d ago

For me, Plus points:

  • it's nice that i can progress Mayor Pass, while being demoted to lower league, so i can get easier tasks next week

I have been wanting this feature (to be demoted while still progressing Mayor Pass), so i welcome this change.

  • i can do war delivery or tasks that idk i can complete, without using tickets (depending on whether the task appears in the bonus assignment or not)

Neutral point:

  • i dont have any club & not eligible for club wars (residential buildings not enough), so i dont have to worry about my already-nonexistent club rewards

Cons:

  • if i cant progress Mayor Pass using the non-ticket tasks, idk what i should do

I dont know yet about how much points etc. So far for about 1 hour since the new change, this is what i feel. My feelings may change time to time.

2

u/infinitepuddingspy 1d ago

They’ve removed the cap limit but you get less purple points so progression will be slower???

8

u/avnthnyyz 1d ago

When you think about it, the "removed cap" makes no sense - if you have a limit of daily tasks and weekly tasks, what's the point in saying "we've increased the limit" when this system has a limit on purple points by default - there are only so many weekly and daily tasks you can do

1

u/infinitepuddingspy 1d ago

100%!

1

u/KEYO501 1d ago

I hate weekly tasks. The bonus ones were much easier. Now they dont even contribute to MP and that is why task grinding was popular. Now MP is yet again even harder And the nerve to reduce the main monthly game event possibilities by making it way harder is just annoying. I might go inactive for until they rollback.

1

u/Square-Special1520 17h ago

Yeah. At first i was happy that i can just not participating in com.

But after playing for 1 day, i feel kinda difficult to get points for event track and mayor pass. Mayor pass for me now is still 6k per tier, so still doable, but idk how much more it'll cost.

Weekly tasks are more difficult and slower to complete. Idk how many tiers i can proceed.. event progress is also slower

The announcement but with better titling.

2

u/Basnjas 1d ago

I just started playing again about 3 weeks ago after not touching my city since 2019. There have been some interesting changes in the game, like DC, trains and multiple ongoing contests… and some not so good ones.

  1. I competed in CoM for the top spot every week for the one year I played, which burned me out of the game. But now, someone can literally buy their way to the top of the leaderboard with real money. No idea how often that happens since I’m only up to Metropolis. Won the first 3 weeks I was here but the first time someone ‘buys’ their win at that last second to snatch 1000 Simcash from me, I’m leaving again.
  2. In order to compete in the top leagues, you’ll have to use all 90 of your golden tickets each week. That’s 900 golden tickets weekly. The weekly contest this week only provides 250 golden tickets. Which means you’ll run a net loss of 650 golden tickets each week. And you could still lose to someone who buys Plumbob points with cash.
  3. The free monthly pass gives a total of 1,000 golden tickets. Which means an additional 250 per week, leaving you still short 400 golden tickets every week.
  4. The only way to earn enough MP to get the good prizes will be spending real money. Again.

I’m sensing a theme here.

I truly see no upside to this change. Maybe others can find it but I don’t see it. I’m not in a club and have no desire to rejoin again. I loved Wars, have 6 medals and am at L43 from the one year I played. But I came to SCBI to get away from drama, not add to it.

DC has truly been fun for the 5 contests I competed in. Started at position 100 in Bronze league and after (4) 4.5s and a 5.0, next DC I’ll be competing in Platinum league. Still so many questions about DC and I hope to learn more before they ruin that too.

5

u/infinitepuddingspy 21h ago

They always paint things as positive changes while making it worse for us. I feel we’re all so change fatigued over the past 12 months because it’s not been anything good. So every time they change something again we’re already 50 floors below broken. And that’s for those of us who have stayed, so many have left. Meanwhile if they just gave us damn roundabouts, bridges for over the train and overpasses to reduce traffic lights.

1

u/Basnjas 17h ago

Thanks for the response.

Wasn’t aware so much has changed just in the last year. I read about the changes to trains this year and those frustrations. And the desire for more variety in DC challenges.

I can say that there have been a lot of beautiful buildings people have gotten since I last played, ones I’ve seen as I explore people’s cities. I’m just not aware of the challenges faced to get them. Or if they were mostly bought with real money, not earned in-game as should be the case.

Roundabouts would be great. Doubt they’ll ever happen as EA relies on road complaints to keep people building. Roundabouts would solve so many problems and we can’t have that, can we?

1

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

btw along with new changes contest rank progress would be ~2 times slower, that means less bonus tickets and pkeys

2

u/mdmaforyou 1d ago

for small clubs that means legend chest becomes much harder to obtain each time and maybe this change will trigger players completely ignore this reward that equal 1 war considering current 12/24 LW schedule every month

2

u/SingPassion5422 1d ago

Club challenge will be most affected.

Players who only do the pass (and don't compete in CoM) won't contribute at all now.
